Fandom Museum- Monday

Connor showed up that morning, arms full of folders and a couple of small boxes. He gave a sigh of relief when he got in and saw there was no to-do list from Blathers and no new folders to read through. This was good. He had things to work on.

Setting down the boxes and folders, Connor began unloading the pieces of tech he had brought back from the apartment. Once they were all set out he started on the somewhat daunting task of organizing the random papers in the folders.

If anyone needed him, Connor was at the front desk.

Cutter knew there was a school trip coming up and he wasn’t normally one to take holidays or anything like that but he did want to check in with Connor … he had been getting a lot of messages from his Connor and that reminded him about the trip and he thought maybe having someone he did actually know there would make it okay.

“Hey,” he said as he walked up to the front desk and then noticed all the folders there seemed to be, “I can come back if you would prefer?”

Connor looked up and then glanced around at the mess of papers. He gave a slightly crooked grin and shook his head.

"Naww it's alright. Just a little research and all. It's good to see ya Professor, what's up?"

“Same here,” Cutter did smile at that, shifting his focus back to Connor and tried to not feel completely awkward, “so … I was wondering if you had any plans over the break next week?”

"Was just gonna be hanging out at the apartment mostly. No real plans." Connor gave a small nod to Cutter. "You got plans?"

"Actually I do," Cutter said with a small smile at actually having plans that didn't involve research or lesson plans, "I don't know if you're aware the school does a fall break trip?" he paused, "apparently this year we're going on a French River Cruise?" there was another pause, "and teacher's can take a guest, I was wondering if you'd like to go with me?"

"Aye, I knew the school had something going on for the break," Connor said looking from the papers on the desk up to his friend and mentor. "I'd love to tag along if you are sure you don't want to take someone else..."

As unaccustomed as Cutter might be to the idea of a vacation, Connor was just as unaccustomed to the idea of being invited along for that sort of thing.

“I’m quite sure,” Cutter assured him, wishing he wasn’t so awkward at this, “I don’t really know anyone else to take,” he admitted, “and I’d rather there be someone I know on the trip,”

He would have probably still gone anyway since it was a free trip to France but he knew he’d feel better about going if Connor was there as well.

"Yeah, I'd love to tag along," Connor said with a grin. "I mean, a free trip to France? Think either one of us would be crazy to turn that down" he added with a laugh.

And if he had found our Cutter was going some other way he would have been trying to find a way to tag along anyways. A week or so on the other side of the pond was a bit of a way away. And Connor still wanted to keep close tabs on things. So, it really worked out quite nicely.

“I was thinking along the same lines,” Cutter admitted, “there are worse places to be than a week in France, besides Lester can’t complain about any additional costs that way,” he added with a grin, not that that was going to stop him from using his credit card and charging the British government for his expenses anyway.

He paused, “I’ve never really spent much time in France,” he admitted.

Most of his travelling had been limited to England and Scotland and of course wherever the anomalies decided to send them.

"Aye. Though that reminds me. I should start bugging my Lester and see if I can't get one of those cards too!"

Don't get your hopes up there too much Connor, buddy

"And yeah it's going to be a blast. I've never seen France. Folks went a time or two I think... but I always fot left behind."

“You’ll have to let me know what he says,” Cutter grinned, since he knew his Lester was already regretting giving him access to that credit card, he didn’t see it going well for Connor.

“Helen and I went to Paris a couple of times,” he revealed, “work related mostly, though we did spend some time there while we were in college,”

He was pretty sure Connor did not want to know the specific details of those trips. They had happened in much happier times.

Specifics no...not really. But the mention of Helen's name and the revelation she had been with Cutter before to the place they were going... Well, that only further solidified in Connor's mind that he was going to keep an eye on Cutter.

"I'm looking forward to it for sure! Will have to stop by the animal shelter and set up things for Rexy while were gone. But that's nothing too difficult."

"That's probably not a bad idea," Cutter considered, "even if Rex would probably enjoy a French River Cruise, it's be safer for him to stay behind,"

"Yeah.... I dont fancy chasing after him along the streets if he decided to go get some flying practice in," Connor said with a laugh.

"So, I'll get things packed and ready. Thanks again for the invite!" Connor went quiet for a moment then looked at Cutter. "Do ya think they would mind if I brought the Anamoly Dedtection Device and the Dating Calculator?"

“You’re welcome, thanks for accepting,” Cutter was just relieved there was going to be somebody he knew on the trip and then he paused, looking rather interested when Connor mentioned the Anomaly Detection Device, “you brought the Anomaly Detection Device? My Connor’s still working on it, he’s hoping to make it more compact,” he revealed.

"Yeah, brought the ADD and a few others. All early prototypes and versions and whatnot..." Connor gave a nod towards the box on the desk. "Lester wouldn't let the current models out of his sight" Connor added with a laugh.

"I thought might as well bring them. Give me something to tinker with. And now that I know they use portals round here the way they do, I am glad I did!"

Connor gave a small smile as he continued. "Michael and I are going to work on making some tweaks and adjustments to them, see if we can hone them in a bit so they work for Fandom portals. See if it can help him figure out how to get back home possibly."

Cutter nodded, “I would have liked to have seen Lester’s reaction to you wanted to take everything,” he said with a grin as he had a glance towards the box.

He paused as he considered the rest of what Connor was saying, “Michael can’t get home?” he asked with interest, wondering how that worked.

"Evidently not. Or, he can't get back to his home time..." Connor said giving his hand a little side-to-side wave. "It's like... he thinks he could get back to Roswell, but it would be Roswell 2022, not Roswell of his time."

Connor picked up the old ADD prototype and held it for a minute.

"We want to see if there's anything like what the anomalies did- the radio frequencies and all- so we can try and figure out how they work and if we can figure out what makes them connect to certain points and times."

This was definitely more Connor’s area of expertise but Cutter did look at the device rather thoughtfully, “it does sound like it would work, that’s what happened at the shopping mall when those raptors appeared, the radios were stuck on the same frequency, maybe in a place like Fandom it can be more concentrated?”

"Exactly! And if there is any difference between the signals portals give out, it might indicate something tying them to a past, current, or future point in time," Connor said with a grin before giving a small chuckle. "But we'll see. Gotta get some measurements and all first. The trip might be a good place to start gathering data on the portals."
