"On the other side, being public about who you are means you don't have to worry about tripping yourself up, or revealing your identity, and if you're the type who likes accolades, there you go. In my case, I went with a code name and a mask for a long time, until I got pulled back in and our team leader thought I would be the nice, friendly face of mutants so if people could please be a lot less racist about us. So I went public with my name, and it's been easier there... till I had my daughter, who people could make a reasonable assumption is also a mutant. And now any information I put out is also information about her, so I have to be so much more careful now.

He grimaced.

"Oh. That's why."

Steph was just gonna sit here and look utterly betrayed at Kitty.

What are the pluses and minuses here? What do you do? What would you do?

Steven did not try the Malort because he was currently nursing a strong cup of coffee and he suspected anything alcohol related would not help him with how tired he felt. He tried focusing on the discussion instead.

"Don't really have secret heroes where I'm from," Steven said, trying not to give away that he glanced in Steve's direction ~~if he was in class today~~. "First one we had sort of bragged about it, really. Then they were all over the news and magazine covers and the like. If there are secret heroes, well, they're so secret I've not heard of them. Suppose that means either there aren't any or they're rather good at keeping mum."

"Technically, I was the first superhero we had, if our universes intersect," Steve Rogers, self-appointed president of the Tony Stark Defense League, said. "And I was on the news and magazine covers--and movies, and comics--to increase morale and war bonds sales so we didn't lose World War II to the Nazis and HYDRA." He smiled. "Tony came after that."

"Not sure how similar our worlds are," Steven admitted, since he'd learned that lesson the hard way. "Don't want to assume. World War Two isn't my area of expertise either, I'll be honest."

Could Steven qualify this more? Maybe not but he was worried about accidentally causing offense. "But still. If that's true for both of our worlds then it's the same point, isn't it? No secrets about it. Right out the gate with telling everyone who's a superhero. No worries about who knows."

"I think the superhero names are hilarious, personally," Anakin admitted. "We're just our regular names at home, wearing regular clothing."

"It's a cape," Jane pointed out. You know. Helpfully.

"Mine or yours?" Anakin asked, grinning. "Mine is a robe."
