It wasn't that cold by a lot of people's standards, but it was still chillier than Scott was used to in November. So while he was in a big stupid parka that was probably a little much for the weather, actually, and while he was also clutching a peppermint mocha (never too early!), he was also concerned for the people who couldn't necessarily look out for themselves.
So here he was, wrapping a blanket around Jeff's ankles. Kind of like a Christmas tree skirt, actually? But it seemed more effective than trying to put socks on the guy, you know?

"Plus," she said with a teasing glance toward Scott, "I have no idea how old you might be and I wouldn't want to get either of us in trouble, you know?"

Definitely because Jeff was eating it, yes.

Ooooorrrr, certain people could write their own notes from 'Jeff' on the pad when no one was watching.

So maybe a pad of paper inside a plastic baggie? Or a Magna-Doodle, maybe.

"Are you going to bring him in when the snow starts falling," she asked. "A blanket around his feet won't cut it then."

And more to the point, Scott super did not want to run afoul of any kind of magical wards that might be in place to ensure no one ran off with Jeff in the night.
