Fix&Clean Shop- Tuesday Morning

Dwight had been keeping busy over the holiday weekend even though he hadn't been to Amaya's forge in a few days. He had some things to take care of and a little side project of his own that was finally finished. Standing back and admiring his handy work he smiled.

"Think it turned out pretty good. What do you think boy?" he asked the pup running around the shop chasing some of the wood shavings on the floor. Snoopy stopped and looked up at him with a happy bark before going back to his more important task of catching that wood shaving.

"Thanks for the vote of confidence there" Dwight said with a laugh. "I think we need to get you upstairs though before you get into something you shouldn't." Dwight shook his head with a sig as he scooped up the tiny pup and headed to the apartment upstairs.

When he came back a short time later, Dwight pulled out his phone and called Amaya. Not having her pick up was normal seeing how noisy the forge was most of the time. So, he simply left a voicemail asking her to come by if she had the chance today to see a new project he had just finished working on. And with the voice mail sent he started making himself busy with random things around the shop, trying to ignore that feeling that was building inside... had to just be something he ate that morning. It definitely wouldn't be nerves or anything. There was no reason to be nervous or excited about Amaya coming to check out this project... none at all.. so it had to be something else entirely...

(post and shop are open! Expecting one but anyone else can stop by before or after XD)

On the one hand, after the Flower Situation, Amaya was in absolutely no rush to see Dwight, at least not until the whole thing had some time to blow over into general obscurity, but, on the other hand, she did like projects, and she was very curious to see what Dwight had been working on that he was proud enough about to have called her about it, especially if it was something that wound up using the scrap wood he'd salvaged from the counter.

She was going to head over a bit later than when she noticed the voicemail, though, but that was entirely practical, as she was still doing some work on that new hilt, and, well, leaving the shop and putting out the forge was a whole process and pretty much would mean she'd be done for the day, so she was going to get the most out of her time before heading on over to Dwight's shop.

And....well, it did skirt dangerously close to having to mention the Flower Situation, but maybe he'd also have some perspective on those mystery flowers, too. She actually did feel kind of bad about it, and it would be nice if she could figure out who they were really meant for before they started to turn...

But first things first. "Hey, there, Dwight," Amaya greeted as she entered the shop, lifting a hand in a wave. "What's this I hear about about a project?"

Amaya did always appreciate a little extra dramatic flair, as she was smirking with amusement as she folded her arms in front of her and waited to be impressed. And while a set of planters seemed to be a little underwhelming after a reveal like that, she had to admit, it was a pretty good presentation.

"Could probably use more spikes," she offered, because, hey! Look at who could be self-referetial! "But those are pretty good! You really cobbled those together out of the old counter?"

She moved closer to the worktable, gesturing to them with an unspoken question in her glance if it was alright if she were to pick one up for a closer inspection.

As Amaya picked up one of the planters and started to give it a thorough inspection, her mouth would begin to ask a question between each of Dwight's talking points, only to have pretty much each of the ones on her list pretty much checked off at each one. Almost to the point where she wished she could dig up at least one more as if to stump him, but, no, he managed to hit all the marks without her even making a peep!

"This is some mighty fine work you've got here, Dwight," she commented, as she finally held it up as if imagining exactly how it might hang. "Not that I'm surprised, of course. Might have to ask you to whip a few of these for myself, actually, I think I know just the place in the greenhouse where a couple of these might work particularly well."

"Well, that's good to hear!" Amaya remarked, her attention still on scrutenizing her imaginary placement of the planters for a moment longer. "Gotta admit, it would have been a real kick in the pants if someone else got the ones that were made from my counter!"

And, with that, she lowered the planter to turn toward what the other part of it was. "Oh! Snapdragons! The," normal!, "Earth kind! Great choice, those'll sit inside of one of these nicely, I should think! And it's a good thing the spots I had in mind are away from my others ones; they tend to get a little territorial, and have torn up any others ones I've tried to put in even remotely close to them! The elevation should help with that, unless it turns out they've been able to fly this whole time, too!"

Honestly, she wouldn't put it past them, though she supposed the whole 'being stuck in the dirt' part should help with that.

"You could always make little trinkets for the lobsters," Amaya pointed out, mostly because she thought of suggesting a little trinket of the lobsters, but then realized there was a much better idea in there. "And, what? I haven't told you about my snapdragons? They're always a favorite," she snorted faintly, "when people have to watch my plants for things like the school trips. Needless to say, I was pretty suprised to find out that snapdragons around here," hitching her thumb toward the ones on the worktable, "don't actually snap! And I always tell people, you know, mine may bite, but I hear there's some rare varieties that'll actually breath fire! That might be a bit much, though, even for me."

