The Beach [After Work]

It was stupidly hot today and so rather than heading home after work, Steve detoured to the beach with the towel he kept in his desk for emergency beach situations. (You can take the man out of Hawai'i, but you can't take Hawai'i out of the man.)

Dropping his shirt and work pants onto the towel, Steve dove into the water wearing the swim trunks he also kept on just in case. (In Honolulu, he ended up in the water because of a case at least once a month, a trend Fandom really needed to step up on.)

He'd head out for food later, but for now, the water and the longest day of sunlight was more of a temptation.

Was that a bird? Was it a plane? No, it was Raiden, folding his wings and doing a full-speed dive into the ocean.

"Nice!" Steve called, laughing as the wave of water hit him.

"Steve!" Raiden called from where he was bobbing in the waves, blissfully oblivious to having proposed drug brunch to a cop yesterday. "Hey, buddy!"

"This is so much better than being out there not in the water," Steve declared.

"Oh, tell me about it," Raiden agreed. "I had to get away from the pizza ovens for a while, y'know?" And just fling himself into the ocean about it.

"Oh pizza ovens in the summer have to be brutal, brah," Steve said sympathetically. "Can you compensate with no cook toppings or something?"

"Not really. Those ovens put off a lot of heat. We're running the AC full blast tryin' to help but it can only do so much. Castor's gonna cry when he sees this month's electric bill, but what can ya do? We've also got a roster going for ten minute breaks in the walk-in." It was the hottest cold destination in town.

"Oh, I'd say we should get a walk-in at the station but that would be a morgue and no," Steve said.

"Well now you got me wonderin' what happens if somebody dies around here, and that's too morbid," Raiden complained, and then shook it off. "I've been trying to brainstorm cold pizzas, but it's hard. And that place that sold the pizza ice cream isn't making it any more." He sounded disappointed about that, because Raiden was...well, Raiden.

"Ice cream that looked like or tasted like pizza?" Steve checked.

[carbsliftthespirit]

"Tasted like pizza," Raiden told him. "Two great tastes!" Notice that he left off the usual second part of that phrase.

"Huh," was Steve's replied. "I think I'd be okay with one that just looked like pizza."

[carbsliftthespirit]

"You know what?" Raiden asked. The wheels were almost visibly turning in his brain. "I can probably do that. Thanks, Steve!"

"You're welcome," Steve said. "I'm happy to help."
