At first, Prompto was a little confused about the present that had been left for him at the shop (a belated wedding gift and congratulations for your little bundle of joy ♥, the note had said), but once he figured it out?

Oh, baby.

"This thing," Prompto declared with a contented sigh from the comfortable position of leaning onto the standing pillow at the counter and a pleased smile on his face, "is amazing."

And, even better than the comfort and the apparent free pass from his boss to nap at work? It was proof that his boss even knew who he was! He honestly wouldn't have been surprised if Shunsui didn't even realize he had an extra employee on Fridays, since he knew it was Summer who really ran this place.

But, of course, someone who was very aware of Prompto's employment and far less approving of his napping on the job was the guy he actually had to work with every week, and Apu was already pretty mad at him for missing the memo on Dress in Blue Day (he wasn't even sure he owned much in blue, to be honest...but, hey! 50% off all Blue Clothing today, you guys!), so, as much as Prompto wanted to test it out, he was going to very subtle set the pillow aside for now, and just wait for a good moment when Apu was caught up with stuff in the back room or something to finally give it an honest go.

Liz had had a fairly good morning with Noctra and had gotten her fed and settled down that morning with minimal fuss and once she had, she sent over several photos she had taken of Noctra sleeping in her crib.

hi, Noctra is sleeping, she had a good feed this morning. How are things over there?

Aww, photos were unfair! Sure, Prompto had literally just saw them both before he'd left that morning, but looking through the ones Liz had sent just made him really, really wish he wasn't stuck here at work and was back home with them...

...and napping, just like Noctra was now, which mean that, hoo, boy, she was definitely not going to be napping once he finally did get home, was she?

He smiled faintly before sending his response:

shunsui actually got me a present for napping here at the counter

With that, Prompto included a picture of the standing pillow.

only thing is that i'm too afraid to use it because apu keeps glaring at me like he'll murder me in my sleep if i do. if i eventually give in and end up with a knife in my back, take this text to the station as evidence

There was a reasonable chance that Noctra wasn’t going to be napping, sorry Prompto.

Apu wouldn’t do that, would he? Liz didn’t really know enough about him that she wasn’t sure if Prompto was joking or not I will keep this text safe though, that does look like a nice pillow, maybe I could get one when I go back to work?

Even though she was pretty sure she wasn’t going to be there long enough to nap when she did start to go back but she thought it wouldn’t hurt to have one close by.

Prompto's only hope, however, was that, soon after he got home, that at least Liz would be.

Or just take this one, since Prompto clearly wasn't going to be using it. Not if he planned on remaining un-murdered by his coworkers.

I might look into getting one , it does look really comfortable 🥰😍🥰 Liz wrote back and more baby clothes are always a good thing to have, especially with how quickly Noctra seems to be growing, she will love them! :)

not to mention how quickly we go through them just getting dirty

It seemed to break some kind of laws of physics, with how something so tiny could produce that much mess in such a short amount of time, honestly.

but u can always just borrow this one! it's not like we'll both be using it at the same time.

although now i wonder if there's some sort of couple version 😂😂😂

she does make a lot of mess doesn’t she? Liz agreed having extra clothes just for that reason doesn’t sound like a bad idea 😀

Steven wasn't going to disturb a new father in need of some rest - especially given how much he could sympathize with someone exhausted enough to sleep on the job. So he made sure to be quiet when he came into the shop just in case Prompto was getting needed shut eye.

If Prompto was getting any sleeping done that day, it was going to be with one eye open, with the mood Apu was in about the whole thing, so he was, unfortunately, very wide awake (well, wide awake was definitely generous) when Steven came in.

"Hey, Steven," he gave him a smile and a notch of a hand in a wave. "How's it going?"

Steven waved back, glad he wasn't disturbing him. "Prompto! Hello! How are you?"

"Eh," Prompto shrugged a little, but he had a grin on his face when he did it. A pretty sleepy grin, sure, but easily a contented one. "Not so bad. Things are going well, pretty quiet today, so that's kind of nice."

Definitely cherishing a little peace and quiet where he could, although he did feel a little bad about that.

"How 'bout you? You getting settled into a routine again now that you're back and everything?"

"Working on it," Steven said. He came over to the counter so they could have a proper chat. "It's been a bit of an off week there but, er suppose most are when you're back from holiday."

Which wasn't the entire reason why the week had been off but Steven wasn't going to burden Prompto with that.

"And Liz and the little one?" Steven asked. "They're getting on well?"

"They're getting on great, actually," said Prompto, his big, proud, fond grin lighting up his face immediately.

Sure, it was the sort of great that made a guy like Prompto worry about when everything was going to start going horribly wrong, but he wasn't about to burden Steven with that.

"A little touch-and-go sometimes," he added, almost more for his own benefit to remind himself that it was easy to be optimistic about it with the distance of being removed from the apartment and being sent adorable sleeping baby pictures, "but that's just to be expected, right?"

"They do say the first weeks are hard," Steven said. "Not that I've experience with it myself but there does seem to be a learning curve. If you're finding that it's likely normal, yeah?"

"Yeah, probably," Prompto agreed with a faint laugh. "If anything, most of the learning has been in how to effectively sneak in as many naps as you can. Man, here I thought living in a world of perpetual night would throw off your sleeping schedule, it's nothing compared to having a baby."

There was a small pause as he thought about how that might have sounded.

"Err, not that there's any contest, I'll happily take the baby in this situation over the eternal darkness, easily."

"The naps do help," Steven agreed. "I mean - never had the situation you do, of course. But I know what it's like to lose sleep. Naps and coffee when you can manage it. Oh! Here. Before I forget."

Steven rummaged in his satchel and pulled out two identical small gift bags that were the same ones he'd been giving out around town. He put them on the counter in front of Prompto. "For you and Liz."

Steven then looked around to see who else was in the shop, then added extra bags as well. "And the others who work here. For Purim."

"Aww, thanks, man," said Prompto, who looked pleased when Steven set down the first two bags for him and Liz, and then laughed when all the others were added, maybe counting a little, out of curiosity, to see if Steven counted the cheese panda or not.

(He'd discovered, during his time working here, that the status of the cheese panda as an actual employee was up for debate and changed pretty frequently).

"What's Purim?"

Steven had, in fact, included the cheese panda. Employee or not, it was a regular so it seemed only kind to consider it with everyone else. "It's a Jewish holiday. Coming up next week, actually. Starts Monday night. But part of it is that you give little gifts to people, you see. Sweets and such to celebrate. Had my day free so thought I'd go about and give as many as I could before dinner."
