Monday: Covent Garden Flowers

Nell had a lot to think about today. She had moved some of her plants here and was deciding which ones she would temporarily move to Marc and Steven's. It was not at all what she'd planned, but she had to admit it would make things easier for her.

Still, the whole thing couldn't help but remind her that she didn't have the option of going home. But there was nothing more she could do about that, so she just needed to set it aside for a while. It's not as if she didn't like Fandom afterall.

The flowers seemed to understand her mood and hummed quietly melancholy tunes as she worked.

As Liz had promised last week, she came back round to visit Nell and she was reasonably confident that she had picked what herbs she would like to try and grow. She also had her camera with her to document the stages as well like she had done last week.

“Hi,” she said with a smile as she approached.

"Hi, Liz," Nell said with a smile. "How are your plants doing?"

“They’re doing really well,” Liz smiled as she brought up the photos to show Nell how they were going, “Rain hasn’t even knocked them over yet,” she paused, “Rain’s my cat,” she added just in case she hadn’t told Nell about her cat.

"Oh those are coming along very nicely," Nell said cheerfully. "I don't think you did tell me about your cat, but I did specifically make sure your plants were safe for animals and humans."

“I think Rain’s mostly curious about them,” Liz considered as there were also a few photos of Rain with the plants as well, “but I haven’t had too much difficulty in looking after them,” she added.

"Most plants, especially house plants, aren't as hard to take care of as people think. Some sun, some water, a few kind words, and they'll grow wonderfully for you." She smiled at Liz. "And I gave them a little boost to help them grow."

Liz smiled, “it’s definitely been nice looking after them,” she said with a smile, “and being able to see the progress that they make as they grow,”

"I find that just having growing things in my house makes me happy."

"I can definitely understand that," Liz nodded and paused for a moment, "I think depending on how these flowers do, I would like to try and grow some more," she added.

"Excellent idea," Nell said. "And in the spring you can make a vegetable garden."

Liz smiled at that, “I do like the sound of that, in the spring my daughter will be here, I think that will be a nice project to work on,”

She might be too tired to do much gardening, but since it looked like Nell would still be here she'd be glad to help.

"And when your daughter is older you can garden together."

“That would be nice,” Liz smiled, not factoring in just how busy she was going to be with a newborn so she would definitely be grateful for any help, “especially if she was able to learn how to garden early on, she might find that she does enjoy gardening,”

"She might," Nell agreed. "And I always think it's good for children to be brought up close to nature whenever possible."

“I would like that, I didn’t really get to grow up near a lot of nature,” Liz considered, "I think growing up close to nature would be good for her,"

"At least there's lots of it on the island," Nell said. "Easy to get out into it."

Lana strolled in and waved. "Hello! How are you today?" She caught a bit of the aura of the place. "Is everything all right?"

Nell smiled at her. "I'm fine. Just thinking about home. How are you, Lana?"

Lana smiled back. "Much the same. I'm heading back between class terms. How would you like to come with me?"

"You're going home?" Nell said curiously. "I, yes, I'd like that very much! Are you sure I won't be a problem, though?"

"Only for the week. And of course you won't be!" Lana said. "I'd love to show you around. You can see what the plants on Odessen are like," she added with a smile.

New plants! Alien plants!

"Oh, I'd like that very much!" Nell said. "It's very kind of you to offer to take me along!"

"Of course!" Lana smiled. "I hope you'll enjoy it. Is there a day you need to be back here by?"

That struck a bit of a chord. "No, as it turns out. I... Portalocity still can't find a way to get me home, so I'll be staying here in Fandom."

She managed a small smile. "Steven and Marc have kindly offered to let me stay with them until I can move into my apartment in September, so as long as they don't mind me moving my things in over this weekend... I'm very free."

Lana smiled back. "I do know you worry about your sisters, but I can't say I'll be sorry to have you around longer. Oh, and I've invited Steven and Marc along as well next week, but I haven't heard back from them yet. So you may have other people you know there, too."

"That would be nice," Nell said. "But if not, at least I'll know you. And get toe xplore new plantlife!"

"There's quite a bit," Lana said. "Oh, and there's a creature called a makrin - they take on the camouflage and attributes of local plants; there are some that have adapted to Odessen."

She waved it off. "But that can all wait; I don't want to overwhelm you before you even get there."

"When are we going?" Nell asked. "And is there anything in particular I should bring?"

"Sunday, I think," Lana said. "Bring whatever you like, but I can't think of anything you'll need."

[mylandmyrules]

"I'm moving into Marc and Steven's apartment Sunday," Nell said, "but if it's late enough in the day it shouldn't be a problem, I guess."

Lana nodded. "I can make sure the portal is later in the day, then. I don't have any set schedule; somehow I suspect the Commander can manage a few more hours without me. Do you need any help moving in?"

"I think we'll be fine," Nell said. "I bartered with one of the rickshaw drivers to bring my plants over and I don't have much personal stuff otherwise. Just a couple of bags."
