The Magpie Emporium; Friday, 09/09.

Reporting on Steph's intentions to rearrange the comics on the radio that morning had Graham a little more curious about that aspect of the Emporium himself, which was a dangerous venture, because he was very easily distracted, and comics were, for the most part, very interesting, and what started as just a few cursory flips through a few pages to see what this one or that one were all about lead to Graham being all too easily sucked into practically blowing through most of them cover to cover without even realizing it and without even realizing that, by doing so, he wasn't really getting a whole lot of work done.

Not that there was much work, of course, but still!

He would definitely make the argument, though, that this was sort of work. Product knowledge was important! And he clearly had a lot to catch up on in this world, so it was just...professional research! Yeah! That was it!

And next week, he was definitely going to have to bring in Triumph for a professional research day, too, because, oh man, he would love some of these comics, and he was honestly feeling a little sad that he hadn't brought his trusty steed with him that day, because new experiences were always best when shared with a friend.

It might be just recommending all of them, but, technically speaking, that's still a recommendation!

Because he'd gotten so sucked into the comic books, Graham lost track of time a little, and all the prep work he was hoping to do for tonight's game was pretty much being squeezed into the hour right before everyone was set to arrive for this week's game. Which was fine! He worked well under pressure! He wasn't internally flailing, really! Hahaha, nope, not this guy!

Prepared or not, the snacks had been distributed, the pre-game chatter had been chatted, and now, it was time to settle in and see if they could finally managed to reach a conclusion to their epicly chaotic failed night on the town and see what awaited them beyond the sticky-fingered goblins and hopefully not the ashes of this fine drinking establishment.

"Where we left off last week," Graham started in, leaning forward and lowering his voice a little into that dramatic, narrative timber, holding up his hands to reset the scene once more, "the pursuit of the goblins attempting to take advantage of the performance of Montague Silverchord to find a few ill-gotten games was doubly thwarted: first, by the upstanding group of excellent grapplers that they mistakenly targeted as potential victims, and by a sudden, intense fire that seemed to have leaped up out of nowhere, surrounding the tavern and consuming it hungrily....albeit slowly!...while chaos reigned. Needless to say, the show was definitely over, and, in an effort to mitigate the destruction, our would-be heroes were doing a little bit of mitigation on controlling the damage.

"We ended with Deirdre's turn," he gave a nod toward Jo, "and what she might be doing with the goblin who gave her that pesky little stab. Who, if I recall correctly," he honestly, at this point, had sort of lost track of what goblins were doing what and where, but, hey, he was the DM, he could just flow with it and blame the fire chaos for any missteps, unless anyone called him out on it or kindly reminded him otherwise, "is still nearby, but you better believe he's thinking of hightailing it out of there as soon as he can. By now, some people are starting to get a control on the fire, but it's a big one, and the attention has definitely shifted as a whole to just getting to safety for most people, including the would-be thieves.""

Jo had her usual boxes of sweets and chocolates as she turned up for this week's session, “hello,” she smiled as she arrived, looking forward to the evening.

Jo considered her response, “ Deirdre decides that she wants to try and help and she looks around for anyone who might need help getting to safety," she paused, "she hasn't forgotten about the goblin though and as she moves to help, she does still keep a careful watch out for him for what he might try and do in the chaos,"

"Hey, there, Jo!" Graham looked up from his scattered notes to meet her with a grin and a wave of his hand, and the slight thrum of panic that went with being unprepared for tonight's game thanks to comics distraction. But he wasn't going to let it show, if he could help it! "How's it going?"

Graham nodded a little at this, considering it carefully, before deciding, "As you look around, it doesn't take long to notice that most people, actually, are pretty much well on their way to safety by now; the only people lingering seem to be the ones attempting to put out the fires, which means as soon as you take a moment to take it all in, someone's shoving a bucket--thankfully filled with water!--into your hands, and the goblin is definitely attempting to take your distraction as an opportunity to flee for himself...

"Only," Graham couldn't help adding with a chuckle, "to have a bucket shoved into his hands, too! Looks like he's been conscripted into the rescue effort as well! Anything else for Deirdre, or is she going to pretty much go with the flow for now?"

"Not to bad thank you," Jo smiled, "at least this week seems to have been a lot quieter than last week, there weren't any fires in the library today,"

Jo smiled at that last bit, "I think Deirdre is going to go with the flow for now and keep doing her best to help," she nodded.

"Well, of course not," Graham couldn't help chuckling as he remembered his radio report, "I'd think all the rain showers that were there yesterday would have put them all out! Did you have to deal with any of those? The notes this morning said Belle had to deal with it raining on some of the bookshelves."

"And so," Graham pronounced, "while Deirdre and her fateful stabber find themselves unexpected allies against the flames, our attention turns to the last but certainly not least of mighty perhaps-heroes, Guillermo the Great! Does our mysterious vampire have anything in store for us before we move onto the aftermath of this fateful fire and see what may lie ahead in the smoke and ashes?"

This week Guillermo’s pie making adventures had resulted in him making a blueberry pie, he also had his usual empanadas but this week he had also decided to make some churros as well.

“Hi,” he smiled brightly as he arrived carrying his usual large containers of food.

Guillermo grinned at that, “Guillermo has definitely been trying to keep away from the fires, he doesn’t really like fire that much and is not eager to try and help, he is rather nervous and he looks around, wondering if it's possible he can make it to the exit without getting caught up in helping to put out the fires,"

"I didn't have to deal with anything like that today," Jo told him, "it was actually really quiet in the library," she paused, "which I suppose is actually normal since libraries are supposed to be quiet?" she considered, "I was able to get some homework done though,"

"Guillermo," Graham greeted him back, his attention almost immediately failing at any attempt to not be too immediately drawn in with focused intrigue toward those containers, eager to see what sorts of delicious treasures would be bestowed upon them that day, but trying to be at least a little chill about it. "Welcome. And how has your Friday been?"

Graham looked like he was about to say something to allow such an escape, and then seemed to have thought better of it, stopping himself in the middle of opening his mouth and then pulling back with his hand to his chin more thoughtfully.

"You know what?" he decided, leaning in a little as he narrowed his eyes speculatively at Guillermo. "Go ahead and roll a stealth check for me."

Best to let the dice decide!

Guillermo grinned, eager for the chance to use his new dice and threw it.

It landed on a 9, he was slightly disappointed but at it least it was better than some of his other throws, “I’m guessing that would be a fail on the stealth check right?”

Guillermo grinned, "it's been pretty good," he told him as he placed down his containers of food, "I was able to get a fair bit of cooking done today, so that was nice, I ... I made a blueberry pie this week if you'd like to try it," he added shyly.

By delicious coincidence, Vi had run into the cart selling the hot jam filled doughnuts on the way over, and came in juggling a large steaming paper bag.

"Well, that's good!" said Graham. "What kind of homework did you have? Anything exciting?"

"Oooooooooh!" said Graham, by way of greeting. "That looks promising!"

In Graham's experience, large steaming paper bags could really go 50/50, but, considering the context, he had pretty high hopes for this one.

"If I'd like to try it!" Graham repeated, with a sort of teasing scoff and a voice that didn't get anywhere near the playfully offended tone it was going for. "Guillermo. Have you ever known me to meet a pie I didn't want to try? Especially if it's one made by your very capable hands?"
