The Beach - Saturday Afternoon

When Connor and Cutter had woken up that morning they had been greeted with breakfast by Tabby and Teddy and after spending time with them, Teddy had wanted to go fossil hunting so they had all gone down to the beach.

“Dada, Papi do you think we will find a tribbobite?” Teddy asked hopefully, looking between his dads. Tabby was walking on the other side of Connor.

It had been a shock waking up to see Teddy and Tabby back, but a welcomed one for sure. Connor had thought about them often and at least this time around, the shock and surprise was much shorter-lived. Just meant more time they had to enjoy time together before the weekend was over.

"I'm sure we will find a lot of cool stuff. Maybe even a trilobite" Connor said as he watched Teddy run off ahead a little way and stop to pick up something from the sand. He smiled as he looked down at Tabby and gave her hand a squeeze before she let go and ran to join her brother.

“I can’t believe that we got to see them again,” Cutter smiled fondly as he watched Teddy and Tabby race along the beach to start fossil hunting. He knew that Tabby was never going to happen for him so he was thrilled that she’d turned up again with Teddy.

Connor smiled and slipped his hand into Cutter's as they made their way along the beach. He knew that there was never any guarantee they would see Teddy or Tabby again. He knew that Tabby would never be possible outside of the island gifting them these visits. And he also knew there was no guarantee Teddy would ever happen either. It just made these visits all the more special when they did happen.

"I know" he said as he gave Cutter's hand a squeeze. "It's great to have them visit again... especially now."

Cutter smiled and he returned the hand squeeze, "it is great to see them again, I wasn't sure if we were going to have them visit again but I'm glad that we can spend this time with them,"

"Dada, Papa look," Teddy exclaimed excitedly as he held up a shell, "I found something!"

"Oh let's see what you got there buddy" Connor said as he bent down to look at the shell. "Oh that is very nice looking Cowrie Shell. See how nice and smooth it is" he said, running his finger over it.

"That's a very good find Teddy," Cutter smiled as Connor went over the shell, "is there a fossil in there Papi?" Teddy asked excitedly as he felt over the shell.

"Not a fossil buddy but it is a nice shell still" Connor smiled at Teddy. "You can add it to your collection if you want."

"Okay Papi," Teddy said as he looked at his shell, "I can take it back and show Papi and Dada as well," he said happily.

Tabby meanwhile was busily digging in the sand. "Anything interesting yet Tabby?" Cutter asked.

"Nothing yet," Tabby shook her head, "mostly different shells," she admitted.

"How about we head over to the rocks? Might have more luck finding something over there" he gave a nod to the nearby rocks sitting in the water's edge. "Can find some really cool things in the tide pools at times too!"

"Let's go over to the rocks," Teddy excitedly as he began to run off in the direction of the rocks.

"Teddy slow down," Cutter called and Teddy looked a little sheepishly as he slowed down and waited for them to catch up. Tabby just shook her head at her brother but she was smiling as she stood up to join them.

"Alright" Connor said when they caught up and took Teddy's hand. "Now remember, be careful on the rocks" he said as he stepped up onto the closes one and helped Teddy up so they could look at the small tide pool there.

"Okay Papi," Teddy nodded and he peered over the tide pool, "look how pretty it is,"

"Do you think you can see anything interesting?" Cutter asked as Tabby also got a good look at the tide pool.

Connor smiled over at Cutter and sat down on the rock, setting his shoes down beside him and sat by the tide pool and held Teddy in his lap so he could see into the pool easier. "I think I saw a crab in there. Can you find him?"

Teddy leaned over the pool as far as he could go, at first he couldn't see anything and then he let out a happy squeal, "look Papi I see it," he said happily.

Cutter smiled, "that's very good Teddy, Tabby do you see anything,"

Tabby looked over and then smiled, "look, I can see a Star Fish," she said excitedly.

"Would you both like to touch the starfish?" Connor asked with a grin as he shifted Teddy off his lap so he could sit beside Cutter.

Teddy's smile was wide as he looked at Connor and Cutter, "really?" he squeaked out, "really," Cutter nodded with a smile and he reached out to touch the starfish.

A few moments later Tabby did the same and she and Teddy spent some time just patting the Starfish.

Connor slipped into the tide pool carefully, minding where he stepped. He stood and watched Teddy and Tabby for a bit, a broad grin on his face as he watched them with Cutter. He then turned around for a moment then bent down and picked up something from the pool.

"I found the crab" he said with a smile as he walked over and held out his hand showing a pretty shell. "It's a hermit crab. Be still and quiet and it'll come out of its shell."

Teddy looked over in awe as he stared at the shell, “it’s really going to come out of that?”

Cutter smiled, “it really is, you just have to wait for it and you’ll see it,” he promised.

Connor kept his hand still and soon enough the hermit crab came out and started crawling around in his hand. He held a finger up to his lips as he smiled at Teddy and Tabby not wanting them to startle it again.

Cutter smiled as he watched Teddy's eyes widen as he saw the crab come out but he also put a finger to his lips to show that he understood.

Cutter glanced over at Tabby and saw that she had an equally awed expression on her face and his smile widened as he watched Teddy and Tabby.

Connor smiled and moved his hand a little closer as the crab scurried around from one hand to the other. "Did you know hermit crabs will change out their shells for a bigger one as they grow?" he said softly as he pointed to the shiny white shell the crab had.

Teddy and Tabby shook their heads, "I didn't know," Tabby said softly as she watched in awe, "its so tiny,"

"It's so beautiful isn't it?" Cutter said as he watched the crab move on Connor's hand.

Connor held the crab for a little longer then carefully leaned over and set it down on the rocks and watched as it scurried off and into one of the crevices and out of sight.

He smiled broadly as Teddy threw his arms around him in a hug as they watched the crab scurry away. Connor looked over at Cutter and grinned as he rubbed Teddy's head fondly.

Tabby surprised Cutter then by throwing her arms around him and holding him tightly, Cutter returned the hug and smiled fondly over at Connor as he did, appreciating just how nice this moment was.

Connor smiled as he watched Tabby with Cutter and then looked down at Teddy. He knew they would never have this, the two of them, here. He knew this was something only the island could give them. But Connor was still grateful for it and especially now, now that he and Cutter were engaged, he couldn't help but wonder what their future might actually hold for them.
