Summer actually was a little surprised to find the store decked out in red, white, and blue for Memorial Day, although a little less surprised about all the Memorial Day sales scattered throughout the store.
"Really?" she asked Apu, with a slightly lifted eyebrow. "Memorial Day? Isn't that a little...mainstream, for your tastes? I would have figured you'd be all about...." She, very quickly, very briefly, looked down at her phone, "...End of the Middle Ages Day or...." Another glance. "Put a Pillow in your Fridge Da---seriously? A pillow in your fridge day, come on, internet."
Anyway, that was how Summer was then subjected to a lecture about how holidays were a serious business and some holidays especially so, a lecture that not only made Summer wish she had taken up Neighbor Gene's invitation for a backyard barbecue back home that day, but also that she countered with, "And yet here you are, using it as nothing more than a big excuse to promote business and shameless capitalism with these alleged Memorial Day sales."
Apu probably said something about how there's no better way to celebrate what American have fought for than through good old American capitalism, but she honestly stopped paying attention at that point.
