Blackstone Foundry and Forge; Tuesday [01/18].
The cold and snow certainly hadn't been bothering Amaya much, mostly because she had very little intention of going out into it (unless it was maybe to try out a few new features on the Crumbler, anyway), because one place that was pretty much always guaranteed to be warm and cozy even on the coldest of days, it was right here in her own forge!
...ahhh, zards, now the narrative just cursed her to some day in the future where the fire wouldn't stoke no matter what she tried, didn't it?
Well! That was a chilly day to deal with when and if it arrived! For now, though, she was just working on a simple sowrd, one for the supplies, really, while contremplating maybe trying her hand at two little mini-hatchets in the style of the axe she'd worked on for Margo. After all, the woman looked like the type that would appreciate a few good accessories, and there seemed to be a potential opportunity there she wasn't sure she should pass up.
The Forge is open!

The Forge is open!

handwavelyhelped him bring over a few days ago."I think this will do it," Dwight said standing up and straightening his back slightly. "If I have to run back to the shop for the oddball tool or whatever so be it. But I think this should be everything we need to get started."
He gave Amaya a grin and nodded at the sword she was working on. "How's that coming along?"
no subject
It was kind of a miracle that she hadn't pretty much tried to do that already, really.
She quirked a chin at the last of what Dwight brought in.
"You sure that's everything?" she asked, with the faintest smirk. "Would hate for you to be elbows deep in it only to discover you might be needing the other half of your shop, too."
no subject
"I think I should be good" Dwight said after a moment of mock serious consideration. "If anything, knowing my luck I will end up trekking across the island to go get a few screws or something silly like that."
Setting the last bag down on the ground, Dwight brushed his hands off and then turned back to Amaya with a smirk. "All that's left to get started is one important decision we have to make first." He paused for a moment for dramatic affect before adding. "Do we start the demo on the existing counter now or later?"
no subject
"And I can't believe you even have to ask! I've been looking forward to smashing that old thing ever since you started lugging everything over! I think the real question here, Dwight, is how much do you really want some of that wood salvaged?"
Because she had a very big hammer and very little sentimentality.

"I'm all for getting to the smashing and breaking. As far as salvaging, I'd like to grab a few pieces. Can grab some of the bigger pieces initially and then we can whack and smash to your heart's content."

She seemed to consider this proposal carefully for a moment before giving a firm, sage-like nod. "I think we can manage to save at least a few sizeable chunks," she decided, and then, setting aside the sword for now, she turned to reach for something else, and then set two considerable sledgehammers on her anvil with a loud thunk.
"Gentleman's choice," she offered with a broad and eager grin.
All day, Dwight. She'd been looking forward to this all day!

"And lady's first" he said with a grin waiting for Amaya to take first whack, before quickly following with an initial swing of his own.
And yes. This was going to be fun. SO. MUCH. FUN!

"You know," Amaya said, taking up her
weapon of destructiontool of construction eagerly and taking a step toward the counter, "I'm not usually in support of chivalrous considerations, but I think?" She sharpened her grin. "With this? I'll gladly make an exception."And with that, she braced herself, lifting up the hammer and, with a growl for the effort and the effect, and when it came swinging down--
--it stopped, just shy of hitting it.
"Wait," Amaya suddenly realized, then turned to Dwight with a slight frown. "Do you think we should say something first?"

She would not be, but hanging around the blacksmith and inventing reasons to visit seemed like good a compromise!

"You're not wrong!" Amaya noted, rather proudly, giving the sword a good strike before taking a appreciative glance around the shop. "Forge keeps it nice and toasty, we're well-armed in case anything attacks, the Crumbler works as both plow and generator to handle any inclement weather..."
And that wasn't even mentioning all the fresh food (and other herbs, ahem) from the greenhouse upstairs.
"You know, I usually run my blacksmithing workshops in the summer, but maybe I've been getting it all wrong this whole time."
She gave the sword one more good blow for good measure, before resting her hammer against her shoulder and turning her attention to Irene more directly.
"What can we do you for today, Irene?"
Because, clearly, the only reason she would have possibly had to come in was purely for business!
no subject
"And I'm here to visit you, of course," she added, as though the only reason she could have possibly come in was to flirt at Amaya and call it visiting. "What're you working on? Sword?"
It looked like a sword, anyway. Irene was prepared to be told it was actually something much more specific.
no subject
And who just visited people, anyway? Really, now, Irene!
Although, at the forefront of all of this, was just a keen desire to have actually have been working on something much more specific. But, as it were...
"Yup," she offered, looking over at the unfortunately nondescript blade, "just a sword. One of the ones for the pile of 'em I keep in the off chance someone's not looking for anything fancy, or in case someone just needs a whole mess of them very quickly."
Because you could never have too many swords!
no subject
Little bitty knives, sure. Handguns, yes. But swords were bulky! As were maces, no matter how much Irene admired Amaya's work!
"But I suppose if we needed to arm the town quickly in an emergency, you'd be the first stop," she added, because why not throw a bit of flattery in. Even if Wellspring would be a more practical choice for her, personally, in that case.
no subject
Her look went just slightly wary for a second, but she could easily count any of all that as Irene just being practical, and it was hard not to appreciate someone with a decent sense of practicality about them, so she nodded. "Wouldn't be the worst idea," she allowed. "And, well, no, we never have needed a pile of swords on the quick just like that before, but, boy, are we going to be glad we've got on in the event that we do. Never hurts to be prepared."
