Fix and Clean Shop- Saturday
It was a busy morning for Dwight. Several deliveries had been made the last few days, some of them quite large, and there were boxes stacked around the shop that still needed to be unpacked, added to inventory, and then set out. Most of it was odds and ends he needed around the shop, but there was some new hardware and accessories out in case anyone needed something for a quick and easy project. There was also a new shelving unit to put together and a stack of wood in the back storage room that needed to be organized still.
And so, with the morning run behind him, and a cup of coffee on the counter already half empty, Dwight got to work on trying to figure out the shelf. It wasn't anything special, and sure he could have just made a shelf himself, but he didn't need anything flashy or fancy and wanted to save the good wood for actual projects. So there he was, in the middle of the shop, a bunch of boards and screws and poles spread out around him as he stared a the sheet of instructions in his hand.
"Put pole A2 into the hole marked B1 on the shelf and secure with peg I2...." Dwight looked at the stuff littered around him and sighed, rubbing his head. Maybe it would have been easier to just have made the shelf himself....

"Oh! Good!" said Summer, as the rest of her followed her head in coming into the shop. "You're in!"
And then she considered the mess of materials.
"Busy?" she asked, quirking a brow.

IKEAdesign!"Dwight put the instructions down and stood up, giving his attention to Summer fully.
"How have you been? What brings you by today?"

And here she was looking over the assortment of to-be-shelf shrapnel with a certain level of newfound, unspoken doubt about such pursuits...

Dwight gave a nod towards the counter behind them as he walked over and reached behind the counter.
"Got it all ready for you and Pancakes here. Got a play area and then a nice separate sleeping area as well that you should be able to set up in any area of the ship you want."

Summer was, however, properly distracted by an actual final product, which she wasn't expecting, really. She'd shown up expecting to do some light ball-busting, but this was great.
"Oooooooooh!" she gushed with approval. "She is going to totally love ignoring that this whole thing exists!"

"Heh yeah, typical cat... Would probably prefer the boxes the materials came in over this" Dwight said with a slight laugh. "Hopefully she enjoys is when she decides to use it."

She moved over to give the structure a closer look before asking, "Is it pretty much good to go? I was going to do some ship maintenance later, might as well go ahead and get it installed while I'm at it, too."

"Maybe by then," she threw Dwight a grin, "you'll even have made progress on that..."
A glance toward the scattered bits and pieces.
"...whatever it's supposed to be."

And decided to go with what she assumed was a far more safer topic, given the genuine innocence and casualness in which it was asked, "Why not get Amaya to help?"

There was maybe a slight squint before she said, "Yeah, you're probably right. She'd probably just wind up trying to add a bunch of spikes to it, anyway, and that just sounds dangerous."

There was one bad side to listening to radio. Certain things were hard to ignore or pretend were not happening.

Movie Nights. Routine Maintenance. Business Partners. Special Visits?
This woman seriously need to pick a euphemism and stick with it.
But not that last one, that last one was terrible.

Summer took a moment, thinking back to when the last conversation she'd had with Dwight about the blacksmith in question actually was, and she wasn't really sure, but she'd been picking up a slightly different vibe to the discussion back them.
And there was definitely something in the way he said it that was definitely catching her attention.
The slight squint was back when she looked at him.
"....when was the last time you spoke?" she ventured.

"We evidently eloped and got married. Woke up together the next day. All that had happened that week, gone. All the feelings gone... on her end at least" he added with a somewhat pained expression. "And...well... she didn't react too well to it at all."
Understatement of the year there Dwight. But didnt seem like there was any reason to rehash all those painful memories and feelings unnecessarily.

How did this even slip her radar???
Well, okay, she was too busy dating the whole town at the time, she couldn't really be too mad at herself for that one.
And she might have said something else, poked in a little deeper, rooting around in the drama like a pig hunting for truffles, if it weren't for the look on Dwight's face matched with that 'on her end at least.'
"Ooooooof," was all that was left that could be said, with a slight wince, "that's rough, dude."

"Better for her too. Amaya doesn't need all my baggage. She deserve to be happy and if that comes from Irene then I am happy for them both." Because truly he was, it was just still a bit...fresh.
no subject
"Uh-huh," said Summer, definitely convinced, totally believing that, for suuuu-uuu-uuure.
"And what about you being happy?"

And then:
"That's, like, four people, that's not even a good sample size."

"I could help you out with the shelf, if you wanted," she offered.
Since that was what started this particular tangent and whatnot.
