Community Center Class | Keeping Your Advantage: Terrain and You! | Thursday Evening
Super-small class this term, but Yang wasn't going to let that deter her.
"What up?" she said, cracking her knuckles and grinning cheerfully once her team was assembled.
"So, some of the other teachers normally handle this class, but I was like, nah, I think it should be open to everyone and not just the kids at the school. So! I stole their syllabus and decided to make it mine!"
"Welcome to Terrain! Because sometimes, this island goes nuts and you might get stuck somewhere that is TOTALLY not the type of climate you're used to! A portal could dump you in an underwater city, or the tundra, or, like, a monster-infested forest."
"My plan is to give you a basic grounding in the varying types of terrain you might encounter as either an adventurer, or a resident of Fandom Island. 'Cause let's be honest, the fact you live here is testimony to the fact that you never know where you may find yourself."
"So from cityscapes to icebergs, each week we will look at a different type of terrain, and one thing you can do to make your life easier. And no, I'm not gonna let you know too far in advance what we're doing each week, because I don't want you to have time to prepare for each scenario. Too many times you'll have to work with only the things you have on you during an emergency, and learning to keep your wits about you is important."
"Today? Let's walk and talk. Hope you brought a coat, we're gonna hike around the island, learn about our local geography, and get to know each other! Let's go!"

During the Lecture
Hike Hike Hike!
"So, this is, like, a super informal class, and really just an excuse for me to work-out every week in different terrains." Yang confessed. "So, tell me what type of terrain you're most used to, what you want to get familiar with, and whatever else you wanna talk about while we walk. Let's go!"
Re: Hike Hike Hike!
Of course this was the same person who'd managed to set fire in a game of monopoly so Goose could still manage to find a way to set a fire in this class.
"I'm part of the Galaxy Rangers back home, Series 5 Taskforce," Goose revealed as they hiked, "I'm used to navigating a lot of very different terrains and my previous training meant they had us prepared to fight in a lot of different terrains as well," he revealed and there was a pause, "I don't mind what kind of terrains we end up being in," he added.
Re: Hike Hike Hike!
Yang had gotten very paranoid about having a small kit with her at all times since the fall of Beacon. None of it would have saved her arm, but it might have saved other people.

She held up her mechanical arm, wriggling the bright yellow fingers at him. "Still lost my right arm and almost died in a terrorist attack. You never know what's going to happen, so we're going to err on the side of safety rather than emergency."
Re: Hike Hike Hike!
There was a pause as he considered what she'd said, "I'm sorry that happened," he said, "my Captain ended up being attacked right before the Task Force was formed, he lost the feeling in the left side of his body, they were able to replace it with machinery," he revealed.
Re: Hike Hike Hike!
Pffft. Gladio was mildly allergic to coats, thanks, but he was, at least, wearing a shirt.
Possibly because Iggy had insisted.
But he was trying his best to not look too amused by everything as he was more than happy to get in another hike for the day, thinking his Thursdays were going to be pretty great, and, you know, also wondering if he'd let certain elephants hang out with them on their hike for a little longer. But he did appreciate that, apparently, him and Yang pretty much had the same approach to their respective classes so far.
"Mostly urban," he offered, which he didn't think would surprise Yang much, "and the area around Insomnia's pretty flat and rocky, so I'd love to get to do some work somewhere more mountainous. Probably hot. Or cold. Honestly, I'm just hoping to get some real challenges in with this class."
He definitely wasn't taking it for the views.
Although he'd have to admit, that was a nice bonus.
Re: Hike Hike Hike!
"There's actually a really nice rock climbing gym on the mainland," she said thoughtfully, "I go once a week. It's indoors, but it's the largest in the state. I'll throw it into the mix for us before we go bouldering or free climbing in the wild."
Re: Hike Hike Hike!
And he thought, briefly, of adding something else, maybe asking her how she'd been or something like that, but, really? This was a good stride right here, no point in throwing off a good stride if you really didn't have to.
Re: Hike Hike Hike!
You deal with major PTSD your way, she'd do it hers.
"It's, like, doing Arm Day, but more integrated with everything else. I love it," she admitted with a slightly crooked grin. "I like to go on the weekend, because they have yoga classes running basically all day that I can use as a warm-up and cool-down."
"If you decide you like it after we go as a class, I have a pile of free guest passes sitting around that I'm not using. They're all yours."
Which was Yang's way of saying 'I'm cool if you're cool.' But without throwing off the flow. Or making their other companion uncomfortable.
