The Troopers today were snacking on something called Doritos, which Ralph explained they'd acquired yesterday. Apparently it had been- some sort of holiday or festival where eating these was considered part of the festivities?

Well. In any case, there were Troopers with cheese dust on their gloves and helmets today. No, Watts didn't know why or how it was on their helmets when obviously they needed to remove them to eat.

He was just going to be in his office, sitting on his desk and working on his Chinese writing exercises while very much not spoiling his appetite for lunch with either the chips or the pretzel that was currently in his jacket pocket.

Steven had been about to suggest something when Llewellyn's question threw him. "What makes you say that?"

“I suppose I just- assumed,” Watts said. “Based on what I know of your musical tastes.”

"I mean I wasn't a fan of those who you liked," Steven said. "But that's only because I never listened enough to form an opinion. I've nothing against symphonies at all. I was actually going to suggest something with a string quartet for us to do."

"Oh?" Watts looked intrigued. "Tell me more?"

"There's a museum," Steven said. "Not mine, the V&A. They do something where certain evenings they have performances, you see. So you go about the museum and you can hear people playing music. I thought - I thought that might be nice for us?"

"You're right, that does sound interesting," Watts said. "And such a performance is scheduled for the time that we would be there?"

"They do it Fridays," Steven said. "So yeah, looks like. If we're going late week. That - that doesn't mean we can't do a show as well. Don't mind doing music twice."

"I do miss it," Watts said. "Live music, that is. Don't get me wrong, the sheer amount of recorded media available in this time is phenomenal, but..." he trailed off.

It wasn't the same.

"I'd love to go to a symphony with you," Steven said. "There's the London Philharmonic. We could see if they've got any shows on while we're there."

"Yes, yes, please, that would be- absolutely delightful," Watts beamed at him.

Steven smiled back. "I'll have to pack a suit. Make sure I'm properly dressed."

"I do love occasions where I get to see you... all dressed up," Watts practically purred.

"Someone's feeling bold today," Steven said.

He had zero complaints about this, mind you. The warm look he gave Llewellyn was a helpful hint regarding that.

"You inspire it in me."

Also the door was closed, which upped his comfort level significantly.

Steven let the look linger, then made himself turn back to his food. "Can hardly ask you to leave work early today. Not if we're on holiday this time next week."

"Perhaps not," Watts agreed. "On the other hand, being in charge does afford me certain privileges beyond just ducking out early..."

"Like what?" Steven asked. Having never been in charge of anything he actually had no idea what might go with it.

"Well," Watts drawled. "For starters, I've got this private office- with a door that not only closes but locks. Secondly, the Troopers aren't actually meant to hang about the station all day. They really ought to be out on patrol."

Steven looked worried. "Don't make them do anything they're not meant to on my account, surely?"

Because the Troopers were clearly meant to be spending the day eating Doritos, right?

Watts smiled, reaching out to cup Steven's cheek briefly. "You're very thoughtful," he said fondly. "I promise, I'd not make them do anything beyond the scope of their regular duties. But their regular duties can take them out of the station for- some time," he said, smile turning into more of a smirk.

Steven leaned into the touch. "All right. Long as they're not being made to do inventory when they tried their best to be on time or anything."

Not that Steven had bad memories about that sort of thing.
