Coping through Cuisine, Community Center, Monday evening

Hannibal was dressed about as casually as he got today when the class met at Portalocity - designer jeans, an almost slouchy cashmere sweater, and not even a tie.

"Welcome." He nodded to them. "Today we will be heading out to the mainland, as there are certain types of food that I am not at all qualified to make or comfortable in making."

He waved them through the portal with a barely hidden wince. At the other side, they would find themselves at...a McDonald's.

"Many people find comfort in fast food. In America, that often means greasy, chemical-laden burgers and fries, and this is one of the most popular venues. So, we will get food, those of you who are from other places can explain what the equivalent is in your home, and perhaps you can try to explain to me the appeal, since while I acknowledge it, it is not a fascination I share."

He led them inside and sat down at a table. He would probably not be eating anything here himself.

Astrid's associations with fast food, especially McDonald's, was hardly comforting, so she thought about just mostly sitting back on this one. But maybe, actually, in the spirit of the class, and the spirit of her recent nihilism in the face of graduation, maybe she would contribute after all.

"A social worker staple," she commented wryly at some point, settled in with her small hamburger, small fries, small soda. "They seem to think every kid loves this stuff..."

Look, the last week of vacation had totally destroyed any attempt at a diet Dwight might have been attempting. One more day, a final treat before trying to get back on that horse again wasn't going to do that much more damage to the diet right?

And so he sat with the rest of the class at the tables with his Double Quarter Pounder with cheese, large fries, and large soda. Yes he was aware of how bad it was... but it was comfort food!

"At least it's not too bad if you keep it to a now and then thing right?" he offered somewhat sheepishly.

Liz considered a response as she looked at her filet a fish meal, she’d eaten quite a bit of McDonald’s on various missions that she’d been on over the years.

“Well, I suppose it’s convenient if you don’t want to cook for a night and want to pick up something that’s quick?” she finally offered.

“I guess it can be comforting to know you don’t have to cook, especially if there's not a lot of time,” Liz considered, “we did eat a lot of fast food on missions back home, especially if we were on stakeouts or doing research,”

It had always been an interesting experience trying to order the food since Hellboy could practically eat half the restaurant on his own.

McDonald’s and fast food in general wasn’t a thing in Jo’s time so she stared down at her cheeseburger rather curiously and as much as she liked burgers, she wasn’t sure about this, “- well, I suppose there seems to be a lot of different options to try?” she tried, “if you want a different type of burger?”

As much as Guillermo did try to stay away from fast food, every now and then he did like to indulge and he definitely enjoyed a Big Mac, “well if you do want McDonald’s at least you don’t have to go far to find one?” he suggested with a grin. “They’re pretty accessible,”

“I do prefer homemade cooking to fast food, we don't really eat a lot of fast food back home,” Guillermo admitted, “but sometimes it can be fun to be able to indulge in every now and then,”

Was Kurt like most teenage boys who had a healthy appetite? Yes he was. Was he also a Mutant with added metabolism factors that made it so he almost always felt hungry to some degree? Also, yes. So he was quite familiar with McDonalds and other fast food options. The fact he lived and trained with the likes of Logan only made it all the more inevitable.

"Fast food like this is great to grab if you are heading out on a mission or in the middle of some big long stake out or multi-day mission and need something quick that you can eat on the go if needed" he pointed out with a grin.

"I think it's comforting in the way that, for me at least, it reminds me of times spent with my team mates?" Kurt offered. "And its comfort in a way where it keeps you from being hungry while on a mission...I think that can be a bit of a comfort in and of itself."
