Caritas; Wednesday [01/19].

Summer told herself she wasn't going to ask. She really, really wasn't going to ask, as she watched Tino drag an inflatable kiddie pool across the bar to the backroom. She probably didn't need to ask, once he then dragged a large bag of colorful plastic balls across the bar to the back room as well. And she shouldn't ask, really, buuuut....

"Tino," she finally caved, "why are you building the world's most pathetic ball pit in the back room?"

Which meant that he went onto explain that Kitty had been trying to think of new uses for the back room yesterday, and this was his contribution to the cause.

And you know, Summer was going to say something snarky and demeaning in response, but, at that moment, he just looked so damn proud of himself and sincere about it that she just couldn't.

"You know what?" she allowed. "It's great. Good job. I'm sure she'd going to love it."

And now to figure out just what to do with a sword that was also apparently alcohol that showed up for some reason.

The sword is apparently filled with brandy, and Summer was wishing she knew about this about a month ago.

Definitely some real DashCon vibes back here this evening...

I have the new cat on my lap purring and the old cat is just staring up at me looking betrayed and it's super awkward, you guys.

“I see I should have stopped by Chilly Boulder before I came here,” Lucifer observed, as he sat down at the bar. “Now I have the worst craving for ice cream.”

Stark, unsurprisingly, was still having a terrible week. But he'd made it to Wednesday night and a guarantee of at least one friendly face and maybe that would help. A little. It probably wouldn't hurt.

"One of each. Not the spinach." At least he wasn't quite lost enough to order the horrifying jello. Yet. "Please."

“So I managed to not set any fires to my kitchen,” Goose announced as he approached the bar that evening.

Because that was the first thing Summer wanted to hear right? “oh and I’ll try one of each shot please,” he added as he indicated the specials, yes he was absolutely looking forward to trying the spinach shot.

Annie had been a bit late leaving New York this week, and thus rather than bothering to swing home first and change, she'd opted to head straight to the bar in uniform once she'd portaled in. (Was this at least partially prompted by the fact that she knew if she went home, it was very likely that between the snow and Diego, she wouldn't leave again? Maybe.)

"Ooh, rainbow sorbet sounds good," she decided, making sure she didn't sit on her cape as she took a seat. "Want a Starlight Pop? They sent me home with a whole box of samples today." And the less said about how they wanted to market those things, the better.

"Ah, but you see," said Summer, wasting no time at all in starting to set up the line of shots for Lucifer, "these at least have booze."

Not...that it would effect him at all, but still! It was the principle of the matter?

And, with the final shot in place, she gave him a nod. "Mr. Morningstart. How goes it?"

Honestly, if Stark hadn't specified not the spinich one, then Summer would have been really worried. But, since he had, she just grinned faintly at him, nodded, and set him up with only those shots that remained spinach-free.

"How's it going, Stark?" she asked softly.

She had, of course, gotten into the terrible habit of mostly only listening to radio when it pertained to herself, but it was a small island, and certain squirrels still opined the days when they got to gossip more regularly with her, especially when it benefited the narrative as a whole.

Plus, she kind of lived in the same building; if Goose had started a fire, Summer liked to think she'd have at least heard about it.

"I think," Summer decided, as she happily set out the line of shots for Goose, "that calls for the first one free even without a karaoke song. How did it go, though, Goose? The not-burning-down-your-kitchen notwithstanding?"

But Annie! You were literally just across the street! It was the whole reason to live in MHA, honestly, the easy access to the bar even in winter!

Okay, maybe she'd accept things like 'boyfriends being there' beig another reason for living in MHA, but still!

"I don't know what the fuck that is," Summer admitted, as she set down one of the rainbow shots for Annie, "but of course I want one. You just coming in from work, I take it? Although honestly, if you're suddenly feeling uniform vibes and just feeling it right now, I'm super down for it, this is peak adorable."

The really weird voicemail Jesse had gotten that morning was still on her mind. She came in during a busy moment, phone in hand, and sat down at the bar.

Eyeing it.

Did that come from the bureau? Has the fridge escaped, or is this something else completely? Or was it just a butt dial and I'm overthinking it? ... Does anyone else even have my phone number?

"I'm doing quite well, thank you," Lucifer said, reaching for the ice cream shot immediately. "Beginning to readjust to slightly less terrible temperatures."

"I don't know," Stark admitted, looking down at the shots. "Not... not well?"

Kurt had done a pretty good job of getting the lay of the land over the last few weeks. But he hadn't stopped by Caritas yet, so when he was done with his classes and everything and had been exploring a little more it was of course time to come check it out.

"Summer! Hey!" he said as he walked up to the bar somewhat timidly, looking around at everyone else there. "I didn't know you worked here too!" And yes there was a strong emphasis on that 'too' because really... where didn't Summer pull a shift at around here?

Annie twirled out a star-shaped lollipop, wrapped in the typical Starlight gold-and-white branding, and offered it out over the bar.

"Came straight from work," Annie agreed, though not without a little preening because Summer was right, she was adorable. "I've had cameras in my face since like eight this morning so I'm probably gonna need a second shot. Is the theme, like, rainbows this week?

"That's not...usually a long and arduou readjustment for most people," Summer snoted with a faint snort. "Athough I guess the key word here might be slightly less terrible..."

"Which I guess is, arguably, better than just straight up bad?" Summer tried hopefully, then looked at Stark thoughtfully before adding, "Anything you want to talk about?"

It was the little cape-adjustment before sitting that really sealed the deal for her. Like, she just could't, it was almost too much! But she grinned as she took the lollipop, giving it a good inspection before unwrapping it, sniffing it (what? it was generally a good habit to sniff random things before putting them into your mouth, so you could better prepare for what you might be in for!), and then popping it into her mouth.

Then shrugged a shoulder.

"The theme was basically whatever I felt like plus whatever I had on hand but that also would still kind of be impressive," she offered. "I literally just did the entire 'I Have a Dream' speech in jello shots shaped like all the letters for a catering order earlier this week, so my creative energy was pretty much non-existant. Do you even know how long that actual speech is, Annie? It is so long."

Well, at least Jesse wouldn't be just eyeing an empty bar for too long, because Summer was definitely putting a nice generic beer right there in her field of vision.

And then eyeing her a little.

"Jes?" she greeted/asked. "How's it going?"

"It is bad I'm just..." Drinking a lot to not deal with it?

"She left," he said miserably. "And I'm... she left."

Summer met that comment with sort of a wry smile and a reminder that she hadn't even been doing her due diligence at Groovy Tunes these days like she should, either, but, hey, what can you do? When you had a million jobs, sometimes a few of them fell through the cracks.

"Yeah, well," she said, with an almost automatic sort of feel to her shrug, "I like to keep busy. What can I get for you, Kurt?"

Summer mustered up another soft, sympathetic sort of smile for Stark as she already began setting up another trio of shots.

"I'm sorry, Stark," she offered, because that was pretty much the easier, most simple next step in this conversation. "That really sucks."

Which felt like a massive understatement, but, at the same time, sometimes it just felt good to have someone acknowledge it? Maybe? Especially when a not-small part of Summer had always kind of felt like Stark was really setting himself up for this exact kind of disappointment eventually...
