The Magpie Emporium, Monday [20/5]

If you thought that Vi would waste any time appropriating Steph's shirt from last week's shenanigans, or would hesitate to wear said appropriated shirt to work where Steph was likely to see her in it, then you'd clearly missed the entirety of them knowing each other.

Of course, right now she was paying attention the the gremlin gaming group who were acting a lot rowdier than usual, but Little Bot's patrol of the store while waving around the Rulebook of Doom was keeping them in line. For now.

Steph ~~totally hadn't forgotten to hit post hours ago~~ was thoroughly unsurprised by this -- don't think she hadn't noticed the shirt going missing -- but that didn't stop her from sighing loudly when she showed up with a couple of massive kebab plates for lunch.

"They're in a mood today," she remarked with a nod toward the gremlins.

"Yeah," Vi agreed, side-eyeing the rowdiest of the gremlins as she reached for one of the plates. "Something's gonna give."

"Could you be less ominous?" Steph grumbled, leaning over to kiss her on the cheek. "Little Bot's pretty good about keeping them in check."

Maybe she shouldn't tempt fate like that.

Maybe she shouldn't.

"I'm not being ominous, I'm being realistic," Vi protested, turning her head to return the kiss.

"I guess you're right," Steph conceded with a sigh. "We've been disturbingly incident-free for way too long."

"Little Bot is good about keeping them out of trouble, though," Vi said, right as the lead gremlin made a lunge forward only to get bonked on the head with the rulebook.

"We're gonna have to get him a new copy soon." Steph shoveled a forkful of rice and kebab into her mouth and watched for a moment, chewing on her food and leaning against Vi. "That one's pretty beat up. Damn, he has good aim though."

Despite her own plate being more than full, Vi leaned over to steal a strip of meat off Steph's. "That's what practice will get you."

And Little Bot was definitely racking up the practice right now.

"I'll take your expert word on it." Steph's aim wasn't too bad either, at least not as far as reaching over to stab a strip of meat from Vi's plate with her fork went. "Any idea what's gotten into these guys?"

She'd heard that last whack from here, and that rulebook was no joke.

Vi made a noise like she was shocked, shocked Steph would do such a thing. Around the meat she'd stolen from Steph, yes. "If you listen to radio it seems to be a thing this week."

"I'd noticed." Don't mind Steph just... hopping up to sit on the counter with her ankles hopefully out of easy gremlin-biting range. "Not really sure why it seems to be a thing this week, though I'm also not really sure I want to know."

If Vi wasn't wearing leather boots that went most of the way to her knee, she probably would've joined her. She still might. "Yeah, I get the feeling we wouldn't like the answer."

Steph's own boots were mid-calf length today, but did you think that was stopping her from side-eyeing the gremlins?

"If the answer even makes sense," she pointed out.

Then, after a moment to take another bite of food stolen off Vi's plate:

"Hi, shirt thief."

"Let's be real, it probably won't," Vi said, then put on a look of affronted innocence. "I have no idea what you mean."

Steph reached out to grab a handful of the shirt -- and if she happened to grab a handful of Vi, too, that was completely a coincidence, really.

"That shirt just disappeared from the clean laundry basket, fell out of the sky, and somehow landed perfectly on you, then?"

Vi didn't seem too worried about that. In fact, she looked quite pleased with herself. "Yeah, that's exactly what happened, how did you guess?"

"I know you, that's how." That little tweak of Steph's thumb and forefinger? Also a complete coincidence, thank you very much. "And your track record of miraculously ending up in my clothes somehow."

There were a lot of sexy, sexy coincidences going on today.

Vi bit her lip and hooked her fingers in Steph's waistband. "And just as miraculously ending up out of them."

Steph laughed and tried to hook an ankle around Vi's waist to tug her closer.

"You look fantastic either way, for the record."

Vi put up so much resistance to being tugged in, really she did, so it was a mystery how that happened anyway. "Glad to hear it," she said. "For the record."

Well then, hopefully she wouldn't mind Steph basically draping herself all over her.

"You are a fucking miracle, by the way."

Oh, she minded a lot, you could tell by the way she leaned in closer to steal a kiss. "I wouldn't go that far."

"I would," Steph said, and nipped at her lip for emphasis. "You are one to me, anyway."

Vi hissed softly and happily. "In that case, you are too."

This was going to get them bitten by gremlins if they kept this up -- as Little Bot tried to remind them with a shrill series of beeps that distracted Steph from trying to kiss Vi again.

"Thank you," she said sincerely. "Obviously I didn't plan that, but happy to be one for you anyway."

"This might be a better conversation to have at home." Where the only thing likely to bite them was each other.

"Yeah, I guess," Steph agreed reluctantly. "Possibly while curled up on the couch, not actually watching something weird on TV?"

There would definitely be at least a little biting, yes.

Gotta make sure the gremlins knew they were off limits somehow. "Sounds pretty good to me."

Sure, that was the only reason.

Steph rested her head against Vi's shoulder and ate -- stealing bites off Vi's plate in between bites from her own -- for a few moments before sighing.

"Gonna be weird without Graham around."

Not that this fed into any other worries or anything.

The only reason at all!

Vi kissed the top of Steph's head. "Yeah, he's got a lot of presence."

What other worries could it possibly feed into? Vi ~~wouldn't~~ couldn't think of any.

"They'll be lucky to have him," Steph said absently, and her snuggling a little more insistently into Vi as she said it wasn't related to that train of thought at all! Really!

Why would it be? "Yeah, there's some people you're just lucky to have in your life."

Like Graham! Obviously!

"Totally." Steph buried her face in the side of Vi's neck for a couple of moments, just breathing in her scent. "It was a nice trip, though. Thanks for inviting me."

Not that either of them was feeling particularly clingy or anything.

Look, they just tended to touch each other a lot.

"There's no one I've have rather gone with," Vi told Steph, soft and sincere.

"And I would have missed you if you'd gone without me," Steph said huskily.

She'd also been vaguely terrified that if Vi had gone without her, she might have just... not made it back somehow.

"Why do you think I asked you along?" It certainly wasn't because Vi had worried about the exact same thing. Where would anyone get a notion like that?

Steph gave her a wry smile.

"Because it's no fun if you're not stealing the covers from me at night?"

Sure, that was the only reason.

"Hey, I share." After she'd stolen them.

"Mostly by draping yourself all over me after you've taken all the covers," Steph said as lovingly as it was possible to say such a thing.

Vi's grin was utterly, utterly shameless. "But you're so comfy."

"I am," Steph replied just as shamelessly. "Can't blame you for wanting to take advantage of that as often as possible."

Vi reached for her hand to kiss her knuckles. "How are you so amazing?"

Steph ~~who had meant to hit post hours ago~~ let her take that hand, and squeezed her fingers gently. "That's a very closely guarded secret."

"Luckily I have ways of making you talk." Sexy, sexy ways.
