Furnado Animal Shelter; Monday [01/03].
Even with all of her mixed feelings about coming back after going home for the break, Sakaki had to admit, she would have desperately missed the animal shelter most of all, even the cats who did not hesitated to remind her that they had claws and teeth almost the second she walked back in through those doors. Actually, she had to admit, especially those cats, because she couldn't blame them for progress loss while she was away, and she was determined, by the end of the semester, maybe, that she would finally win them over!
Either way, there was a lot of stuff to catch up on, and she threw herself into those things for a while, and then she just sort of had to marvel a little at the new tanks that had been put in at the back of the shop. They took up practically the whole wall, and they were really quite beautiful, surprisingly fancy and elegant in their design, with great big clear glass plates where one could easily become mesmerized by the graceful dance of the various fish within, the aquatic plants that had been laid out among the rocks and coral that swayed gently in the subtle currents...
...until all of a sudden, there was a giant flash of red that reminded Sakaki all too well of just why these large tanks had been built in the first place, as Sidon himself appeared out of seemingly nowhere (which was impressive, for a creature of his size!) in the window she had been daydreaming at and startled her so bad that she shouted a little and jumped and the broom she'd been holding went flying off somewhere and crashed into a shelf with a loud noise and at least one yowling and skittering cat that was probably going to be that much more difficult to win over now.
"Sakaki!" Sidon shouted from inside the tank. "Hello! Good morning! Aren't the new tanks just splendid? Did they not just do the most amazing and marvelous job?"
He flashed her both a thumbs up and a big smile, and the thumbs up would have probably been fine, but that smile had all those teeth and Sakaki, stiff and wide-eyed and not even sure she could move, much less respond, forced herself, staring, to lift a hand and a thumb in response.
And then she was going to slowly back away a few steps until she felt it was safe to just turn and run back to the front of the store and the safety of the counter, where maybe, her poor heart rate would go down enough by the end of her shift.
Furnado is open!
