The Magpie Emporium, Monday [4/3]

As had become common over the last few months, Vi had her phone out during a quiet period during her shift. Unlike any of those other times, she was frowning at the screen, and she had out a map and pencils as she tried to figure out distances and travel times and why even have a listing if you weren't going to have any sessions.

It was like they didn't want anyone to actually watch this movie!

Steph just managed to come back from the post office in time to catch that frowning. "Still no luck, huh?"

"This movie is supposed to come out this week, right?

That was a no, Steph.

Steph opened her mouth to reply, frowned, and shut it again while she pulled her phone out to poke at the screen.

"It -- not anywhere around here, it looks like," she said, scowling at the poor hapless phone. She punched in a few more things, scrolled for a while, then looked up with a sigh.

"How do you feel about another quick cross-country portal jaunt? 'cause otherwise..."

Vi glared at her phone one final time before coming over to hug Steph from behind and rest her chin on her shoulder. "If you're up for it, so am I."

Steph leaned back against her, still scrolling through her phone with an annoyed look on her face.

"Always down to go places with you. Damn, what's a girl gotta do to watch K. Stew and a bunch of hot ladies being gloriously queer on the big screen?"

"Rearrange our entire week apparently," Vi said dryly. "What is wrong with these places?"

"Mainstream bullshit," Steph grumbled, rolling her eyes. "Should we make a weekend of it this time? Just because we can hop a portal three thousand miles for a five hour trip doesn't mean we shouldn't take more time if we damn well feel like it."

Vi went to kiss the side of her neck. "I'm never gonna turn down spending time with you," she said. "And it can be my turn to treat my girl to a night out."

Steph grinned and reached back to ruffle her hair.

"I mean, I wasn't saying we could take advantage of the weekend to see it multiple times while we're there since it's apparently showing literally nowhere around here, but I'm not not saying it either."

"Have I mentioned lately I love how clever you are," Vi said, grinning at her.

"Yes, but I will never turn down the opportunity for extra validation," Steph said cheerfully. "We can bring a backpack, sneak in a whole bunch of our own snacks, and just chill for three or four back to back screenings... though we are buying tickets for all of them. Gotta support quality indie art."

"I am all about supporting the arts," Vi said. "Especially the kind involving hot girls."

"I am so shocked," Steph replied, letting her head fall back against Vi's shoulder. "You? Enthusiastic about anything involving hot girls? Gasp."

"I know, I'm so subtle about it," Vi said, running her fingers through Steph's hair. "You wouldn't even know."

"I would never have guessed if you didn't say so," Steph said in a completely deadpan voice. "You've never even given off the faintest vibes of being into girls or anything."

Yeah, even she couldn't manage to keep her voice from breaking with amusement at the end there.

"Yeah, I'm always going on about boys," Vi replied, equally deadpanned. "And how incredibly interesting and non-girl like they are."

"Yeah, that sounds just like you." Steph could not keep the amusement out of her voice as she grinned up at Vi. "Leaving a trail of brokenhearted, disappointed girls in your wake as you pay them no mind whatsoever."

"And it's all because of the boys," Vi said, leaning in to kiss her. "Definitely not because I've got this one girl I'm focused on."

"Oh, just one?" Steph asked, turning so she could loop her arms around Vi's neck. "That sounds unlikely. Nice though."

"Just one," Vi confirmed, hands resting on Steph's hips. "She's pretty special."

"Lucky girl," Steph replied easily, her smile softer and more genuine now. "The actual luckiest, as a matter of fact. Maybe she should try and get a nice hotel for the two of you for the weekend."

As nice as she could afford, anyway.

It was less likely to be hit by a wandering amusement park than certain nice hotels, so would be quite nice indeed.

"I'm sure I'll be properly grateful if she does."

It was nice of the school trip to keep expectations reasonable.

"A hotel room with a hot tub, if she can swing that," Steph continued, waggling her eyebrows.

Steph, no. The two of you would never leave the room.

The siren call of hot girl film was not to be underestimated.

"A hot tub you say?" Vi somehow managed not to laugh at Steph's eyebrow antics.

It was either a very good or a very bad thing that they would have to go out to the movie theater to watch it. It might be both.

"Why the hell not?" Steph asked, laughing. "It'd be a brand new experience. She shouldn't turn that down."
