Summer was thinking about maybe testing some of her cocktail ideas for the party on Friday on Tino to sort of get a vibe for which ones she should feature, since she was really having a hard time figuring out how to narrow them down to a decent list, but then Tino said he'd only help if he got to test some cocktails on her, and...

...nope, definitely not worth it. Especially not when she could potentially ask her usual bar patrons to test a few of them, although she did like the element of surprise, so maybe she'll just have to either trust her gut or draw straws of something.

"Yeeeaaaah," Summer winced a little and gave Travis a look of far too deep an understanding, "you gotta watch it with that. Once he imprints on you, it might just follow you for the rest of your life."

"The fact that you sound like you know that from experience is . . . concerning," Travis observed.

"I kissed him once, like, five years ago to avoid kissing someone else," Summer explained, "and he's been obsessed with me ever since. Get out now, Travis, while you still can."

". . . You kissed him," Travis echoed. "We're both talking about the squirrel, right?"

"Look," said Summer,"I was eighteen and it was mistletoe and the only other person in the onsen at the time was Seivarden. Mistakes were made, but also I still can't say I completely regret it, even if my pride and the multiple restraining orders say otherwise."

"Multiple restraining orders," Travis squeaked.

Well, that was one way to get him right past the whole 'kissed a squirrel' thing.

Though now he was wondering if Weird Al had pondered doing a parody by that title.

And Summer's face was very much a And now you see what I mean sort of face.

"It's been a long time," she concluded. "Nip it in the bud while you can. Next time he gets stuck somewhere, do us all a favor and just fucking leave him there."

"That's -- I can't," Travis said. "It's literally my job to save people. Even from themselves. But . . . I'll at least see about getting Eddie or Buck to handle it."

And now Summer's face was the face of a person who had gone five years with a squirrel stalker, and therefor was not convinced that everyone did deserve saving, actually.

Followed by, "If your job is to save people, Travis, then I feel like throwing Eddie or Buck onto that grenade instead is very counterintuitive. I mean, at least you now know what you could potentially be getting yourself into, that's just mean to send them like blind babes into the paws of a clearly deranged squirrel."

"Yeah . . . unfortunately there are a lot of clearly deranged people in the multiverse who still need actual saving sometimes. The least I can do is spread them out?"

Look. He wasn't here to save people from emotional issues, okay?

"Sure," Summer agreed.

For a second.

"...and then there's Leroy. I had to booby-trap my air vents, Travis."

"How does the Trooper's station not have squirrel proof cells they can dump him in?"

"...oh god," Summer said, blinking a little, "now you've just put the image of Leroy in a cell wailing away mournfully on a harmonica the whole time, and I don't know how I feel about that, but you know what? You've got a good point. We should petition them to get on something like that. I mean, if you want to talk about saving people for their own best interest, that sounds like possibly the safest place for him to be at that point, too."

"Right? I'll have to mention it to Watts. I mean, they're people, right? They're, you know, sentient and make decisions and gossip and everything. So they should be subject to the same laws as the rest of us people. Which means . . . having a place to put them if they get out of hand, I guess."

Travis shook his head a little.

"Things I never really had to think that hard about before moving here."

"And," Summer noted, with a delightedly impressed sort of look, "thinks that thinking about would have had you all mildly freaking out not even that long ago! Look at you, and your final gradual acceptance of the weird shit of this island, awww!"

She bet this kind of pride was what a lot parents felt watching their kids graduate from kindergarten, or something.

"Your approval is patronizing but appreciated," Travis said, rolling his eyes. "Thanks."

"Patronizing is practically my middle name, Travis," Summer reported sweetly, "don't act surprised. But you're welcome. I'm so glad your finally coming around."

"I'm definitely not surprised," Travis said, amused. "Just returning the 'calling you on it' favor."

"That's fair," Summer allowed with a grateful, understanding nod. "Someone's got to keep me humble around here, right?"
