With the temperature in the store returned to normal, Vi settled in for what she assumed would be a much more normal shift.

Then while she was playing with her phone she fumble fingered the repeat video button and went to a related video instead.

Huh. She should probably go check the heater, because it was feeling kinda warm in here again.

Good thing Steph brought cold drinks! To go with the burgers and fries she'd gotten for lunch, but still.

"Whatcha watching?" she asked, coming up beside Vi to peer at the phone.

"Not entirely sure," Vi said, tilting the phone so Steph could see. "Hot though." If not quite as hypnotic as the trailer.

"Oh," Steph said as she glanced at the screen and recognized who it was, then...

"Oh my god."

The only reason she hadn't seen it yet was because she'd gotten caught up in designing maps and combat encounters for an upcoming session for the last few days, which she'd never before had reason to regret. And yet.

"Yeah," Vi said, leaning against Steph. "It's pretty...yeah."

"It's like this photo shoot was designed to come directly for us," Steph replied, a little distractedly. (Which was completely understandable in the circumstances, right?) "Damn. Like Kristen Stewart wasn't enough of a weakness for me already."

(Extremely understandable.)

"Guess we're lucky the other one's not there too." In that case what little resistance Vi had to the whole grungy dirtbag hipster vibe would've been completely shredded.

Steph snorted. "Be real. No one would survive that combo, especially not the photographer."

"You gotta point," Vi said, flicking the video back to the start. "Guess we'll just have to use our imaginations."

"Our imaginations?" Steph gave her a look of horror. "Oh shit, I don't even know how to do that!"

"Don't worry," Vi said, very very seriously and not at all laughing. "I'll talk you through it."

"My hero," Steph said, fluttering her eyelashes in a way that looked completely ridiculous, not that she cared.

Neither did the gremlin regulars. Saffron, however, was judging so hard.

"I don't even know how I'd start otherwise."

Somehow, Vi managed not to burst out laughing. Somehow.

"You're in very good hands with me," she assured her

See, now that restraint in not letting Food Human think she was that funny? That Saffron respected.

"The best hands, in fact," Steph replied, sliding an arm around her waist. "I feel very confident about saying so."

It was definitely kind of warm in here, especially seeing as she kept looking back at the video.

She was probably going to very disappointed in how Vi was nuzzling Steph's shoulder, then.

"Glad to hear it," she said. "By the time we're done, it'll be almost like she was there at the photo shoot."

Bitterly disappointed, as a matter of fact.

"Looking forward to it," Steph said, sounding slightly dazed. "Holy shit, that photo shoot could kill someone. By like spontaneous combustion."

How could Food Human do this to her?

"But what a way to go," Vi said. "Surrounded by beautiful women."

Because Food Human was the literal worst, that was how.

"As long as one of them is you, I'm completely fine with that," Steph said, leaning her head against Vi's. "Though I would prefer not to go in the first place."

"I'd also prefer that, Vi said, sliding her arms around Steph's waist, driving Saffron to despair with all this canoodling.

Steph leaned into her. "And I do like to make you happy, so win-win," she said, utterly unsympathetic to Saffron's despair.

"We do pretty well for ourselves," Vi said.

It was like they didn't care about Saffron's feelings at all.

"We try," Steph agreed. "Damn. You know, you would look pretty amazing in some of these outfits too."

Why? Why was Saffron cursed with such recalcitrant humans?

What had she done to deserve such punishment? Nothing. Nothing at all.

"That a request," Vi asked, kissing her cheek. "I'm guessing you don't mean in public."

Steph burst out laughing, which was just insult to injury when it came to Saffron's suffering.

"I mean, if you want to go out in public dressed like that I wouldn't stop you, but you might want to at least put pants on so you don't get apprehended for involuntary manslaughter or something."

Woe. Woe for Saffron.

"Yeah, gotta protect people from my killer ass."

[drumsticksandd20s]

"Facts," Steph intoned solemnly. "It takes a lot of repeated exposure to develop the ability to... survive it. I was going to say 'build up a resistance to it,' but that's actually the opposite of true. Besides, I like being the only one with that privilege."

Just... don't mind Saffron jumping up onto the shelves next to the painted display minis with a malicious glint in her eyes.
