Superheroing- Community Center- Wednesday morning

Back to the Holosuite today, where Kitty was standing in front of a high wooden wall. Beyond that, it was possible to see a complicated set of... were those beams or something up there?

"One of the fun things about being a superhero is that while you might choose to do things on your own, you're probably coming into contact with a lot of different types of people. Just in this class you've got a mutant teaching a Jedi, a super soldier, an actual god... And while you know your powers and strengths, you might not know someone else's, or know how to gel into a team. Today is going to be all about team building. Behind me is a ropes course that you have to complete. But your goal is going to be working together and helping each other. If you just power through on your own, everybody fails."

No one was getting graded.

"You'll start by having to get everyone over this wall. When you get to the end, you get cookies."

It's about six feet high, flat with no footholds. You can't go around, only over. Everyone has to make it.

Yeah, Steph was gonna... stand here cheering people on until someone gave her a boost over.

Steven gave her a sympathetic look. "I'm rubbish at these things as well."

Of course he wouldn't be if he changed into his suit, but that seemed against the spirit of the exercise. Would it be cheating if he had Marc do it? That counted as teamwork, in a way...

Steph smiled ruefully at him. "I prefer to play support for so many reasons, and this is definitely one of them."

She'd completely back that logic about teamwork, for the record.

Watts had assured her that he was doing better, but she still wanted to ask. Now was probably not the time though, so all she did ask was "How was Portugal?"

Steven had things he wanted to check in with Steph about as well but also felt the middle of class when others were around was not the time.

"Oh it was brilliant," he said, smiling. "Llewellyn planned it perfectly. Hard coming back, won't lie. But I suppose that's true of all holidays. How were things here?"

"Super quiet," Steph replied, "which I realize isn't much of a stretch for a town this size but it was still a little weird, because when there aren't that many people here to begin with you kind of notice when they're gone."

She pushed aside the thoughts of how Haven Springs had never quite felt the same way without Gabe, because now was not the time for that.

"It was fine, though. Relaxing, if not in a full cultural experience kind of way. Did you get to go to a bunch of museums?"

"Aquarium, museum, wine tour, library," Steven rattled off. Just in case there was any doubt how much Steven and Llewellyn were huge nerds. "And a restaurant where cats kept you company! Though I suppose that's not as unusual after yesterday."

Wait, what, Steph had friends who were nerds? Shocking! Oh wait.

"You found a cat cafe in Portugal? Unusual or not, that is literally the best."

Because of course Steph would be excited about that part.

"Llewellyn did, I can't claim any credit," Steven said. "Here, hang about - "

He fumbled in his pockets until he found his phone. He unlocked it and pulled up the gallery at the point where he'd taken the pictures in the restaurant, one of which included Llewellyn with a cat in his lap.

Steven offered the phone to Steph. "There, if you'd like to see."

Steph leaned over to take a look and immediately broke into a grin. "Perfect. Amazing. I love it."

They should probably be trying to focus on getting over the wall, but cat cafe pictures!

They were supposed to be focusing on team building. Didn't bonding over cat pictures count?

(Also Steven was slightly terrified of making Steve Rogers angry at him again so he was rather deliberately avoiding looking in that direction.)

"Was one of the trip highlights, won't lie," Steven said. The giant jacuzzi tub was also a highlight but that detail was staying private. "Bit of, erm, jet lag, I suppose you could say. But otherwise things went all right."

For "jet lag" read "blackout" but again, not a conversation topic for class.

Well, Steph would argue that it counted, at least. Not to speak for Kitty or anyone else, though.

"That happens," she said, nodding, and not that she realized it but honestly, that applied to blackouts too. "As long as it didn't outweigh the highlights, right?"

"It didn't," Steven said. "And luckily Llewellyn put in time for getting up late if we needed."

Not for jet lag, granted, but it was budgeted all the same.

"Damn, now I know who to ask to plan my trip itinerary if I ever need one," Steph remarked. Not that she was likely to need an itinerary, since her preferred style of travel was impulsive and fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants, but you never knew. "He does not half-ass things."

