Vi was tidying up the collection of two person games, because boy did they have a lot of those about the place, when one in particular caught her eye.

So now she had broken out the tumbling tower they had for Dread games and was building it up. Because reasons.

Hey, Steph had a very special place in her heart for two person games. Could you blame her?

She stood in the doorway for a few moments with her arms crossed, just watching, before she finally asked, "What's the occasion?"

Vi certainly couldn't.

She grinned at Steph before plastering a look of total innocence on her face. "Do I need an occasion to want to play a game with my girl?"

Steph let her mouth drop open, and put her hand to her chest in a wildly exaggerated gesture of Victorian shock.

"You want to play a game with me? Where did you come up with this idea?"

"I know, it's very presumptuous," Vi said, nodding seriously and not laughing at all. "But you like it when I'm bold."

You know what, Steph was just going to run with this Victorian thing for a bit.

"I do," she said, not caring if it looked ridiculous to be fluttering her eyelashes at Vi, or if her tank top and shorts were incongruous with the bit. "It's so deliciously scandalous."

Vi bit her lip to keep from laughing, leaning in closer to Steph. "People will talk."

Mostly squirrels, let's be real.

And the gremlins, but they did that anyway.

"I don't care what they say," Steph said breathily, although she was struggling a bit to keep from laughing. "I simply must be with you, my love!"

"According to the rules you're supposed to say things like that that after the tower comes down," Vi said, not that it was stopping her from trying to steal a kiss.

"I wasn't aware we were playing yet," Steph retorted, reaching up to wrap an arm around Vi's neck and pull her close.

"True," Vi said thoughtfully. "All the more reason to stock up on kisses before we have to longingly repress our passions."

"I would've thought you wouldn't want to relive that," Steph mused, leaning in to steal a quick kiss. Or stockpile it, depending on how you looked at it. "Unless this is more of a making-fun-of-ourselves sort of deal?"

"The latter," Vi said, leaning in against Steph. "Plus the over the top pining will be easier to take when we know it's getting resolved."

"We do deserve to get the shit mocked out of us for it," agreed Steph with a rueful chuckle. "And who better to do that than us?"

She reached out to grab a couple of wood blocks and arrange them on the tower.

"Guess that's what we'll be doing after closing, huh?"

Vi nodded, handing Steph the next layer of blocks. "So much resolving. All the resolution."

"All the resolving that we can't do during business hours," said Steph as if they didn't do that all the time anyway, as she arranged the layer of blocks. "And then some, probably."

There was only so much resolving they could do during business hours and still maintain the idea it was 'during a break'. "We do have a resolve backlog after all."

Steph snorted an inelegant laugh and tried to nip at Vi's lower lip.

"Oh, that's what we're calling it now?"

Vi groaned softly, hands smoothing up Steph's back. "We can call it whatever you want, so long as we're not just staring sadly at each other and sometimes lying on the floor screaming into pinecones."

"God." Steph nuzzled at her cheek and half-distractedly reached for another couple of blocks to start the next layer. "It feels like forever since we were being that dumb, can you believe that?"

"It's been, what nearly a year?" Which was kind of terrifying in the best way.

[drumsticksandd20s]

"Damn," Steph breathed. "Yeah, just about. I could go for a nice, non-shitty anniversary for once."

Seriously, terrifying.

"You deserve to only have non-shitty anniversaries," Vi said with feeling.

It was like they were tempting fate here, given what else had happened about a year ago.

Steph smiled at her and took a few moments to just arrange several more layers onto the tower before she tried to do something drastic like drag Vi into the office immediately to express her feelings about this adequately.

"So do you," she said finally, with just as much emotion. "And at least we'll get one. I love you, you know that?"

"I mean, it kinda helps that I'm not even sure when my shitty anniversaries have been here," Vi said softly, fiddling with a block. "I mean, I know they've passed, I just haven't had to put a date on them."

She smiled and leaned in to steal another kiss. "I do. I love you too."

"So the one you can put a date on will be a good one," Steph decided, nodding. "The kind you can celebrate with a date, even."

She was hilarious.
