A corner of the beach- Thursday afternoon

The weather wasn't the best, but Rey didn't mind it, and she didn't know of a tricked-out warehouse she could use instead. She'd be fine out here for a while as she ran drills. She was faster and doing more complicated things that anyone in Fandom might have seen, blue blade cutting through the air as she twisted and turned and cut down so many invisible enemies.

Plus with this bad feeling, it could be practice.

Kylo Ren knew exactly where she would be. He took his time getting there, though, instead opting to open himself to the Force and to her in particular, to talk. To intimidate, while also wearing a beanie, Birkenstocks, and a flannel that looked like it had been crumpled up on a chair for like a month.

And he got... absolutely nothing in response from Rey. Huh.

Rey got nothing on her end, either.

She could still sense him the normal way, though, and suddenly on alert, she spun around with her lightsaber still lit, watching him stroll over the sand.

Looking like that.

He had been all set to lecture her about something, to attack one way or another, and he was completely distracted now.

So when he'd gotten a comfortable distance away from her his first words were, "Why can't I talk to you?"

"Maybe I'm finally free of you," Rey snapped, though there wasn't as much bite to it.

"You wouldn't want that," he said, knowing as much. Even if this felt... off somehow. Like being slightly off balance.

Yes and no, honestly.

And she had another retort for him, but she also had a very important question. "New look?"

"It's not important," he said vaguely. "This feels different."

"It feels like it could be important," she said, frowning. "Why do you look like that?"

Kind of killing a tense moment here with that hair, Kylo.

"That's not the point!" Kylo yelled. "Focus!"

"You don't get to speak to me that way!" Rey yelled back, gripping her lightsaber more tightly. "This is your last chance to turn and leave."

Kylo was surprised. He'd expected it to shock some sense into her, maybe. Or she'd have just taken a swing at him.

"You're not her," he said.

"Funny, coming from you right now." Had been seen a mirror? Did he think this was normal? "Very well then."

And wishing she had a cloak to dramatically drop, she charged at him.

And with that? A giant head with itty bitty arms and legs can hurtling through the air like Team Rocket blasting off again, to slam into the sand between the pair of them.

One little Reebok clad legs twitched as he groaned into the sand.

Kylo didn't lower his lightsaber, but kind of had to pause in the fight because of this.

"What's the meaning of this?"

He had a crush to vanquish here!

The legs just kicked harder and there was a muffled screaming sound coming from the sand.

MODOC was going to end up with a real Anakin Skywalker hatred of sand.

Rey sighed a little and used one hand to lift him out of the sand with the Force.

"MODOC WILL DESTROY YOU!" he shrieked, definitely trying those psychic blasts again. You know. One two people who use the force.

Doin' great there, MODOC. Doin' great.

"Unnecessary!" Rey admonished.

While now using that hand to stop Kylo's lightsaber from swinging right at MODOC because someone had anger issues.

Oh, there was that Not-Quite-Waluigi noise as he waved his tiny limbs impotently at them. "I will crush this island and everyone in it!"

"Not if we crush you first!" Kylo retorted.

"We?" Rey repeated.

He screamed again, sending blasts at them again, just really not learning from his mistakes. Because why do that when you can just keep on being a classic villain, huh?

Okay, that was just rude now. Enjoy Rey Force throwing the weird little crop top brain guy across the beach. Mostly for his sake.

Palpatine was starting to figure out why Skywalker hated sand so much. It was so difficult to glide through it in a smooth yet overtly hostile way.

He walked along, tilting his head towards the familiar-but-not Force presence along the beach. "Jedi," he hissed softly.

Was he so old and gross that he kind of like, lurched across the sand instead?

Rey didn't recognize the presence at all. She still knew who he was. Impossible not to.

"Emperor Palpatine," she said, lightsaber still ready.

It was a very intimidating lurch, okay.

"You will not need that," he said, glancing scornfully at the lightsaber.

"And why do you say that?" she asked, not moving.

Even if she was wondering what was with the clock.

"Because I could kill you where you stand."

Very normal thing to say.

[thatwaslucky]

"That is less intimidating than you think it is," Rey said, lifting her chin in defiance.

While still eyeing the clock. Seriously. What was with people today?

He was trying out a thing, okay. She should see the brain in the halter top.

"Oh, would you like to be more intimidated?" he purred. "That could be arranged."

[thatwaslucky]

Give her a few.

"This island always wins," she said. "Every time. Whatever your plans are, you'll never be successful."

So that kind of behavior from her was the same.

[sith_happened]

"Oh, I wouldn't be so certain," he said, cackling softly to himself.

[thatwaslucky]

"I am," she said firmly.

[sith_happened]

"What if I told you where you came from?" Palpatine said, suddenly all sharp eyes and coiled predator energy.

And giant clock necklace.

[thatwaslucky]

"And where did I come from?" she asked.

[sith_happened]

Palpatine grinned triumphantly. "Me."

[thatwaslucky]

Rey tilted her head. "...What?"

[sith_happened]

"I'm your grandfather," he said.

And cue the cackling.

[thatwaslucky]

"No," Rey said slowly. "My father would have told me about that. We're very close."

[sith_happened]

That didn't seem right.

"You are?"

You weren't, say, abandoned on a desert planet and left to fend for yourself?

[thatwaslucky]

"And he has nothing to do with you."

Technically. Anymore.

[sith_happened]

"Oh, that can't possibly be true," Palpatine said, chuckling evilly.

[thatwaslucky]

"You're not in our lives at all," she said with a shrug.

[sith_happened]

"I am the emperor," he said icily. "I am in all lives."

[thatwaslucky]

"If that makes you feel better?" Rey said.

[sith_happened]

"Don't patronize me, child," Palpatine spat. With spittle.

[thatwaslucky]

Rey subtly tried to wipe away spittle.

[sith_happened]

Palpatine smirked. Evilly.

[thatwaslucky]

"Maybe I should go," Rey said.

[sith_happened]

"Maybe you should," Palpatine agreed.
