Community Center Class: Practical Woodworking for Beginners

The class would have received a handwaved message on their phones that morning to meet at his shop rather than the community center. Dwight greeted them when they arrived as he stood in front of the class again that morning, this time with pieces of lumber and tools and gear set out for each of them.

"Today we start diving into the basics with some hands-on work. But first, there is one final thing we have to discuss before we get into the nitty gritty of learning woodworking. And that is knowing how to do it safely! So, let's get through this last little 'boring' bit, and then we can get into the fun stuff!"

Rosa actually showed up to the class late, probably right around the middle of the lecture.

"Sorry," she said. "Traffic was brutal."

You know, all that traffic. On the island without cars. When she lived literally next door.

Yeah, she thought she was hilarious, but once she saw that the class was being moved to the shop that day, she really couldn't help herself.

Boy, did Amaya ever know the importance of the safety lesson, being a big proponent of it herself, but she had to admit, she was feeling terribly distracted right now, not to mention pretty tired, to boot, thanks to an ermine who seemed to have been finding increasingly clever ways to defy Amaya's attempts at some modicum of privacy while she was there. In her current form, Irene seemed to take Amaya's insistence that ermines remained out of the bedroom as a personal challenge.

Which, really, shouldn't be surprising, she was pretty sure Irene in her normal form would have done precisely that, too. But Amaya'd already eschewed so many of her usual rules about certain things these days that she was going to firmly cling to what few she still had, even if it meant spending half her night unceremoniously trying to boot out a weasel.

Who was no doubt using Amaya's time away right now for this class to effectively commandeer the bedroom yet again.

Awww, a shoe rack? More like buffet table for her dumb dog!

...Rosa was definitely going to be working on that shoe rack, thanks. She couldn't wait for Anna to slobber all over it and the shoes that would eventually sit on it.

Alara didn't really need a shoe rack but working on a blanket ladder could be an interesting project to work on, "I think I'll make the blanket ladder," she decided.
