Wednesday Morning - Streets around the Island

So yesterday Kamala's training schedule was focused on strength building. Today was cardio day.

Which meant running. Lots of running.

"Why are there so many stairs?" she groaned. "So. Many. Stairs."

Technically it was more of a slow jog/fast walk at this point.

Remy was very firmly not jogging.

He would insist what he was doing was not parkour, either, but that was mostly because he'd been learning to scale buildings and vault over railings well before the try-hards on the internet had started doing it.

He dropped to the pavement in full superhero landing mode a bit closer to Kamala than intended, and paused before leaping for the next fire escape.

"Bonjour, petite. Having fun?"

"Fun is not what I call it," Kamala said with a weary tone. "You have no business being this cool about doing this."

"Can't help it, petite. It's part of my mutant power."

That . . . wasn't not true. . . .

"Oh! I'm a mutant too! Well. Kind of."

Probably not by 616 terms.

Kamala began to summon her hard light platforms like steps and started running up them for showing off purposes. "My powers got activated by my Noni's bangle."

Because that's how mutants got powers.

She was canonically a mutant by 616 standards, even! She's just a mutant and an Inhuman. Because sure. Why not?

"A bangle, huh? That sounds easier than it was for me. Almost blew up my bed."

"Oh, I knocked a giant ant-man helmet prop off its body and almost smooshed a couple of people," Kamala admitted. "And sent a classmate flying on a giant version of Thor's hammer."

Because that's how all powers should be revealed. In the most dangerous and embarrassing way possible.

“That’s impressive,” Remy said. “What’s your power, then?”

"Okay, I can channel light energy from a different dimension," Kamala explained as she used her ability to embiggen her hands to demonstrate. "Which I harden and manipulate. My friend and I call it 'hard light'."

“Oh!” Remy smiled. “I have a friend who does that. Very useful, especially for training.”

Less useful when she decided to show up in your room unannounced in the middle of the night and proposition you because she’s decided she wants to know about sex. Remy was JUST mature enough not to talk about that other a teenager, though.

"Like me?!" Kamala exclaimed, looking excited. "Do they also go by Ms. Marvel?"

Remy shook his head. “Calls herself ‘Danger’.” Because she was the AI that ran Xavier’s Danger Room for ages. “You’re a Marvel, huh?”

One with, hopefully, less justified animosity towards the love of his life than his version of Carol had.

"Ooo. I like that name," Kamala replied. "And yeah, Kamala is actually a translation of Marvel. Though I'm a huge fan of Carol Danvers!"

The look on her face just saying the name says it all.

“I can see,” Remy said, careful not to laugh. “You from one of the worlds that has Avengers but no X-Men?”
