There was just something in the air today that meant no matter how hard she tried to stay wake, she found herself slowly nodding off only to jolt back awake, and then start drifting off again...

Eventually, she went upstairs and returned with a chair, maybe she could just rest her eyes for a moment...

About thirty seconds later, Saffron very smugly curled up on a sleeping Vi's chest.

That was exactly how Steph found them when she came in with coffee and pastries.

"Hey, babe, I --"

She cut herself off as soon as she realized Vi was asleep and set everything she was carrying down as quietly as possible, went into the office to retrieve the Galaxy Quest throw blanket she'd been stashing in there, and emerged to drape it as carefully as possible over Vi without waking her.

(Saffron apparently understood that Steph wasn't here to steal Vi's attention from her, because she didn't actually move out of protest at Steph's proximity. Or maybe that was just because she was fine having a blanket draped over her. Or maybe she was just trying to tell Steph 'ha ha, MINE NOW.' The point was, she stayed.)

She leaned down to kiss the top of Vi's head, murmured "You're so cute when you're sleeping," then brought her laptop out to the counter so she could keep an eye on the store while she updated the inventory list.

When Vi eventually (between the blanket and the purring cat she was very comfortable) blinked awake she smiled sleepily at Steph. "Hey."

"Wow, I didn't think I wore you out that much," Steph teased her. "Just one of those days, huh?"

She glanced at her computer screen and wondered again why she'd thought it would be a good idea to put all the dice in the inventory system under "math rocks" and "click clacks." It was still funny though.

"Yeah, I'm just out of it today." Vi stretched as much as she was able to without dislodging Saffron, before stritching behind her ears. "Guess I need to work on my stamina."

Steph laughed and reached over to ruffle her hair.

"Personally, I think the kitty nap field just got you."

Vi grinned, leaning into Steph's hand the exact same way Saffron was leaning into hers. "Are you suggesting I'm sleepy because Saffron wanted a cosy place to nap?"

Like, it had worked if that was the case.

"Yes," Steph said without missing a beat. "You did the same thing to me when you were a kitten, and you were a kitten, so you were constantly napping, and every time you wanted cuddles because you were about to go out like a light I got super sleepy too."

She paused for dramatic effect, then drawled, "Anyway, I can absolutely speak from experience when I say your chest is an excellent place to nap."

Vi burst out into a belly laugh, which startled Saffron right off her chest, so, rude, Steph.

"I guess you'd know," she said, still sniggering. "I can definitely agree we've got that in common though."

It really was terribly rude of Steph to ruin Saffron's nap that way, wasn't it? To her credit, she did wince and look apologetic, though how much credit Saffron was willing to give her for it was... going to be minimal at absolute best.

"Five stars from both cat me and human me," Steph continued, grinning at her. "A plus, would definitely repeat the experience on a nightly basis."

None. Saffron was going to give her no credit. At all. Instead she was going to disdainfully groom herself.

"I think something like that could be arranged," Vi said, looking extremely smug herself.

Yeah, none at all was about what Steph had been expecting.

"Oh yeah?" she asked, completely forgetting for the moment that she'd had an actual work related question she'd been meaning to ask Vi. "Because we do already do that on a pretty regular basis already."

"See," Vi said. "I'm just that good at arranging things."

"Oh, yeah?" Steph asked, raising her eyebrows. "So should I put you in charge of keeping the miniatures wall organized as a permanent thing, then?"

"I mean I'm not responsible for what might happen with them if you do."

No, Vi, responsible for what happened with them is exactly what you'd be.

Steph pitched her voice up just a notch or two higher, exactly enough to be obnoxious when she said in a playfully mocking tone, "Aww. It's so adorable that you think that."

Vi laughed and tried to pull Steph into her lap, ignoring Saffron's look of outrage and affront. "Yeah, I am pretty adorable."

Oh, no, look at Steph putting up no resistance whatsoever and landing not too gracefully in Vi's lap!

"And so modest," she said, cuddling up shamelessly.

"It's always been one of my better qualities." If anything, Vi looked even smugger than before as she wrapped her arms around Steph.

"Yeah, I've definitely noticed." Steph turned to kiss her cheek. "So, is that a yes, then? You'll be in charge of keeping the minis organized? You are my right hand woman, after all."

"I'm even better with my left," Vi joked before nodding. "Yeah, I'll look after them for you."

After all, there were actively worse people Steph could've trusted with this. Isabela.

The only thing Steph would trust Isabela to do with the minis was find an infinite number of new and original compromising positions to put them in every day.

"I've noticed that too," Steph murmured beside her ear. "But thanks, seriously. Turns out wrangling the inventory so it doesn't devolve into total chaos is kicking my ass."

She could've just categorized them all as dice in the system, but noooooooo.

Isabela was an artist, Steph, an artist.

"And I like your ass the way it is," Vi murmured back.

It was Steph's own fault for having so many sets of the forbidden candy.

And Steph respected that! Really! She just objected to the use of her store as the figurative canvas for it.

"Well, I was wondering, but thanks, babe." Steph shot a grin at her and wiggled said ass a little bit.

"You're welcome," Vi replied cheerfully, enjoying the wiggling more than a little bit. "The inventory should know I have first dibs."

"Considering how many times I've blown off updating it to do something with you, I think it knows," Steph replied, resting one hand over Vi's as she relaxed against her. "And no, I'm not sure when exactly the dice selection got so massive, but I'm not sorry either. They're dice, it happens."

Shiny, shiny math rocks. She'd totally argue it was on theme considering the store name.
