Vi's mind wasn't really on her work today, since she (more or less accidentally) caught several episodes of Unlikely Grizzled Dad Figure: In Space! and before she could sort out the feelings that was stirring up, it'd derailed into something straight out of sexy crimes class, and now she was feeling very judgemental of that fictional naive scientist.

Though she supposed that that very suss woman was extremely hot and charming, and she probably would've considered committing crimes with her despite how very obviously she was going to stab her in the back.

Had Vi found one of the, uh, more resourceful streaming sites bookmarked on Steph's laptop, by any chance?

"You're a little bit distracted today," observed Steph, coming up beside her with a bag containing their lunch in one hand.

It wasn't out of the realm of possibility. It was also entirely possible that Vi had belatedly discovered what a thirst trap was, so Steph was welcome when she checked her laptop's history, she guessed.

"Hey," she said, not so distracted she couldn't turn to kiss Steph's cheek, and lean against her.

But how messed up were Steph's Netflix recommendations going to be? That was the real question.

She slid an arm around Vi's waist and handed the bag to her. "Hi. You okay?"

That question would suggest that they weren't already full of buff, butch girls who punched good.

"Yeah, just thinking about some stuff," Vi said, smiling at her before checking out that contents of the bag. "Even better now."

Not that there hadn't been a fair bit of that brand of content in her queue, but weird, offbeat, indie stuff had made up a good chunk of it before.

"Will fish and chips help with that, or do you need to talk about it?" Steph asked, smiling lazily back.

In that case Steph might need to spend some time repairing the ratio there.

"Food always helps," Vi replied sincerely, as she did her best not to burn her tongue on the chips. "It's nothing serious, just some stuff with some show."

Good thing she loved you, Vi.

"A lot of times 'just some show' can still stir up some pretty serious shit," Steph replied, wincing a bit as she watched Vi square off with some steaming hot fried potato insides. "If you're sure you're okay, cool, but if it turns out you need it, that offer to talk still stands."

It wasn't like the indie stuff was completely gone, it just now happened to all be indie stuff that also had buff, butch girls who punched good.

Vi swallowed her mouthful of delicious burning. "It was that one with the guy accidentally parenting the puppet."

Two of Steph's favorite things! That worked out fairly well, actually.

It took her a minute, partly because she was dying a little bit inside watching Vi swallow all that scalding starchiness and partly because it took her a few beats to make the connection, but Steph nodded. "Ah. Kinda... poked at a sore spot a little bit, huh?"

All the more reason to love Vi then.

"Yeah," Vi said, blowing on the next few chips rather than placing them straight in her mouth. "Like he wasn't really anything like Vander, but he still made me think of him."

Obviously.

Steph wrapped both arms around Vi's waist and hugged her tightly.

"I can see that, yeah. Though... I am now trying to picture you as a tiny, adorable puppet."

Vi leaned in even closer in response.

"I wasn't that little." That adorable on the other hand...

"Sure, but if you actually had been a puppet..." Steph trailed off with a mischievous grin.

The adorable part was a given, of course.

"Then we definitely couldn't date." Unless Steph had a thing for felt.

What if she did, though, Vi? What if she did?

"That might pose some insurmountable logistical issues," Steph conceded. "You'd have been the cutest thing, though."

Was this ridiculousness helping at all?

Then they'd have to hide the plushies.

"You're being ridiculous," Vi said, hugging her tighter.

Yes, yes it was.

Excuse you, she'd still have standards.

Steph nuzzled behind Vi's ear and pressed a soft kiss to the skin there. "I'm barely even getting warmed up to my ridiculousness, babe."

Then her plan was working beautifully!

Was Steph suggesting she'd sell sub-standard plushies in her store?

"That might be too much ridiculousness for anyone to handle," Vi sounded totally concerned about that, for real.

"Maaaaaaaaaybe," Steph allowed, nuzzling at her ear again, "but I have faith in you."

It was almost like Steph wasn't the only ridiculous person in this relationship.

"I mean I do have a lot of experience handling you," Vi said thoughtfully.

It was almost like they liked being ridiculous together!

"See, my faith is entirely founded," Steph declared, rolling her eyes affectionately.

But that would be silly.

Vi smiled and leaned in to steal a kiss. "I mean I am pretty great," she said, turning her attention back to the food. "That latest episode went places though."

And they were, of course, not silly at all.

"You are the best," Steph agreed. "I haven't really been paying attention... was it super weird?"

Completely serious. All the time.

"I don't know about weird, but it suddenly was about that guy from the first couple of episodes, the one who apparently took a while to realise doing experiments on little kids might be wrong."

Never playful at all.

"I haven't really been keeping up that much," Steph admitted, "But that, uh. Sounds way out of nowhere."
