The Perk Wednesday

After another eventful shenanigans round, Dwight headed to The Perk for some extra caffeine.

Sure. He had his own coffee back at the shop. But it was nothing compared to the delightful mixes the baristas could whip together... Even if they were a bit on the overly sweet side usually.

And so Dwight sat by one of the windows looking out at the people walking past, a large dark chocolate mocha coffee in hand.


Post open and perk is of course open for all cafine related needs!

What Marc wanted was alcohol, but what was open in the afternoon was coffee. So there he was, possibly a glutton for punishment given that the day before he'd only mired himself even more into Steven's freaking soap opera of a love life, but there all the same.

Dwight gave a slight nod to Marc. "If you're looking for something strong, I highly recommend the mocha coffee. Unless you are more in the mood for super sweet, then there are plenty of options really."

And after a moment of consideration, trying to recall if he had met Marc yet or not, he offered. "I'm Dwight. You new in town?"

Marc put in an order for a regular coffee because he was mostly killing time and not in the mood for anything in particular.

"New enough," he replied to Dwight. "I'm Marc."

"Good to meet you, Marc" Dwight replied. "I am sure I am far from the first to say this, but welcome to the island."

"Going out on a limb that you're not new then?" Marc replied. Because he forgot that sometimes the polite thing to do is say thank you.

"New compared to most but not as new as some" Dwight said with a smirk. "I've been here for about a year now. What brings you to our tiny, quiet, odd little island?"

"The part that's odd," Marc said. "You?"

[alwaysonguard]

"Came to get away from a situation back home, looking to start somewhere new. And" Dwight said after a moment, "The odd is surprisingly what has kept me here. It's a calmer flavor of odd than back home to be honest."

Marc wasn't going to ask what the situation back home was since he certainly didn't want people asking about his. "Yeah, calmer than what I'm used to too."

Less blood anyway.

Calmer... less bloody... less insane.... less shooty and stabby... Yeah the island's insanity was all kind of relative.

"Glad to have ya in any case" Dwight said with a nod. "You getting settled in alright so far?"

"Could do without the drama but otherwise okay." Marc got his coffee from the barista and motioned towards Dwight's table to silently ask if Dwight was only making brief small talk or if Marc should take a seat.

"Welcome to if you want," Dwight said simply, leaving it up to Marc on that one.

Marc took a seat. "Thanks. I needed an alibi."

[alwaysonguard]

"Always good for an alibi," Dwight said with a lift of the coffee cup in his hand. "Who you you playing keep-away with, if you don't mind me asking?" He knew what that was like, seeing as he had been doing a bit of keep away with a certain someone as well.

Marc saluted with his coffee cup as well. "Said I was meeting new people. You're a new person, so that works out."

Marc had heard the actual question, he just decided to skip past it.

"Glad to be of service," Dwight said simply, not one at all to push.

"So what's your weird?" Marc asked, since he saw no reason to beat around the bush about it.

[alwaysonguard]

Ah yeas. There it was, the Trouble tightrope walk.

"For me specifically, it's a rather bothersome issue of being... essentially... a bullet magnet, which yes is pretty much just what it sounds like," Dwight said, watching Marc to see if he reacted how most people did to that revelation.

Marc titled his head thoughtfully. "Bullet magnet could mean a few things. Way you say it I'm guessing it's not on purpose."

[alwaysonguard]

"Basically any gun goes off within 300ft or so of me, the bullet will do a u-turn and head straight for me," Dwight said. "And its kind a thing back home. Lots of people have these abilities... we call them Troubles."

There was a word Marc recognized. Granted he knew it thanks to Steven. "Troubles? You're related to Duke?"

[alwaysonguard]

"Not related per say, but Duke and I are from the same world. Different time line it seems but yeah. We both have our own experiences with the Troubles back home."

[hasaknightjob]

"You're not dead," Marc said. "So do you also heal?"

He did after all, wasn't far fetched.

"Ah unfortunately no, my Trouble didn't come with any handy positive spin," Dwight said with a dry laugh. "The fact I'm alive is down to dumb luck and the fact that back home I always wore a flack-vest."

"Guess that tells me how often guns get fired around here too," Marc said. "No wonder you like the move."
