Town Hall, Saturday Morning

"This," Jesse sighed, looking up at Margo with serious eyes, "Is going to mean so much paperwork."

The Magician rolled her eye, and placed her hand flat down on the desk. "Yeah, yeah, we can deal with the bureaucracy later," she said. "Well. You can. I plan to spend the rest of next week at Theodoric's."

Jesse ran her fingers along her hairline, and... reached for the microphone that connected the island-wide PA-system with the radio. She leaned in.

"Hi, Fandom? This is Jesse Faden speaking. Uh. The mayor. I know we're dealing with an invasion situation right now, and in order to fix it, we need some creative problem-solvers with good, uh, creative skills to come over to Town Hall right now, okay?"

Beat.

"Apparently we have to write our way out of this one. Or macramé. Any talent will do, honestly."

"I'm not nice as a person," Anakin said, "and we have much more important things to be doing than--" vague hand waving, "--whatever this is. Did you pull up the list?"

"Right, right," Steven said. He put his glasses back on so he could look at his mobile. Though he did mutter, "Reminding us to stay on task and save the island is a nice thing to do."

"Reminding you to stay on task is leadership," Anakin replied, peering at the phone's screen over Steven's shoulder.

"But you were nice about it," Steven said, soft enough that he would absolutely try to pretend he hadn't if Anakin called him out on it. "Oh look! Here we are. Things about armor. Let's see if they have what you were talking about in what some might point out was a helpful fashion."

Steven cleared his throat as he began to read. "Shining Armor, Adaptive Armor, Armor is Useless - er, best avoid that one I think. Also this one about 24 Hour Armor. Hopefully it won't be needed that long but best be safe, I say."

"Skip Scary Impractical Armor too," Anakin said. "Is there anything less literally armor? More offensive, less defensive?"

Steven hesitated as he had pulled up a page on weapons and was just about to tap on the listing for Defensive ones. He cleared his throat again and tried to pretend Anakin hadn't had uncanny timing with that comment. "Er - how about this one for Blunt Instruments? I've had great luck with those. Discourage people without things like bloodshed or murder."

At least no bloodshed or murder the way Steven did it. Others might have different methods.

"We're not going to discourage people from bloodshed," Anakin said. "I've given you the chicken kickline, I'm not leaving the fighters out there with only hope, armor, and a chicken kickline."

He paused. "That's possibly the stupidest sentence I've uttered in weeks."

"Wrong time of year for it anyway," Steven said, mostly to himself. He tapped a couple of options and then his face lit up. "Oh! Wordplay as weapons! I'd no idea that counted! We could give them puns!"

"Seems a rude thing to call a ball," Steven said. "But all right, all right. They can have it."

You couldn't kill someone with a... ball of dubious life choices, could you? That made it all right in Steven's estimation.
