Turtle & Canary; Monday [07/10].
Well. That had been a weekend. One that was giving Summer an awful lot of food for thought, none of which she really had the appetite for, but there they were, anyway. Of course, she'd gotten visits from her original Morty on these weekends before, although she had to admit, this time around, it felt a little different, like it just sort of highlighted how much had changed since the time when he was still alive, even from the time she'd found out that he was actually dead and that another Morty from some other dimension had replaced him. It really put into perspective for her how much she'd changed and grown from that girl who wanted to run off to the southwest to...she didn't even know, do something with turquoise, she guessed...because she was having her very first existential crisis about her place in the world and the meaning of it all and the realization that she was just a blip of happenstance, an inexplicable alignment of so many different factors and elements beyond her control that just so happened to occur to make her who she was...
And then there was the whole thing with i>Zhaan, which...ugh, do not get her started. She was trying her best not to think about it and the ripple effect that was going to have...or to unpack the very complicated things that had sprung up from it inside of her already.
So she came into work that day intent to focus on her work, and not try to worry about it, and remember that the universe was a crapshoot, nothing really mattered, you just showed up and did your best and that's all you can do. And sometimes there was comfort in the droll repetition and meaninglessness of scanning inventory and placing orders, and sometimes, sure, you'll take a break for a nice brie on some crackers and a cuppa to support the teddy bear picnic that the cheese panda was hosting over in the cheese section.

"The bears are cute," she said, by way of greeting.

She shrugged, and gave Rey an small smile.
"How's it going, Rey?"

"Wouldn't you know it? Same."
She then looked at Rey thoughtfully before her chin quirked up.
"Who'd you get?"
It felt like, with Rey, there were soooooo many options, and this had definitely been the kind of weekend that confirmed Summer's therapist's assessment that radio was best avoided for her own mental health.

She'd heard radio, but.

"But your parents? How did that go?"

Since with all the twists in the story it was kind of like getting her heart ripped out for what, like the fourth time now?
no subject
Because when in doubt...drink it out, right?
"God," she grunted, not entirely intentionally out loud, "Morty was right. I am turning into our mom..."

Also, she was constantly dissatisfied with her life based on the idea of never living up to her full potential due to circumstances she found herself in, but Summer wasn't quite ready to unpack that aspect yet.
"Just tell me when," she said, "and I got you, girl. Honestly, I could probably use a sangria night myself at this point..."

"But I am definitely free tomorrow, and post-dead people sangria nights don't count, anyway."

Apparently, that was their thing today, huh? But she added a sigh to hers, too, and a shake of her head.
"Off," she answered. "And tired. And really looking forward to tomorrow night now. But I keep telling myself, it probably could have been a lot worse, too."