[personal profile] special_rabbit 2022-02-15 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, well," said Amaya, glad that there was plenty to say on the matter so she could just skip right over anything at all about normal innocent roses, "the snapdragons aren't actually from Daventry. Most dangerous plant you're likely to run into out that way is the wild thorn brambles that seem to just overgrow everything if you don't mind them enough and chunder-blossoms, which are noxious enough to make me sick just thinking about them! No, the snap dragons I picked up from a merchant from Llewdor who claims to have gotten them from a pirate out Tanalore way who said they got it from a wizard out in Serenia who swears he found 'em in the actual Land of the Green Isles, which may or may not even exist, but for the price I got 'em at, I wasn't going to ask too many questions, if you know what I mean."
special_rabbit: (gasp!)

[personal profile] special_rabbit 2022-02-15 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, who would want to talk about normal innocent roses, anyway, when there were snapdragons that actually snapped?

"The flora, maybe," Amaya allowed, "but the fauna? Well. That there's a different story. But it's nice enough, I suppose. Things were getting a bit too quiet there for my tastes; quiet towns don't pay the bills. The squirrels here are singificantly nosier, but I'll take gremlins over goblins any day of the week, and metal roses and throwing stars over endless replacements for spears that aren't even used for anything, as well!"

Honestly, how the Daventry Guard went through so many spears was well beyond any rhyme, reason, or logic.

But finishing out that particular ramble, Amaya hesitated a moment, as if testing the weight on a decision, eyeing Dwight somewhat speculatively all the while. It certainly was a risk to mention it, but, well, fortune did favor the bold...

"Speaking of roses," she said, that word seemingly spoken with enough distaste that her lip curled a little in a faint snarl with a wrinkling of her nose, and she sighed, "but you would't have happened to have heard anything about anyone missing a bunch of them from yesterday, by chance, would you? I'm pretty sure some got delivered to my place by accident, but they left no indication of who they were for or who they were from, so it's going to be quite the challenging figuring out where they're supposed to go before they start withering away."
special_rabbit: (defiant uncertainty)

[personal profile] special_rabbit 2022-02-15 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
There was....a paaaaause.

"Nope!" said Amaya. Firmly. Possibly a little cheerfully. "Just the one set, and those clearly weren't for me! Boy, they must have been getting all the deliveries wrong this year, I guess that's what they get for enlisting squirrels....or gremlins...or whoever is actually in charge of delivering those things. Probably the moose! That'd actually explain a lot!"
special_rabbit: (concerned frown listening)

[personal profile] special_rabbit 2022-02-16 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
And now Dwight was going to get a dubious squint, because apparently, something had happened in the last few minutes or so that managed to make any and all sense of logic and reason go all topsy-turvy or something, because that didn't make any sense, maybe more of the orders had got all mixed up and whatever other flowers he was talking about wound up on an entirely different doorstep, too.

Because if those other ones had been from him...

"That moose," she concluded, staunchly, with a shake of her head, "I swear, he's becoming a real problem. Someone ought to talk to him, or better yet, scrap the whole flower idea all together, avoid all these muddled mix-ups in the first place!"

Mushy holiday flowers were a far cry from growing petunias and snapdragons, and that note was a far cry from a simple thank you!

But Amaya couldn't just say any of that. She could, however, give Dwight a look that was half-withering, half-pleading, half-disconserted (yes, she was squeezing three halves into one look, just try and stop her), before finally just muttering, "Well, at least the money went to a good cause for the school."

"That bar's so low it may as well be underground," Amaya muttered, especially since he apparently seemed pretty set on continuing to mention the mushy holiday flowers, and she huffed an annoyed sigh of her own and gave herself at least a few more justifications that he could have still been swayed by some weird Fandom thing, and that, hey, if some weird Fandom thing was going to make him think it was a good idea to get her not just one, but two sets of mushy holiday flowers and even mushier notes to go sith them...

....she should honestly be grateful that that's all it swayed him to think, considering this place!

So with that, she looked to the planters again and would at least acquiesce this much, "They are very nice planters, Dwight, and good flowers to go with, as well, so...thank you."

See, Dwight? See how she did that? Saying thank you by just using the bloody words??
