Prom 2024, Community Center, Friday Evening

This year's prom theme was "A Museum Night" - the Community Center's walls were covered in replicas of beautiful paintings along with some originals that matched the general flower theme. The paintings were safe, but the frames had some glitter on them, because of course they did.

There was a variety of moddable food and drinks which currently seemed untainted, and the dance floor was open for a fabulous time!

The tunic that Graham's mother sent him for tonight had also included a new cloak, although, to be fair, the new cloak was exactly like the old cloak only now it had a fancy new red border on it! And the feather in his cap was especially sparkly tonight!

FANCY!

But fanciest of all was, of course, Triumph, who Graham had somehow managed to ride into the community center to make his arrival, grinning from ear to ear as he waved his hand in greeting to everyone, while Triumph, snout lifted proudly, trotted along in the fancy new clothes that Graham had made for him yesterday to match, which included his own cloak and a lot of other fancier details that are just going to have to be left to the imagination!

"Graham!" Unlike Eleanor and Libby, Arden felt comfortable enough to offer Graham a hug to go along with the compliments she was about to hand out. "Oh goddess, you look so good! Is that a new tunic? It's very dashing!"

"Arden!" Graham had yet to meet a hug he didn't like, and this was clearly not about to me a moment when that all changed! "Thank you! My mom made it for me!"

He took a moment, striking a few poses to show it off, including giving the cloak a little swirl over his arm to even show off the back, and then letting his cloak settle back into place with an appreciation for the heavier hem that let it swish a little bit more and beamed at her.

"She's so talented! She wanted to make sure I really looked like a true Knight Hopeful! And look at you!" He stepped back a moment, opening his arms with a gesture toward Arden's entire look excitedly. "You look fantastic! The red really pops! And it's so flowy! You look really beautiful."

And, feeling a faint bit of recollection about the Wednesday before last, a little bit of pink started to blossom on his cheeks, and he rubbed the back of his neck, the enthusiasm making way for awkwardness, but he quickly latched onto something else to talk about.

"And did you see Triumph??" he gushed, those expressive arms now making a wide gesture toward his all dressed up fancy steed, currently sniffing curiously at some of those picture frames.

Wednesday had been horrible and if everybody could forget literally everything everybody else said, that would be great, thanks.

"Thanks," she said, missing the moment of awkward by twirling a bit while the dress floated around her because she still wasn't over that, okay? It was fun to feel like a pretty princess every once in a while. "I saw it and fell in love, you know? I like bold colors. And I'm not the only one looking great in red tonight."

She poked him, right in his red tunic, below his red cloak. "You look very handsome tonight, Graham. I bet you're gonna be prom king, no problem."

It would be good practice!

"And how could I miss Triumph? Could you maybe introduce me? You know, properly. This is a formal occasion, after all."

Oh, look, now Graham's ears were red, too, and his nose probably wasn't too far behind at this rate!

"My votes on Gray, actually," he said, with a bit of a sheepish chuckle, "but thank you. I know there was this one time where we all were from the future and I was an actual king, but I'm pretty sure I'm just slated to protect them instead."

In fact, he was totally fine with that! Being a knight was his dream! Why would he ever want anything more than that?

"But yes," he then said, enthusiastically eager to jump to a different topic than his potential impending royalty, even if it was just for prom court. He then reached for Arden's hand so he could lead her over to Triumph, approaching the giant capybara with an important clearing of his throat to catch his attention. There was a short, almost startled squeak and a little jump and a huff, as Triumph turned away from the frame quickly with the air of someone who definitely wasn't thinking of trying to eat it, no, why would you even thing such a thing? And then chuffed his already-glittery snout against Graham's side and Graham chuckled, giving him a scratch behind his ears.

"Arden," he said, proudly and happily, "this, properly, is Triumph the Third, my mighty steed. And Triumph, this is Arden Finch, she's a very good friend."

Triumph's nose lifted and bobbed a little with with a sort of nod as he sniffed the air around Arden and then let out a few little grunts and squeals and seemed to trot his front hooves in place a little and Graham chuckled again.

"That means 'it's very nice to meet you, Arden!'" he translated helpfully.

"Sir Knight! I do hope you'll save me a dance this evening."

Maybe even more than one. Dancing was important Knightly training!

To Belle's compliment, Triumph lifted his chin and bobbed it along with three trumpeting chirrups and a grateful squeal, and Graham was pretty sure he didn't need to translate that, but he would anyway.