"He's wanted to go for a while," Steven said. "Made it easier for him, being able to do it all online. That and we did it in our - my world, not his."

One of these days Steven would learn to be better about heading off those pronoun slips when talking about him and Marc. Today was clearly not that day.

"Er, you know, modern conveniences all around."

"I had a feeling it was a modern version, since he brought me a CD from there." Steph still sounded absurdly delighted about that. "He's gotten the hang of online reservations and all that already, huh? Nice. I guess I'm not surprised."

The 'our' had not gone unnoticed, though she didn't comment on it just yet; she'd be asking at some point, in light of something Alex had mentioned to her a few weeks ago during her visit, but she wasn't inclined to air out people's personal business in the middle of class. She'd been the target of enough of that at Blackwell Academy to know how much it blew.

Instead she just commented, "That's right, you're from the same world as some other people here, huh?"

"No, no," Steven said, hastily, because he was desperately trying not to make this conversational stumble again (super soldier sight was based on movement, right? If Steven was quiet and held still Steve wouldn't notice him?)

Not that Steph would have had any way of knowing he was worried about that, of course.

"I thought that, turned out I was wrong. Very, very key differences between their worlds and mine," Steven continued, hoping neither of the two people in question were overhearing any of this. "Sort of thing that - that is not good to be confused about, actually. Lesson learned there."

"Oh. Ouch," said Steph, who had no such personal experience but was enough of a genre savvy nerd to make an educated guess at exactly how not good it was to be confused about that sort of thing. "Got out of that one relatively unscathed at least, I hope?"

By which she meant both him and the space-time continuum, but hopefully he could infer that.

She was probably not big enough to be a line-of-sight obstruction, unfortunately.

"I do as well," Steven said, since he honestly had no way of being able to tell if things had been smoothed over. Hence him doing his best to stay out of the way, even if it made certain assignments like the day's tasks incredibly awkward.

Shame Steph wasn't taller.

Or capable of effectively boosting him over the wall!

"Fingers crossed, dude," Steph told him.

Well. She could try to give him a boost. It would probably be a spectacular, but comical failure.

Well Steven had no problems helping Steph as well. Perhaps if they looked out for one another they could ~~handwavily b/c migraine~~ get through it.

Steve stood at the bottom. "Who needs a boost?"

"I definitely will," said Steph, raising her hand without any shame whatsoever. This would probably not be a surprise to anyone who had seen her laughable attempts at some of the summer shenanigans activities.

"Oh! I can help too!" God, being tall was so nice, you guys.

"Teamwork," Steve said with a grin. They were going to fling their classmates way, way too far.

"That's... possibly a really long trip, if you're both doing it." Steph was absolutely not looking mostly at Jane when she said, "Maybe just like... one of you?"

No offense, Steve. It was just, if she had her choice here, well. Y'know.

Once you're over the wall you have to climb the ladder onto what looks like a complicated course (it's not that bad). First up, the only way to the next platform is for you to use a tightrope to the next platform. There's a rope above to hang onto, but that's it.

Anakin grinned. "I can keep everyone steady," he offered.

There's a thick rope net between this platform and the next with nothing below you. The holes in the net are also big enough for a limb to slip through if you're not careful.

"Is it cheating to hammer across?" Jane was just establishing the ground rules, okay?

"I'll allow it," Kitty called.

From over where she was chilling in the air because she'd walked up to watch.

"I mean, I can fill in all the holes with web," Miguel offered.

To get from this platform to the next there's a series of flat boards that you have to use as stepping stones to the next platform. But when you step on them you'll find that they swing back and forth so it's going to be tricky to get to the next one.

It's like gym class all over again to get to the next platform. Also it's weirdly wet and kinda slippery? Ew.

Now you get to strap yourselves/each other in to the very easy harness to zip line a pretty short distance to the second to last platform.

Yay! You made it to the last platform! Except... how do you get down?

You get to jump into a deep pile of foam. It's only like a story and a half high, you're fine. Does mess up your superhero landings though.

All done! Now you get either chocolate chip cookies or Taylor Swift's chai cookies, which, A+.

Who feels like Anakin today doing this.
