The Perk, Sunday Morning

It had definitely been a fucking week, hadn't it? Margo was very ready to move on to different things. Like beards, apparently. And other stuff.

Too bad the barista saw through the beard almost instantly.

"Oh, come on," Margo yelled. "Are you going to be pissed about that forever?!"

She rolled her eye.

"I'm pretty sure you're at least supposed to get me my damned latte!"

Yesterday had been- well. Complicated. Today was still complicated, obviously, but in a less fraught sort of way.

More in a fancy coffee sort of way. So here Watts was, to place a to-go order for a couple of coffees before heading back to the apartment to help Steven pack for the trip they were originally supposed to leave for tonight, but were now waiting out to see if Watts changed back to his normal self by tomorrow.

He adjusted his hat for what felt like the millionth time, not quite used to the feel of it, but his usual was far too big right now.

The hat was possibly a clue but Stark didn't want to guess incorrectly so he just offered a nod and a hesitant wave in the direction of this new arrival.

The mask was even more of one. "Stark," he greeted. "Morning." A beat. "It's Watts."

"I thought you might be," Stark said. "I'm easy to recognize."

Though Watts somehow didn't look entirely unlike himself.

"Are you alright?"

“If I were all right I would be in possession of the body I usually have,” Watts said with a slight grimace.

At least he had clothes that fit (and a stylish handbag), thank you, Irene.

"It takes some getting used to," Stark said sympathetically. "But it goes away. This has happened before, to me."

And he was much, much calmer about it this time.

"Travis was... not badly, yesterday, when he woke up."

“I’ve heard of it,” Watts said. “We were supposed to leave for Toronto tonight. I- can’t, like this.”

"Maybe tomorrow, if we're lucky?" Stark said hopefully.

"Is Steven... himself? Travis wasn't. Isn't."

“Steven is fine, his usual self,” Watts confirmed. “Marc as well.” Which was probably obvious but it was Fandom so who even knew what was possible.

“You woke up together?” Watts tried to think what would be more startling- waking up with (what appeared to be) a woman, or the eventual realisation that he too currently looked like one.

"That's good. Very good and yes, we did."

They hadn't every day this past week but no need to get into that. Watts might be scandalized at Stark's behavior (as well as that of most of the island residents).

"He didn't take it well."

“I can imagine,” Watts nodded. His own freakout had been somewhat more drawn out as he’d tried to convince himself at first that this was fine.

"I think he'll be fine but he needed time."

Stark hoped Travis would be fine, anyway.

"Where did you find clothes?"

“Miss Adler was kind enough to come by with something appropriate,” Watts told him. Because he’d texted her in a panic about corsets!

"That was good of her," Stark said. "Summer let me borrow clothes. And helped with my hair. And painted my nails."

All in a totally vibe-free fashion.

"And asked if I'd like to go on the trip with her, today."

At the mention of nails, Watts couldn’t help but glance down at Stark’s. Nail polish was one of those things that didn’t exist yet in his time, but he’d seen it often enough since arriving in Fandom.

“Did you say yes?” Watts asked.

"I did," Stark said after a very brief hesitation. "It will be good to go somewhere warm, and get away from the island for a bit."

He had a lot to think on after the past week and the week before that he'd been a koala.

“That is the reasoning that led to Steven and I going to Miami last week,” Watts nodded. Toronto would be… less warm.

"Did you have a good week there?" Stark asked. "Where it was warm?"

"We did, yes," Watts said. "We spent a significant amount of time at the beach. But our hotel room also had a terrace with a private pool." And so a lot of time was spent there as well. Watts was, in fact, a shade or so darker than he had been when they'd left, though given the circumstances it was not the most noticeable change since Stark had seen him last.

"Good. I'm glad you had a good week. It's good to be able to do that. To get away."

"Agreed," Watts nodded. "Not that I don't normally like it here. I do." But he also had that itch to travel and winter in particular had a tendency to wear him down. "When," he added, "the island is not playing games with its residents."

"Is any one of those a latte?" Margo called. "'Cause that sounds like a long order!"

“Mochas,” Watts squinted at the- fellow?- with the eyepatch. Not actually a fellow, he was reasonably certain, due to, well. Eyepatch and other structural similarities in the general face area. But he also didn’t have a name for whoever this was. “Why?”

"That'll do," Margo said, motioning towards... her? Him? "I need caffeine and they're not giving me any, the lactose-spitting dickheads."

“If you mean to abscond with my beverage order, in the interests of full disclosure I ought also to mention they’re vegan mochas, specifically,” Watts said.
