designateddadfriend: (oh look a graceful exit)

Fandom Fire Station, Friday

"Look, ma'am," Travis said. He rubbed his forehead, then got lost for a little while in the satisfying sensation he got rubbing his very tired eyelids. Then remembered he was on the phone with the public and tried to snap his tired, tired brain back in gear. "Ma'am. I'm sorry, but I don't think I can send the aid car out just to drive you around the island in hopes it lulls you to sleep. Maybe try an uber on the mainland? . . . Okay, well, that's between you and your uber rating then. How about a rickshaw? . . . How the hell did you manage to get banned from the rickshaws? . . . Oh god, I didn't actually want to know."

He really hoped nothing caught fire before the island had its collective nap. At this rate he would probably just stare at the pretty pretty flames until he ended up a crispy cinder ala Looney Tunes.

Fandom Fire Station
Sleeplessness isn't a CO-poisoning symptom but maybe check your detectors anyway
You're up all night so you might as well, right?

The fire station was open.

Hannibal had not been caught by the sleeplessness, and was rather hoping someone at the fire station hadn't, either.

He came in and looked around, then headed for Travis, abandoning that hope. "Good afternoon, Mr. Montgomery."

"Not on fire, no," Hannibal assured him. "However one of them has flown up to the roof, and apparently forgotten they can fly. I was hoping you could help retrieve them before the noise of the rest of the flock becomes unendurable."

"It is, unfortunately, not a dream thing." Hannibal looked a little pained. "This particular flamingo is not the brightest. You do have a ladder?"
sharp_man: (Im worried about you)

"After the ladder, or the flamingo?" Hannibal asked. Neither seemed particularly useful.

Hannibal was beginning to see that.

"Maybe I should see if I can get my flight collar to work." He hadn't had a lot of experience with it, but theoretically it should do the job.

"I'll bring my phone, in case I should end up in a tree."

Stark had no idea why he'd walked to the fire station. Stark wasn't even aware he was walking to the fire station until he was standing in front of it. He'd used up most of his capacity for thinking this morning for classes and now he was just...wandering. Wandering and occasionally muttering to himself and sometimes humming.

Walking around the island just to walk wasn't anything new but he usually was aware of his surroundings. It was something of a miracle he hadn't fallen down (or up) any stairs yet. Or been attacked by wildlife.

But as long as he was here he might as well go inside, right? "I...hello."

"You can?" Don't tease the poor exhausted alien like that, Travis! He's fragile sometimes.

"I don't think you can. But maybe you could? I don't know. Don't know anything right now. I don't think there's any help to be had." Stark was fairly convinced he was never going to sleep again at this point.

Did Stark glance briefly upward even though he was all aware of that phrase and absolutely understood it? Yes. He was very tired.

"I...I don't know? Should I know? I was walking and then I was here and I don't remember getting here. I had class. Summer's class and my class and then I left and now I'm here."
stykera: (all too much)

Stark thought about that for a few beats too long. Questions were hard.

"I've been walking." For an indeterminate amount of time and Fandom was not the easiest terrain to wander around, especially when you felt half-dead from lack of sleep. But that wasn't an answer and he'd already said it besides.

"Yes," he said after another pause. "I would. I'm...I'm very tired. Very tired. You look tired."

Stark didn't sit in the offered chair so much as collapse into it.

"Sitting makes sense. I don't know why I kept walking." Probably because once he'd started his capacity for rational thought was already greatly diminished and the idea of stopping and resting hadn't even occurred to him. "Sitting is better."

"You can't sleep either? I can't sleep. Summer couldn't sleep. This is new. I think. I don't remember not sleeping like this just not sleeping well but that was different. This is different. Something's different? I don't know. Nothing makes sense. I should stop talking."
stykera: (huh?)

[personal profile] stykera 2022-05-14 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Wasn't I talking out loud?" Stark asked, looking faintly alarmed. "I...thought I was. Wasn't I?"

"I talk to myself. Sometimes. Or to...what's left. Of people. In my head. But I wasn't...I don't think. I don't know."
stykera: (head full of dead people)

"I don't feel fine," Stark said, sighing heavily. "Okay. Maybe I am. I don't know. Sometimes I'm not. Sometimes I don't know. I don't know anything right now."

That was probably obvious. Or maybe not, since Travis was just as sleep deprived.

"I still have your shirt," he added suddenly. As if that was in any way relevant to anything.
