"Has she let you do anything else yet?" Steph wanted to know, looking amused, as she showed up with a pair of massive roast beef sandwiches for lunch.

"Not yet," Vi said, looking up to grin at Steph, only to have a very insistent paw start batting at her chin.

"Come on, Saff, cut her some slack, the movie was... something else, holy shit," Steph wheedled, even though she knew damn well that Saffron would be having none of it, thank you. "You'd totally understand if you got to see it."

She would not. As if she cared about things that weren't Snuggle Human's full and undivided attention forever and ever.

Vi callously ignored the paw in favour of continuing to look at Steph. "She'd probably complain there wasn't enough focus on the cat."

Again, she would not. Other cats were very high up on the list of things Saffron did not care about.

"I mean, is there ever?" Steph asked, graciously unwrapping Vi's sandwich for her since she clearly had her hands full.

No. No, Food Human, there was not enough focus on the cat. Specifically this cat. Her.

"Be reasonable, Saffron, we can't take you to a movie theater. You'd yell the whole time because Vi would be paying attention to what's on the screen, 'cause that makes so much sense in a movie theater."

The obvious solution was to just not go to the movies so Snuggle Human could focus on what was important. Saffron. Obviously.

"At least the cat was all right in the end, I was worried here and there."

No, the other cat was not important at all."

"Yeah, I always get nervous about that," Steph admitted as she held a half sandwich out to Vi for a bite. "If I hadn't been trying so hard to not get spoiled for anything about it and knew ahead of time that there was a cat, I might've gone and looked it up just so I wouldn't have to worry about it."

Why were they still talking about cats that weren't her? Was it not bad enough that they'd left her to her own devices for two whole days?

"Nice looking cat though," Vi said thoughtfully as she leaned over to take a bite.

How dare? How very dare!

"I think Saff might be jealous."

"It's okay, Saffron," Steph said in a voice that was disturbingly close to a coo. "We don't love any movie cats as much as we love you."

As if she cared about anyone's love but Snuggle Human's. Pfft.

Yeah, yeah, Steph had her own sandwich but since it was the exact same thing she was just going to take the liberty of taking a bite out of Vi's because she was already holding it. "There was a lot of nice-looking on display, let's be real."

Saffron did not have to put up with this. She could shun them. Look at how she was shunning them by pressing her face into the crook of Snuggle Human's arm.

"There was," Vi agreed in a slightly dreamy voice.

She'd show them! By purring. Shut up.

"The bodybuilder chick, oh my god." Steph absolutely made a fanning-herself gesture with one hand, holding the sandwich out to Vi with the other. "Oh my god."

Surely it would come as a shock to Vi that Steph appreciated a girl with muscles.

It was the angriest of purrs!

"She was something else," Vi agreed, sounding completely shocked, for real, as she took another bite. "Totally understood the reaction to her."

Furious, in fact. Furious and indignant and not at all delighted.

"You'd think that all those times we watched the trailer the last few months would have prepared us for that, but apparently not," Steph said wryly. "I am still dead of the hotness."

How dare anyone suggest otherwise!

"I mean, I guess they couldn't really show that in the trailer," Vi said. "Otherwise you'd have died before we even made it to the theatre."

Anyone who did was a fool,that was all.

"How dare you make it sound like I'm the only one susceptible to that," Steph said mildly, and took another bite out of the sandwich. There, that'd show her, right?

Just so they were all clear, Saffron was the grumpiest of kitties, and no amount of petting would mollify her, no matter how Snuggle Human tried.

"You were looking at her like I'm looking at that sandwich." Vi leaned over to try and grab another bite before Steph devoured it all. "Pretty sure I was too."

No matter how much she purred, she was Not Satisfied. Not at all.

"You so were," Steph teased, letting her have that bite of sandwich. "And I'm not going to pretend I wasn't, because I'm right and that was the correct reaction."

They should take it as a sign of how much more attention she needed from Snuggle Human.

"They were so hot," Vi said after she finished chewing. "So hot."

And not at all as an indication of contentment, which they seemed to be doing. So disappointing, humans.

"Super hot," agreed Steph with a dreamy sigh. "Definitely had an effect on you."

As if it hadn't had just as much of one on her.

They were completely hopeless. What was a cat to do?

"Hey, who pounced who when we got back to the hotel?" It was a genuine question.

Bury her face further into Snuggle Human's arm so as to not have to look at them and despair, that was what. Again, ignore the purring.

"You did," Steph said immediately, though her expression turned uncertain as soon as she said it. Shit, maybe she had? It was kind of a blur.

And the kneading Vi's arm. It was kneading in despair. Nothing else.

"Let's just go with mutual pouncing," Vi said after a moment.

"That's fair," agreed Steph, cruelly making no note of Saffron's despair kneading. Vi might once she started using her claws though. "I'm kind of proud of how much we actually did manage to get out and do things, all things considered."

"Yeah, I had a pretty good weekend," Vi said, leaning in against her and getting an especially sharp knead for her trouble. "I mean, not that I don't usually do when I'm with you, but this one was special."

Steph kissed the side of her head and offered her another bite of the sandwich.

"Yeah, this was something we were both looking forward to for a long time, and it did not disappoint."

The like things so often do was unspoken but clearly implied.
