Museum- Monday

Connor was definitely not at all late getting to the museum that morning. not at all! He just felt like sprinting most of the way so he was wide awake with his heart pumping nad blood flowing as he settled in for the day. Totally normal....

At least he hadn't lost any of the papers he had with him as he made his jog across the island. But if anyone needed him right away they might have to give him a minute or two to catch his breath before he would be good for much. It had been a while since he had had to run like that. Probably running from a Raptor was the last time he could recall to be honest.

Anyway, the Museum was finally open and ready if anyone happened to wander by.

You know who didn't judge anyone for being late? Connor's coworker. It wasn't his scheduled day, of course, but there he was. "Connor! Hello! How are you?"

"Hey Steven, good to see ya!" Connor said. "Wasn't expecting to see you around here today. How you been?"

"Doing well," Steven said. "Yourself? Any plans for the holidays?"

"Doing alright, and not really made any plans. Probably just sticking around here" Connor said with a shrug. "Not really got anyone back home to rush off to go see." Connor gave a small nod toward Steven. "What about you?"

"Same," Steven said. "Anyone I'd want to see is here. But this works out. I wanted to invite you to a party Llewellyn and I are having for Hanukkah. It's not religious or anything like that, I promise. Excuse for friends and food, really. But it'll be the evening of 19th December and you're welcome to come."

"Ah thanks, mate! That sounds like a great time," Connor said. "Will definitely try to make it." There was a good chance of that seeing how there really was only one person on the island he would be spending the holidays with otherwise. "Anything ya need me to bring?"

"Yourself?" Steven said. "Any friends you think would care to come? Don't suppose you know who's living in the other flat on our floor, do you? Haven't met them yet but seems rude not to invite them."

And Steven showing up at their door to invite them to a party unasked might start an entire weekend of internet discourse about whether hospitality was ablism.

"Ah my mate Nick Cutter lives next door, so that would be easy enough to let him know" Connor replied. "As far as friends go, I was planning to see if Michael was doing anything or had any plans. Other than that, afraid I'm still pretty lacking on the socializing side of things" Connor added with a small laugh.

"That'd be great if you could pass it on, cheers. And Michael with the interest in Egyptology?" Steven asked, because of course he had his own priorities about what stood out to him. "I've met him. He's nice. He's welcome as well, of course. You both still seeing each other then? Don't mean to pry, only he mentioned it."

"Aye, that Michael," Connor said, unable to keep the grin off his face. "Ah no worries, not like either of us are trying to hide it (as unfamiliar as THAT was for Connor when it came to people being in a relationship with him). And yeah, he's a really cool guy."

"He seemed nice," Steven said. Of course anybody who appreciated Egyptology automatically got bonus points in Steven's opinion. "Smart, which is always good in a - partner? Boyfriend? It's strange trying to come up with the right words, isn't it?"

"Ah yeah... damn labels," Connor said with a laugh, hoping that his face wasn't really as red as it felt at that moment. "But yeah Michael is bloody brilliant. And fun so... can't really complain." Especially when someone like Micahel willingly chose to hang out with someone like him!

"He seems like it," Steven said. "And how's Rex doing? Cold weather's not too hard on him, is it?"

"Rex is doing good. Handling the cooler weather same as any cold-blooded creature" Connor said. "Slowing up a little and being a lazy thing lately. He's taken to sleeping on the couch which is under the vent so it's pretty snug for him right now."

Steven looked thoughtful. "Would it help him to have a jumper? He could probably fit one of those they make for small dogs. Or would it not matter since he's cold blooded?"

"Ya know... I'm not sure if it would but now that you bring it up, I think I am going to have to get one and try. Jsut to see how he reacts and if I can get some good pictures!" And Connor would totally blame you Steven if he ended up with a pissed off dragon trying to nip his fingers. But this had to be at least attempted now!

"I bet he'd look right smart even if it didn't keep him warm," Steven said. So yeah, basically entirely Steven's fault if Rex didn't like it. "Could get him one of those fancy ones for the holidays."

Connor thought for a moment. "True, could get him several if he isn't too bad with them. Probably could find something that would work over at the pet shop."

Thousand apologies Rex... Connor would find a way to make it up to you, somehow.

At least neither of them had suggested including little hats?

"I've not been myself but I'm told those who work there are nice," Steven said. "I've only the fish so can't say for how good the clothing options are. Don't make jumpers that small, do they?"

To say nothing of how tiny sweaters would make it hard to swim.

"Not unless you got bigger fish like a barracuda or shark," Connor said with a smirk.

"Don't think I'd care to argue with either of them about clothing," Steven said. "Feel they're allowed to do as they like."

"Probably for the best with anything big enough to eat you or cause serious harm. Rex at least can't do much more than bite a finger or try and use my legs as a scratching post." He really was a lot like a cat in many ways come to think about it....

Steven tried to remember how big Rex's claws were. "Surely that must be painful?"

"Bout the same as a cat or dog really. He's usually pretty good though. Only time he's really got me bad was when he got spooked, so can't really blame the guy for that one."

"Not his fault, yeah," Steven agreed. "What spooked him, if you don't mind my asking?"

"Damn scientists at a lab trying to poke and prod him. Rex wanted nothing to do with that, naturally. Ended up trying to climb me like a tree to get away from the bloody idiots!"

"Oh I can't blame him for that at all," Steven said. "Poor thing. Imagine it's one thing if they're at the vet where they need to be checked to stay healthy. But treating him like some sort of experiment, well that's not on at all, is it?"

"Yeah. I mean, I kinda understand why everyone kinda freaked out and went into full scientist poke-it-with-a-stick mode" Connor said with a small, reluctant shrug. "I mean, Rex kinda was the first living dinosaur in our world and all. But yeah... they learned pretty quickly he doesn't respond to that too kindly. That was actually why he ended up with us at the headquarters rather than the lab. He definitely is happier as a pet rather than a science experiment!"

"Have to imagine there's ways to learn about him without hurting him," Steven said. "I mean it works out for everyone that way, doesn't it? He's happy and he's around longer for them to observe."

"That's the approach we took at the Home Office. Worked out pretty good, and Rex was definitely happier" Connor gave a small smile. "So much that there was no way I could leave him behind when I decided to come here to Fandom."

"Two of you seem like peas in a pod," Steven agreed. "He must've been right happy finding someone who was willing to care for him. Not treat him like a thing to be poked at."
