For the record, Summer had absolutely allowed Apu to completely cover the store in red, white, and blue streamers and bunting and banners and stars that Monday. It certainly had nothing to do with the fact that she understood that trying to fight against Apu on a decorating spree was an exercise in futility and she was merely accepting her fate because she understood the cruel steamroller of inevitability.
"God," she realized, once she returned to the counter after her inventory walk and could look out across the store, "I'm honestly a little terrified of what this place is going to look like on the Fourth of July now."
She was going to follow that up with 'but that's not a Monday, so it's not my problem,' until she checked the calendar on her phone.
"Well, fuck."
