"Good evening," Hannibal greeted them all, smiling. "Our weather lately has been regrettably typical of an east coast winter. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to get comfortable. A number of which involve food."

He brought out a number of carafes. "Depending on your background and personal preference, tea, coffee, and hot cocoa are common comforters. Mulled wine and cider and hot toddies are other frequent winter drinks if you enjoy alcohol."

He headed for the stove. "Today I have recipes for each - yes, even for the tea and coffee, because there are proper ways to make them. You will get to practice making any of them that you like. Or, if you have another drink you prefer, I encourage you to make that and explain it to us all.

"Then we will all indulge in proper winter comfort - drinking the hot drinks while wrapped in soft blankets," he set a pile of those on the table, "listening to music," he had his phone and a long classical playlist for that, "and chatting about anything that isn't important." He'd almost brought the cats, but somebody might have been allergic.

He spread his arms. "And above all, enjoy."

Get ready to be comforted!

Make drinks! Tea, coffee, hot cocoa, mulled wine, mulled cider, hot toddy.

Astrid's day had started with tea, so she considered how it would be a nice bookend to end it with tea, as well, but honestly, once mulled cider entered the picture, she felt compelled toward that and she knew she would not regret her decision.

She was pretty sure she didn't need to drink it to feel better; she could just stand here breathing it in and be fine...but she was glad she'd get to drink it as well.

"A fan of cider?" Hannibal smiled. "Do you prefer it spiked or simply spiced?"

"I'm not opposed to it spiked," Astrid said with a faint grin, and a small shrug, "but simply spiked is probably more appropriate for a classroom setting. Besides, I started my day with tea, and, while it would be a nice symmatry to end it with tea as well, I'm realizing I don't think to enjoy a nice warm cider nearly as much as I should....or could, even."

Hannibal nodded. "You may have noticed, I'm not terribly bothered for what's appropriate to a classroom. So long as it's polite in general," he amended.

"I would approve of the symmetry, but you should absolutely go with the choice that makes you happiest."

"Symmetry," said Astrid, finding it even more difficult to help herself in response to those answers, "is overrated. Life is never that perfectly balanced."

Hannibal smiled. "All the more reason we should try it if it makes us happy," he pointed out. "But there's no reason to otherwise. And what you want to try for can change from time to time, as well. So, no symmetry tonight, then."

Liz was still trying to cut back on her caffeine intake so she decided to make herself a cup of tea and focus on making that instead.

Kurt really didn't need any caffeine at that point in the evening, and as tempting as it was to ask about the mulled wine or cider, he settled on trying out that delicious cocoa recipe. It probably had at least a little less caffeine than the coffee did. And besides, he could always burn off any excess energy at the gym after class if he needed.

Guillermo decided to try and make a cider since he really didn’t need caffeine this late and the cider looked like an interesting option to try and make.

Jo was absolutely making a hot cocoa, she had missed going to the Perk last week on account of her knee, so she was definitely trying to make the cocoa this week.

"You seem to be a fast learner," Hannibal observed, nodding to Jo. "You see? You can do it."

Jo nodded, “I never thought I’d be able to make something like this on my own,” she admitted shyly, “but it doesn’t seem to be as hard as I thought it was,”

Hannibal leaned in. "I'll tell you a secret - it's never that hard once you learn it." He chuckled. "The first trick is knowing that you can."

Get comfy in a blanket and/or in a pile if that's your thing, and talk. Or just sit. Or get a pack of cards or something from the games in the center.

Astrid definitely had herself wrapped in a nice, soft blanket, and her hands were wrapped around her nice warm mug of mulled cider, and she sipped at it thinking she would be perfectly content to just sit and listen to others talk, though she wouldn't be opposed to joining in if she wound up having anything worthwhile to add. Then again, it seemed a shame to just spoil a nice cozy moment...and, really, it wouldn't be too long before her mind started to wonder toward some nice warm, cozy art pieces she'd probably spend most of her night working on now once this was done.

After how she had been last week, Liz felt a lot more calmer and relaxed as she found a blanket to wrap herself in and a spot to sit while she drank her tea.

She wasn’t completely comfortable with talking to the group in general so she was content to just watch and listen for the moment.

Hannibal simply nodded to her, approving of the relaxation as both the teacher and her therapist.

Hot and tasty drink and a warm blanket was a great way to spend the evening. Because even though he was covering in fur, Kurt still disliked to cold and would not say no to getting cozy and relaxed.

And he was pleasantly surprised to find a familiar looking deck of cards in the pile of games. "Someone else actually knows Mau-Mau?" he asked in surprise. "I used to play this all the time back home!" he added with a fond grin.

"You would be surprised some of the things that can be found in Fandom," Hannibal noted.

Guillermo absolutely opted for a blanket pile and sprawled out on his rather comfortably and drank his cider as he did.

Hannibal smiled and nodded at the pile. "If nothing else, I hope you all learn to relax by the end of this course."

Even though her knee was healing and was doing a lot better, Jo was still taking it easy and so she wrapped herself in a blanket, found a spot to sit and drank her hot cocoa.
