Apu was apparently too busy sulking to do anything over-the-top for any holidays this Wednesday, it seemed. And the reason for this sulking was because, after all their years of working together, Shunsui had never once asked Apu to be his plus one on the school trips.
"But Apu-san," Shunsui reasoned, "you hate taking vacations, and who would keep an eye on the store, besides? Would you even want to go on the school trip if I had asked?"
The answer to that, of course, was a morose little no, he wouldn't, but it was the principle of the matter. It was just nice to be asked.
So Shunsui asked, and Apu said no thank you, but it seemed to lift his spirits a little bit after that, so...Shunsui supposed that was what really mattered, in the end.
