Fix and Pro- Wed

It was a fairly laid back day at the shop. A couple of the bigger projects were done and the few that were still on the to-do list could wait a little while longer. Right now Dwight was working on a personal project.

He was getting back to his woodworking roots and putting the finishing touches on the head board to the new bed frame he had been working on for the last few days. He figured since he was here to stay and wasn't planning on packing up and leaving any time soon it was high time he had a decent bed up in his apartment.

So there he was, sanding away, creating quite the pile of sawdust at his feet in the process.

Jon walked in, saw the sawdust, and hesitated. "Erm...is now a...I wonder if now's a good time."

"Is the door open?" Dwight said motioning towards the door Jon had obviously just walked through. "Any time is a good time then. Good to see you Jon. Things have been well with you I hope" Dwight added as he brushed his hands off and walked over.

Jon looked rough, although marginally better than he had earlier in the week.

"I'm fine. I, um. I was - one of my tenants said the locks weren't as secure as they could be, and I was wondering if you did that sort of thing. Replacing them, I mean."

"Yeah, I can work on locks and such, not a problem. We looking at possibly replacing all of them or just a few of them?" Dwight asked. "Either way is fine. I have some in stock but if we are talking about a dozen or so locks I will need to order in a few more."

"I'd like it if you could come look at them," Jon said. "She replaced one herself, so if you compare that to one of the existing ones, you could probably see what the difference is and what needs to be done."

Dwight nodded as he thought for a moment. "Can come by tomorrow if that works for you. Can put in an order if I need to over the weekend."

Jon nodded. "I would appreciate that. Thank you."

"No problem. Glad to help" Dwight said. "Can I get you something to drink? I have coffee brewed and I'm pretty sure I have some tea bags somewhere. Though it's nothing fancy or special unfortunately."

"Oh, um." Jon hesitated. "Tea would be lovely, thank you."

A couple minutes later Dwight was setting a steaming mug down on the counter. "Cream or sugar?" he asked as he made mental note of what mug he had used. He had his favorite mug, Miguel had ended dup with his own unofficial mug when he came by, so he figured might as well have one for Jon if he stopped by again.

"Um. Yes, thank you."

Jon barely had an official mug at home, so that would be novel.

"And you...you're doing well, I hope."

Dwight set the cream and sugar down on the counter and motioned for Jon to take a seat as he sat down on the chair on the other side of the counter with his freshly topped off cup of coffee.

"Things are good. Keeping busy so that's always better than the alternative. Finished up a few collaboration projects and have a few more lined up for down the road. Otherwise just working on finishing up the bed frame before I get it moved upstairs" he said with a nod over towards the work bench.

Jon made up his tea and sat. "Oh, that's for you, then. I thought you were making it for someone else."

"Naww, rare personal project. Figured since I am not going anywhere and here to stay, might be time to upgrade from the pathetic thing upstairs." Dwight glanced up at the ceiling for a moment and chuckled. "A step up from a military cot isn't great for long term. Figured I was overdue for an upgrade."

Jon laughed briefly. "I, um. I can relate." He'd spent about a year sleeping on that cot in the Archives. "I used to sleep on a cot in my...my office," he explained. Not the best time of his life for any number of reasons, but the cot hadn't helped.

"Had spent so many years in so many different conditions when enlisted that a cot was a bit of a luxury. Back in Haven it was just a simple bed, wasn't even big enough for me really, but it worked."

He did have a daughter to focus on and take care of so of course that was where all attention and energy went...and with it just being him now, hadn't given it much thought before.

"Guess I just finally decided I wanted something better. Maybe it will actually help with the sleepless nights" he added with a somewhat sarcastic chuckle. He wasn't going to get his hopes up. But it would be better than nothing.

"Wouldn't that be nice," Jon muttered. He had a decent bed; it didn't help much.

"Yeah not really getting my hopes up but I can at least be comfortable while laying awake staring at the ceiling?"

He paused for a moment and then shrugged.

"If nothing else it is giving me something to do and to keep me distracted." From what exactly? A whole lot of everything that was what.

"Anyways, how's everything else at the apartments going? Everything else holding up well? No issues with tenants or anything?"

"Oh, um. It's going well. I'm still not sure about the tenant that replaced the lock, but no real problems. One new resident. It's not...not terribly eventful, which is good." Jon shrugged.

"True. Guess in a situation like yours, boring is preferable to the alternative" Dwight said with a thoughtful nod. "I go a bit stir crazy if I don't have something to do. Cant stand more than a day maybe two where I'm bored."

Jon huffed. "No, I would actually prefer boredom," he admitted. Even if he didn't handle it well, it was better than the alternative.