"He says thank you," he offered, then laughed a little, "and that he knows. And but of course, my dear lady!" He took a moment to sweep out his cloak and duck into a courtly bow. "I would be honored to share the dance floor with such fetching company! And your dress is so..."

Leggy!

"Blue! It looks great, Belle!"

It was a very leggy dress. Belle was working it tonight.

"Thank you, Sir Knight," she said, dipping into a curtsey. "You look quite dashing as well."

Libby still had trouble knowing what to wear to these things, so she challenged Zo to actually pick something out for her. Risky, but she trusted Zo a lot, and she half expected her to defy tradition and pick out something like a suit for her! Which would be pretty interesting!

But no, it was a gown and it was bold but also modest enough that she didn't feel too uncomfortable, and she did really like it, it just might take her a little bit to warm up to being so fancy, but once she saw everyone else, that would definitely help.

And 'live texting' with Zo for a lot of it, too!

"That is a great color on you," Arden enthused because apparently she was Drunk Girl In The Ladies' Room enthusiastic about everyone and everything tonight.

"Oh!" Libby, who thought she would stop being flustered at these things after having gone through a good handful of them finally, seemed a little surprised but no less flattered by the compliment, taking a moment to look down at the dress as if to confirm what the color actually was. "Thank you! I don't think I would have normally gone with it, but my friend back home helped me pick it out, and she had an excellent eye for color, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. And yours!" There was a gushing, wistful quality to her little sigh as she really looked Arden's over. "It's so pretty! And also a good color for you. I think?" She laughed, shaking her head a little. "I don't have a good eye for color like my friend does, but I do know you look very nice, Arden."

And that she could be confident in.

"Thank you," Arden said. "I mean, in fairness, I just kinda let Boc suggest dresses at me until we found one we both liked, so not terribly off from what you did. I just really love how light and airy it is."

And sure, that meant you could pretty much see her legs all the way up to her hips as I just noticed but she didn't think anybody was really going to notice. And even if they did, all her important bits were covered and she had nice legs anyway! So there.

Arden had mostly recovered from Dean's entire existence by the time she stepped in the community center, as the gentlest of breezes made her gown ripple slightly before settling to swish around her feet (thanks for the idea, Boc!)

"Oh whoa," she said, taking in the space. "They went all out."

Finding herself in fancy clothes would forever give Eleanor a knot in her stomach, a pain in her chest, but she went out yesterday to find a nice dress that she felt would make even Luma proud of her, and she...thought she succeeded? Clothes of this time period were pretty different from her own, but some silhouettes (both her sister and grandmere would agree!) were just timeless...

However, looking good and feeling good, in this case, were too very diametrically opposed things existing in her all at once, and a part of her just wished Arthur could see her like this...

Very eloquent, Arden. But hopefully her impressed and admiring expression would help clarify she meant it in only the very best of ways.

And while a reaction like that would cause a normal person to go and start turning a shade of red that would likely match one of their dresses, Eleanor couldn't even do blushing right, as her discolored blood rushed to her face and gave her that slightly sickly mottled green effect to her terribly pale skin that she was pretty sure would set people wondering why a dead fish was wearing such a nice dress.

"I...uh," she started to tug a it a little bit, a reminder of how it was practically fitting her like a second skin and making her want to practically just peel it and her actual skin away because it would be slightly less embarrassing to just open herself entirely and suck all of existence into the void awaiting therein. "Thanks? I wasn't sure about the color, but..." She gave Arden an awkward smile, hopeful, almost, in its attempt to be less awkward, with a nod to Arden's own dress, "looks like I'm in good company. I really like yours, as well."

She would, ironically, also feel uncomfortable in something like that, which had the reverse effect of feeling too soft and gentle for someone like her.

"Like a Greek goddess. Or a Muse."

It was true that Arden's first instinct was to ask if Eleanor was okay and if she needed help getting to the ladies' room to be sick when she blushed, but then Eleanor started talking and seemed? Fine?

Though considering all the walking into the sea, Arden had been contemplating recently, the ability to suck everyone and everything into a void seemed fuckin' aces. Time it right, and Arden would likely volunteer.

"Thanks," she said, giving Eleanor a smile. "Yours is just gorgeously sophisticated. You look like you should be walking down a red carpet somewhere."

It had not occurred to Lydia to pack more than one ball gown, nor had it occurred to her to purchase a brand new dress for a different event--well, it had occurred to her, but not as something realistic--so she was wearing the same dress she had worn to Mr. Stark's party the week before, although she had changed how she did her hair, of course.

Vi had her usual (only) black suit, shirt, and tie outfit going. Why mess with a good thing?
