Luke's Diner, Saturday

[what_the_shock]

When Miguel came in today, the staff were crouched around a group of what looked like unlabeled beer bottles, reading instructions and arguing.

He waited for a moment before pointing out, "Do we even have a liquor license?"

That got him a withering look from the busboy. "It's root beer."

"...Right. I'll just be over here making coffee."

"Oh you are speaking my language!" Dwight said with a grin as he walked in and sat at the bar. "Bison burgers? Hell yeah, set me up!"

Was Dwight hungry? Of course he was. He was always hungry... but after the busy morning in the shop and all, burgers sounded better than ever.

Miguel waved at him and headed over. "Cheese? Anything else? And how do you want it done?"

"Cheese and whatever else comes with it, and medium" Dwight confirmed with a nod.

"How's things going?" he called out after Miguel, casting a glance at the staff who were still totally enthralled with... whatever it was they were doing.

"Not bad." Miguel shrugged and put in his order, knocking on the counter to get the cook's attention. "How's the bed coming?"

"Making progress. If all goes well and I can get the time I have planned to work on it, should be ready for ya in a couple days."

[what_the_shock]

Miguel shrugged. "If nothing's happened so far this weekend, you're probably safe."

[alwaysonguard]

"Eh good point. The crazy does seem to like the weekends" Dwight agreed. Silently he was thinking that the island was probably saving up some special insanity for the upcoming holidays. But Dwight wasn't about to voice that thought out loud.

And he would be absolutely right both to think that and to not say anything.

"If it hasn't started yet, it probably won't. Or it'll be minor." Miguel shrugged. "Unless you turn into a plant or something."

[alwaysonguard]

"Oh thanks, now YOU go a jinx me!" Dwight said with a laugh. He fell silent for a moment and then shook his head. "Hopefully nothing like that happens because I...I may be a bit MIA off and on here for the next month or so."

"Things to do back home?" Miguel guessed.

[alwaysonguard]

"More like things to try and avoid" Dwight said simply. "Holidays and I don't get along very well these days since.... I don't have a lot of reason to do much since it's just me now. So debating heading out for at least a bit. Not sure Haven is in the plans but a change of scenery might be good."

[what_the_shock]

"Right." Miguel squinted at him. "So you're going to leave a place you've got friends and go somewhere else that'll probably also be overloaded with holiday things and you'll be even more alone, and that'll help?"

[alwaysonguard]

"Well, I'm not sure I'm gonna be the best company. Thought it might be best to head out... Lizzie and I usually traveled for the holidays. Now that it's just me... just not sure what to do with myself. Don't want to drag anyone else down and...."

Dwight's voice trailed off as he met Miguel's gaze and sighed. He knew how stupid it was, it sound even more ridiculous when he said it out loud. But it was what it was. Dwight looked at Miguel and just gave a weak shrug.

Miguel shrugged. "I mean, you do you. Just doesn't seem like it'd work to me. And if you think we get all insane and chipper for the holidays, I mean, you have met Rosa."

"Easier said than done at times" Dwight said with a slight scoff. "I'm not even sure what my new normal is yet...Kinda playing it by ear and figuring it out as I go, ya know?"

Miguel shrugged. "I get that. And you know if you're looking for normal, you're not going to find it here, right?"

[alwaysonguard]

"If there is one thing I have leaved since coming here it is THAT" Dwight said with a smirk.

[what_the_shock]

"Good to know you're not completely hopeless," Miguel said with a smirk. "So if you go out looking for normal, where do you plan on heading?"

[alwaysonguard]

"Eh, had planned on heading to the mainland. Ya know... enjoy a few days of no (relative) insanity. Stay just long enough for it to start feeling odd... so a couple days" Dwight said with a grin. "Couldn't ever leave or stay gone for long. Like ya said. Got friends here now. Fandom is home."

[what_the_shock]

Miguel toasted him with his coffee. "Good to hear it." He thought for a second. "Want some company? We could head out a day or two and back. I don't get to see much of this end of the century."

"If you really want to come, sure. Wasn't totally keen on being totally alone for it. Change of scenery and some fun on the mainland with a good friend, sounds like a plan to me."

[what_the_shock]

"Hey, if you think I qualify." Miguel shrugged. "Sure. I don't really have much planned myself, unless Rosa needs me for a job."

[alwaysonguard]

"You were one of the first, if not the first person to welcome me here when I first arrived. I think Rosa technically beat you but well, you know good her welcomes are" he said with a laugh. "And you've been the one person who has bothered until fairly recently to take the time to get to know me and have made Fandom feel more like home. So yes, you count."

[what_the_shock]

Miguel shrugged that off. "You give me coffee. You'll never be rid of me."

[alwaysonguard]

"Well I will keep that in mind" Dwight said, eyeing Miguel for a moment. "But if Rosa is ok with you taking off, wouldn't say no to the company."

Miguel snorted. "I know she get scary, but I'm not actually under her thumb or anything. Unless we've got plans, it won't be a problem. I'll check with her about that and get back to you, we can plan a time."

[alwaysonguard]

"Sounds good" Dwight said, bypassing the Rosa being getting scary at times because... yes obviously. "Will be waiting to hear from ya."

Miguel toasted him with his coffee. "Meanwhile, let me know when you need help with that."
