Well, Danny was still a cat despite Steve's attempt to annoy him back to being a human through increasingly unhinged pizza choices. Steve brought him into the office for the second week in a row, put him on his desk and then pulled up a Cat TV show on Youtube for Danny's entertainment.

Look at all those birds, Danny. Doesn't that make you happy?

Steve, for his part, would be 100 percent avoiding the attack mice paperwork, no matter how many times Ralph fake coughed about it.

The Trooper Station was open! Hope you aren't allergic to cats.

Danny gagged at that. "You can't hold cat things against me!"

"You also dropped my Navy mug off the counter."

"...did you like that mug a lot?" Because Danny might have mostly had opinions on the giver of it.

"Yes, I did," Steve said, frowning.

"I'll buy you a new one, how about that?" It would be a ridiculous thing that he could pick up while Steve bought his ten pack of t-shirts.

"That would be very generous of you," Steve said.

"Since it was one you liked that I accidentally broke."

Accidentally. Yes.

"I think they sell them on base," Steve said. "We can swing by on your next appointment."

"Thank god I didn't miss that by being a cat," Danny said like it just occurred to him it was a possibility.

"I would've come up with a non-cat way to get you excused," Steve promised.

[hatesparadise]

"That also wouldn't worry the kids?" Danny replied.

[grenadesandohana]

"Or make Rachel suspicious," Steve said, nodding.

He...just hadn't come up with it yet.

"Maybe we should come up with a plan for both of us there," he said slowly. Because their lives mixed with here...

Steve nodded. "Maybe something with Mary?" he said. "Vague but family-related?"

"And maybe give her a heads up in case someone checks on it?" Steve communicate with his family? NEVER.

Steve made a little face. "Do I have to? She'll probably go along with it."

[hatesparadise]

"Or she'll add a very embarrassing detail for you." Or maybe that was just Danny's sisters.

Oh, that was just sisters. "And you think talking to her would stop that from happening?" Steve said, snorting.

[hatesparadise]

"I think it might help."

Spoken like someone who lived far from his siblings.

[grenadesandohana]

"Or it gives her a lot of time to come up with a story to embarrass us," Steve countered.

[hatesparadise]

"...maybe if I talk to her?" Daniel. Daniel, no.

[grenadesandohana]

Steve burst out laughing. "If you want to."

[hatesparadise]

"I don't like that laugh," Danny informed him. "I don't like it at all."

"Well, you've met Mare," Steve said. "What makes you think she'll be reasonable about anything?"

"Yeah, but she actually likes me." Because he'd inflicted the Williams family on her.
