Pick Your Poison, Thursday

Margo had exhausted every last portal magic book she could find on this stupid island, same for the teleporting. That left her no option besides moving on to the weirder shit.

“Wait, bees are horomancers? You’re shitting me.”

If anyone needed her, she was behind the counter reading some really fucking weird bullshit about magical animals.

Hannibal dropped by around lunch time with an insulated bag over his shoulder, smiling as he saw Margo. "Good afternoon, your majesty. I come bearing gifts."

"Pleased to hear it." Hannibal bowed and came in, gesturing from his bag to the counter. "May I?"

"Well, I certainly hope it meets with your approval."

Hannibal pulled out a number of dishes, opening and setting them down. "Butternut squash bruschetta with pomegranate, French onion and bleu cheese tart, brie and prosciutto shortbread, five-spice duck and shiitake pies, and apple pithiviers."

He finished with a set of silverware, then brought out a bottle wrapped in quilted fabric and a glass. "And mulled wine, of course."

And there was certainly enough of everything to take home to Eliot, too.

Hannibal smiled and set the wine down. "Consider it an audition. I was thinking of having Thanksgiving dinner at my house, and I would appreciate some help in planning and decorating, if you would be interested. If not, consider this a hopefully adequate tribute to your majesty."

"I hadn't decided yet," Hannibal answered. "I generally try not to go too ridiculously American, given that I'm an immigrant, my husband was British, and half the people here aren't even from the planet. An autumn theme is good. Previously, I've used foliage, fabric, and bones as centerpieces. But then again, I don't have magic."

Hannibal gave a nod in acknowledgement. "I prefer to think of it as honoring the origins of one's food, but yes. Still, I find cornucopias a bit overdone."

"That would be perfect," Hannibal answered. "You're not allergic to cats, I hope?"

"There are flamingos on the lawn." Hannibal looked pained. They were glittery, Margo! "Live ones. Best to leave them alone; as tacky as they may be, they do act as guards. And if you can feel magic, there is a spell on the house to prevent harm to anyone inside it." He thought. "Those should be the only relevant issues. And it's the house on Phoenix Place."

"So far the only issues with the spell have been when the entire house gets dropped into a hole or set on fire." Hannibal sighed.

"The flamingos can be bribed to stay under the porch on the ground level, if necessary," he added. "Usually."
