The Photo Hut - Tuesday

The morning had been hard but she had managed to go to the church and she was grateful that Steven could be there with her while she was there.

She had considered not coming into work today and going straight back to her room but since she was having trouble focusing but she did still have some paperwork to finish off from last week and she wanted to try and get that done.

So she was trying to finish off the last of the admin work she had to do from the last couple of weeks, it was taking her a while to finish it but it was helping her from thinking about the anniversary too much.

Nell stopped by with her promised cake. "Hey, Liz."

She didn't ask how Liz was doing, she already had a pretty good idea how that was going.

"Hi Nell," Liz said, wishing she had a lot more energy than what she did, "thank you for coming by," she said softly.

"You're welcome," Nell said. "I couldn't make church this morning, but I did bake a cake for you. I hope you like it."

"That's okay," Liz told her softly, "I - thank you for the cake, it does look really good," she said, "I ... I have knives and forks upstairs, I could go and get some if you'd like a piece?" she offered.

"I'd be happy to share a piece with you if you'd like," Nell said with a smile. "Maybe you could tell me about them."

Liz gave a small tired smile at that and she quickly left to head upstairs to get the necessary plates and utensils for the cake, she brought them back downstairs, cutting a piece for Nell and handing the plate and fork towards her.

“I …it’s hard sometimes,” Liz admitted, “my relationship with my parents is ... complicated,” she said softly as she cut herself a piece, “but I do have some happy memories with them, it was mostly me and my brother David growing up,”

"Then tell me about a happy memory,"Nell suggested.

“Watching Space Battles with my family,” Liz said quietly, “we used to watch the movies all the time when I was growing up before the … before everything happened, my parents took us to to see the second one in the cinema when it was released,” she paused, "the one that came out in 1980, not episode 11," she clarified, just in case Nell didn't know about Space Battles.

The Space Battles movies were still her favourite to this day, it was one of the reasons she had loved getting to watch them with Prompto.

Nell didn't know anything about movies, but that wasn't important. "Sounds like you all had fun watching them together," she said.

"We did," Liz said with a small smile as she did remember some of the more simpler memories she had of her childhood, "my brother and I used to play Space Battles all the time, when I wasn't busy taking photos ... " she said softly.

"Good memories to hang onto," Nell said fondly.

“They are,” Liz said softly and took a bite of her cake, “this is really good, thank you,” she said, managing a tired smile as she took another bite.

"You're welcome." Nell held up a forkful of cake. "To your family. May the good memories of them bring you solace."

Liz bowed her head as Nell gave a toast to her family, "thank you," she said softly when she was finished.

Nell smiled at her gently, "Tomorrow will be easier."

Liz could only nod at that, "I - I hope so, I ... I'm so tired," she said softly.

"Drink a cup of my tea before bed," Nell said. "That will encourage good sleep, but I think you've tired yourself out and the relief of the day being over will help too."
