Summer was a little distracted today; removed from the cozy little bubble of helping Stark recover from the events of last week, faced with inventory and orders and the dull minutiae of her job, she started to wonder if she might have made a mistake. Like she'd maybe just kind of gotten swept up in the moment without really thinking about it and opened a whole can of worms that she was never going to be able to close up again. It could all be totally fine, but it could also take a hard swing in a very uncomfy direction.

And speaking of hard swings...

It was a very bad day to be distracted, apparently, because Summer would be in an aisle, counting things, adding things to her order, trying not to let her uncertainty make a heavy pit in her stomach, when a bright yellow ball would come whizzing right by her and almost getting her on the side, or one would come arching over the shelves into her aisle and bonk her on the head.

"That's it!" she demanded, after another one managed to get her straight in the face when she emerged from an aisle. "No more Wiffle Ball Day inside the store! Take it outside, you guys."

There were, of course, gripes and grumbles, but Apu and the cheese panda settled down after that, and, later, she was pretty sure she could hear them discussing whether or not you could make a decent wiffle ball out of Swiss cheese.

At some point during the day Stark took a picture of stack of vaccination records and sent it to Summer.

Did he remember to add any text to the message? No. But he remembered he could send messages with his phone. That was progress.

It was progress! Summer was so proud of Stark, for remembering that texting was a thing that existed.

Some of that pride, however, diminished when she saw what the text contained and had to wonder if he'd texted her the picture entirely on accident.

Summer squinted at the picture for a moment before brushing her thumb and forefinger against the screen to enhance it, and NOW she saw it.

oh! Thats great! I mean im pretty sure if it was going to be an issue we'd know it by now but yay! 1 less thing to worry about!

There was maybe a slight pause of hesitation on her end before she also asked:

how r things at the clinic? U doing ok?

clinic is ok. quiet but im staying busy

That way he didn't have time to think! Which was good or he would be overthinking everything right now. Instead he'd wait until the evening to do that.

apu is trying to murder me with wiffle balls

Stark frowned at his phone.

He looked up, asked a nurse to clarify, then sent another.

All those summers of little league softball, finally paying off.

Stark let out a delighted laugh when he played the video, earning him some Looks from the nurses on duty at the clinic.

That heart, it should be noted, disappeared and reappeared several times before Summer ultimately decided to keep it.

Okay, so the heart back, Summer decided, was kind of endearing and she was a little quietly thoughtful for a moment before responding.

Well, up until a wiffle ball hit the canary's cage and made it start crying out in a startled panic.

"Apu! I swear to god!"

But there was no ire in the text when she got to finally sending it, not that that would really come across anyway.

The choice between using want or need in this case was a difficult one.

Stark's response was almost immediate.

Then he thought about that and sent another.

anything i should bring from the store since i'm here?

Anything but duct tape, really!

What would they need duct tape for, anyway?

chocolate? please. or popcorn. we could watch a movie?

Summer could definitely think of something, but that really wouldn't fit the vibe they were going for right now.

While cuddling up watching a horror movie might be fun someday today was not yet that day.

She was already thinking of something a little older, classic Hollywood style. That seemed like something Stark might appreciate.
