The Devil's Nest, Tuesday Night

It was a nice night. Not much to foul the air. Bar, perhaps, Lucifer Morningstar's occasional bad habit of wallowing, but that one was an easy fix: the Devil simply had to take to the piano.

"Whenever I'm alone with you, you make me feel like I am home again..."

It was a good kind of wallowing, this.

"I guess I just... never actually really thought I'd make it that far."

"That... far?"

"To fifty."

Octavia's therapy had felt like progress, today. Unsteady, complicated progress, the kind that stuck in her brain afterwards, slithering around all through the following swim and the whole rest of the day too, but progress nonetheless.

She showed up fairly late. And listening to Lucifer play, she slipped behind the bar to fix herself a drink.

Lucifer's fingers danced over the keys as he got himself lost in the song. A glass of red sat on the edge of the piano.

He hadn't noticed her, not yet.

"Always seemed like more of a fantasy. Growing old."

"And why do you think that is?"

Octavia made herself a Jack Rose (though a little light on the jack), and poured some whiskey in another glass. Then she began to slowly make her way towards the piano.

"No one else ever seemed to make it, so why would I?"

Lucifer took his glass from the piano during a quiet spell. Took a sip, while his other hand kept moving.

He stared out past the lights. Still lost in the song.

"But there were people who were... older, weren't there? Around you, when you were -- well, not growing up, but on the Ground. And... in the bunker."

"Mm."

"Can you name some for me?"

Octavia drifted closer slowly. She might've crossed the distance quicker, only she didn't want to intrude on his moment. Or maybe she just wanted the chance to spy on him like this.

"Indra."

So skillful, so... in it.

"Abby."

But she was still coming closer.

"And Kane."

And then she was there, by the piano, quietly sliding the whiskey where the wine had been.

In time for him to finish the song with a flourish or two, his fingers moving swiftly, rhytmically.

"Love my way, it's a new road," Lucifer hummed faintly, as the music fell away, and he looked up at her face.

"Brought you a drink," Octavia told him, as if he hadn't already seen. "Though of course you already had one."

"Thank you," Lucifer said anyway, with a smile, and reached for the drink she had brought him.

It was just whiskey. The cocktail, she was keeping for herself.

Don't read too much into it.

"You wanna take a little break?"

"I wouldn't be opposed," Lucifer said. He took a sip. "I'd been waiting for you. I'd hoped a bit that Duke might come 'round, as well..."

Octavia gave a tiny, soft snort.

"You know you can just text us to come over if you miss us, right?"

"But then where's the surprise?" Lucifer said, mouth curving a bit. First a big smile, then a smaller one. "He does love his new wave."

Octavia's smile was similarly on the smaller side.

"I know, he does."

It had been a complicated and confusing morning... In several ways actually. None the which had to do with the last few stubborn pieces rabbit hair he brushed off his shirt as he approached the Devil's Nest.

He needed a drink, and he wasnt overly particular about what drink it was. And so he walked in, took a seat at the bar, and ordered a drink.

Tiny pushed his drink across the bar and picked up another glass to wash, his eyes darting from Dwight to Lucifer behind the piano, and back.

He dunked the dirty glass into the soapy water after that, ignoring Dwight.

Dwight gave Tiny a nod and started on the drink, glancing back to where Lucifer was tickling the ivory so to speak. When there was a break in the music Dwight gave an approving nod towards Lucifer and a lift of the glass in his hand.

Lucifer rose from the piano, fixing the buttons of his jacket as he did. He turned towards Dwight.

"Well, if it isn't the old lumberjack," he said, pacing towards him. "Needed a bit of an alcoholic break, did we?"

"It's been an... interesting day let's just put it that way," Dwight said with a dry laugh and another drink from the glass. "How are things going for the devil himself nowadays?"

"Well, I'm hoping to finally open my new club on Friday," Lucifer offered. "It's been long enough."

There, that was a safe topic.

"Oh good, I know that has been quite the process for you" Dwight said lifting the glass a bit. "Here's to a successful grand opening!"

"Indeed!" Lucifer said, lifting his drink in turn. "So what made today so interesting? And don't say 'you', I'm already aware I'm likely the highlight of your day."

"Oh well no argument there" Dwight said with a laugh, and then turned his attention back to the drink for a moment. "I had been taking care of a certain rabbit-shaped blacksmith the last few days. And well, today she decided to be less rabbit and more person shaped."

There was not much in the way of a non-awkward de-animalification when it involved two idiots like Blackstone and Hendrickson .

"Naked, was she?"

"As a JayBird" Dwight said with a sigh. Wasn't anything he hadn't seen before... but still.. "And it was Amaya. That made things... complicated right from the start."

"Ah, yes," Lucifer said. Paused. Then said, "No, actually, I'm a bit fuzzy on the 'the naked woman was complicated' thing."
