Graham wasn't sure if it was just him or what, but he felt like there was something a little different in the air in the shop that day, one that made him feel a little sad and upset, though he didn't know why. It definitely made him feel like he should have brought Triumph in with him today; that guy could always cheer up a room! And Saffron didn't seem that interested in talking about it (Saffron, in general, did not seem very interested in Graham), but Little Bot seemed very encouraging and positive about the whole thing.

(He thought, anyway. He definitely was not fluent in Robot like he was in most varieties of Animal).

But he did know he wasn't going to let the strange mood affect his game night, so, instead of worrying about it too much, he threw himself into a little bit of prep and planning and some hopefully good things to throw at the group as their adventure continued!

The Magpie Emporium is open!

"I am," Jo smiled rather shyly, "and so is Deidre," she added, "I brought some more chocolates," she said as she reached out the box to give to him.

"Your humble GM," Graham said, squaring his shoulders for a moment before ducking his head in a bow, complete with a cordial tip of his hat to the lady, before taking the box of chocolates from Jo, "gratefully accepts this most excellent offering of confectionaries of the chocolate variety and is looking forward to consuming them with great gusto and satisfaction! And, as a token of appreciation for such considerable contributions to the feeding of our bellies while we simultaneously feed our imaginations....I would also like to humbly bestow upon you a gift in exchange!"

All that highly esteemed courtly manners dropped into an eager sort of grin as Graham fished out of his cloak a braided, beaded bracelet from his arts and crafts class, this one with an alternating series of brown and pink and red beads, and handed it out toward Jo, settled on his palm.

He had to admit, hers was probably the hardest for him to come up with, since he still didn't know much about Jo or her character, but the brown made him think of the chocolates and the pink just seemed a nice feminine color that seemed to suit her style, and red was just generally kind of sorcerer-y, if you asked him.

Jo found herself going rather red, trying to not think of just how much her mother was going to disapprove of accepting a bracelet from a boy that she wasn’t even courting.

“I … th-thank you?” It came out more than a question than she intended as she reached over the accept the bracelet. “No one has ...um ... ever given me anything before,” she admitted.

Only her relatives had ever given her gifts, it wasn’t the same thing as she had found out.

"....Really?" asked Graham, blinking at Jo a little bit in a moment of genuine shock, slightly taken aback by the news. After all, even he'd been given things before, and he didn't even really have any friends before now! Well, except the woodland creatures, and sometimes they even brought him nuts and feathers and small bits of string at times... "Nothing ever?"

And then, unable to help himself and thinking himself very funny for thinking it, he asked, "Not even....a smile?"

Which, yes, meant he was now drumming up the biggest, broadest, potentially cheesiest smile he could to flash at Jo just then.

"Well maybe once or twice," Jo admitted, smiling at how big Graham's smile was, "I didn't have many friends at my other school," there was a pause, "I only had one friend actually, her name's Deidre,"

Who her character happened to be named after.

Wow, Jo, way to just instantly melt a poor guy.

"Awwwwww!" Graham realized, with an eagerness that could only come with such an exciting reveal of character development and lore. "And that's your character's name!"

See? He made the connection!

“It is,” Jo smiled brightly, part of it had been because she couldn’t think of any other name for her character but Deirdre being her first friend had made her go with the name as well, “I did like the idea of naming my character after her,” she added shyly.

"I think that's a great idea!" said Graham. "I bet she'd love it if she found out, in another world, she was a fierce sorcerer on an exciting journey!"

Granted, that was definitely going to make Graham feel absolutely terrible if Jo's character ended up dying in the game at some point, but he would have to cross that bridge if they came to it!

“I’m going to tell Deirdre next time I write to her,” Jo smiled at that, not realising that her character could end up dying in the game, “I don’t think she’ll quite understand what the game is but I think she’d like it if she knew I’d name my character after hers “
