While a lot of the holiday things could easily go right back into the back room for next year, there were, of course, certain perishable things (although Summer was pretty sure the fruitcakes would be fine back there) that she was eager to get rid of, but, instead of just marking them down to absurdly cheap levels just to avoid having to spoil them out, she decided to go for a different tactic this time around:

The less likely they are to show up in a jello shot later!

Which, really, a lot of it wouldn't even be that bad, but she was also thinking that everyone might be getting at least a little over eggnog by now.

That said, Summer tried to get through her inventory stuff quickly that day, so she could focus on extra supplies that were needed with the start of a new semester right around the corner, and then pretty much resigning herself to her laptop at the counter to deal with all that super-fun end-of-year bookkeeping and what have you that, honestly, half the time, she felt she should just send over to Nanao to do, since Shunsui probably should be doing this stuff, but she knew he wouldn't, and that woman had to deal with enough of his crap, anyway.

At least she could trust the fact that if he did notice Summer giving herself a little extra, extra year-end bonus....he wouldn't have an issue with it.

Rey was here for a reason, but with that sign she had to note, "I'm taking that as a preview for Wednesday."

"God, I hope not!" Summer declared with a huff. "I'm so sick of holiday jello at this point, I swear if I even catch another whiff of nutmeg, I'm gonna throw up!"

She rolled her eyes, rolled out her tongue as if already gagging, and gave Rey an apologetic smile for it all.

"Hey, Rey. What's up?"

"I'll buy some of it," Rey promised, because she actually wasn't sick of holiday stuff yet. "I'm here because I need New Year's help."

Okay. Yes. You had Summer's undivided attention as both brows and chin lifted with the intrigue of it all.

"Ohhhhhhhhh?"

It wasn't the vowel, but the dragging of the H was accompanied by an eager grin.

"What kiiiiind of New Year's help?"

It didn't really matter, of course. Summer was clearly already here for it!

"Clothing help."

Rey was awful at accepting help and worse at asking for it... except when it came to fashion.

"I have no idea what I'm doing."

It's a good thing there was no glassware currently near the register at that moment; there was a good chance the excited squeal that escaped Summer as Rey confirmed her greatest hope in that moment would shatter it all.

"Ohmygod, girl," Summer then regained a normal pitch of voice, "do not even worry, I have got you covered. I will warm up the portal gun, we will literally have a multiverse of options at our fingertips!"

Then she leaned eagerly forward on the counter. "Did you have at least an idea? Theme? Color scheme? Individual, or should we be keeping something for John to match in mind? The possibilities are sooo infinite, Rey, what's our jumping off point?"

"Well... I was going to wear my hair down?"

Yep. That was all she had. And she'd had to ask her boyfriend to get that far.

"I'm not sure we need a multiverse for that."

"Well," said Summer, whose eyes managed to get even brighter at this prospect, suddenly wondering just how long Rey hair actually even was when down, "of course we don't neeeeed it...."

But that clearly wasn't the point, and now she was just squinting at Rey speculatively as she started to sort through the potential inspirations and ideas.

That squint worried her a little, so Rey said, "Maybe black?"

That was helpful, right?

"Classic," gushed Summer, with clear approval, and, hey! A color was a big step in a more specified direction! They were making fantastic progress here! "Maybe with a little bit of shimmer? It is New Year's; you've got to bling it up at least a little."

The squinted eyes were replaced with a thoughtful tilt of her head.

"You do know what this means, though, Rey, right?"

"What does this mean?" Rey asked, curious. And a little worried with that head tilt but she wasn't showing it.

Literally none of what was coming out of Summer's mouth right now should be surprising to anyone who'd spent more than five minutes in a room with her, Rey, really, now.

"We have to go shopping," she informed her, with every bit of gravitas and importance that such an event called for. "That's the only way we're going to find the perfect dress, you know."

Plus, it was a convenient excuse to get to maybe see Rey try on a whole bunch of stuff that she would probably never in a million years try on. Sign. Her. Up.

"Yeah, I did know that. I get veto power, though," Rey said quickly, just in case.

She trusted Summer. But like, still good to get that out there.

"Well, duh," Summer allowed. "Obviously. You're the one who's wearing it, so your final verdict is absolute law, but, I mean..."

She opened her hands a little, before they fell importantly to her chest. "We are in my territory with this one, and you came to me for help because you're smart and know I know what I'm doing,so I shall lead the way, and we are going to find a dress so perfect and you're going to look so gorgeous that I might actually kind of start hating you, but, you know, just, like, a little."

"Can we stop short of hating me at all?" Rey teased.

"Mmmmm," Summer considered it, but she didn't look very convinced, "maybe. I mean, I guess I can't really hate you; it's not like you can help being friggin' gorgeous."

And that was without even trying, too. Ugh! Life was so unfair.

"Thanks," Rey said, while not believing that at all. ""And thank you for doing this."

"Please," said Summer, the of her eyes now accompanied with a fond grin as well. "Don't even pretend like you think this even remotely a hardship for me...

"Buuuuut," she added, "I do appreciate you being willing to open that door for me."
