Today was National Shrimp Day, and, with the exception of the banner over the counter proclaiming "Shrimp Heaven NOW!" (emphasis on the now), it was all a fairly...low-key affair. There was a discount on all shrimp, fresh or frozen, Apu was giving out free samples of shrimp scampi and coconut shrimp, he'd gathered up a bin of shrimp plushies and moved it toward the front. With a knowledge of the customer base, there was a neat little pyramid display of shrimp-flavored Cup Noodle taking up the space in front the Squishy machine-shaped hole.
No one in a giant shrimp costume. No actual giant shrimp. No shrimp falling from the ceiling or even an uncomfortable amount of shrimp cardboard cutouts hanging from it instead....
It all felt very understated and simple...normal, really...that Shunsui had to admit, even he was having trouble really getting his naps in, because he was just sort of waiting for the other shrimp shoe to drop.
But at least shrimp go well with sake, but, if you asked Shunsui, everything went well with sake.
