Tuesday: Groovy Tunes

Charlie was here - on time even! - and had decided that it was a fine time to be testing out all sorts of music that she'd never heard before. Some of it was clearly stranger than others, but hey, Charlie was here for the weird.

"Hi, Charlie!" And there was an easily excitable knight-hopeful riding into the store on his might steed with a wave. "Hope this isn't a bad time. Triumph just wanted to come by and say hi."

Uh-huh, yup. Totally Triumph.

Just ignore the roll of Triumph's eyes when he obligingly chirped out his greeting.

"Triumph!" Charlie shouted cheerfully. "And his noble rider, Graham! Hello! Welcome to Groovy Tunes!"

Charlie was always happy to see either Graham or Triumph, though Graham did rate higher on her list - no offense, Triumph.

Graham would actually find the idea that someone would find his company preferable over that of Triumph's, but he would be unendingly pleased by such a rare exception!

"Thanks!" Graham said, bringing Triumph to a halt and hopping off with a slight hup. Immediately, he gave Triumph a pat on his head and a treat from his cloak as he looked around a little.

"Nice to see the place," he said, "when not searching for some Holy Grail! Have you been very busy?"

"Nope, it's been very quiet today," Charlie said. "Well, customer-wise. I've been playing music and when I like something I turn it way up. Not so quiet then. What are you up to on this lovely day?"

"Oh, you know," Graham said, oh-so-casually, with a shrug of his shoulders, "just the usual rounds about the island. Triumph and I were just having a nice ride when he pointed out to me that it's Tuesday! And he said, 'say, doesn't Charlie work at the music store now on Tuesdays?' And so I said, 'you know what, Triumph? I think you're right!' And then he said, 'maybe we should go see her and say hi!' And I thought, 'that's a great idea!' And so here we are!"

His grin was pleased and a little proud at the end of that masterfully told tale.

"But not much," he admitted, "other than that."

"My," Charlie said with a grin, "Triumph... who knew you took such an interest in my schedule?" Was she buying the story? Hardly. Did she care? Nope. Well, she thought it was rather sweet.

"If you're not doing anything, you two should hang out here with me," she said. "We could order in lunch or something and you could listen to music from other worlds with me."

"Well," Graham offered with a fond smile over at his mighty steed, who was getting another pat on the heat and another treat from the cloak, especially since he was being very good about keeping the eye rolls and objecting chirps to a minimum through Graham's retelling of this conversation that had absolutely and totally one hundred percent transpired between the two of them, "he does listen to the radio religiously, and not just on my days, either.

"And I....er, we," he cleared his throat a little, "would love to hang out here and listen to music from other worlds and have lunch with you, Charlie! We haven't really got anything else to do!"

"He does, huh? Well, good for you, Triumph." She gave him a pat herself and seriously considered just giving him a hug because he was so adorable.

"Excellent," she said and patted the spot next to her. "Pull up a piece of counter and eeny meeny miney mo one of these cds!"

Don't mind Graham as he decided to jokingly take that first part literally and make the effort to give the counter a few overexaggerated tugs in the futile effort to, indeed, pull up a piece.

Then, with a grin, he settled in next to her and didn't even eeny-meenie but just sort of leg his finger fly until it landed on one of them.

"That one!" he shamelessly modded announced.

"Goof," Charlie said, giving him a friendly nudge. She put the cd in the player and closed her eyes to listen to it for a while. "Now that sounds like alien music!"

Graham was a actually going to miss quite a bit of CD as it first got started, distracted with a distant grin on his face at that nudge. But then he blinked and seemed to snap out of it, with a shake of his head, and went to listen in earnest now.

"It definitely is...." Hmmmm, let's see ... "...atmospheric?"

He did not mean for it to come out as a question.

Charlie might just have been quietly grinning to herself next to him. "Atmospheric is right. Or maybe, non-atmospheric? Since, you know, space?"
